Would AI be any better (more likely) to pick this diagnosis error up considering how rare (less likely) the cancer condition was, since AIs are normally programmed to yield the most likely answer ? 2. Blue light emitted from computers and phones has become a concern partly because of suppressing melatonin secretion at night, but also in part because it supposedly (I don't know how good the evidence is for this) has negative effects on the eye itself. Given all this, I was surprised to read recently that apparently there is some evidence blue light inhibits myopia progression. https://search.proquest.com/openview/2b430d393996982a099bb1bdc812da2f/1?pq-origsite=gscholar&cbl=18750&diss=y Blue light has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on both myopia induction and progression in both studies involving animal models, as well as human subjects. Specifically, …

  3. I've asked the LLMs this and they've given me conflicting answers. What they all seem to agree on though is that the combination that is best for legibility isn't the best for eye strain. I'm specifically interested in what causes the least eye strain. I did a superficial Google Scholar search and there's a few studies, but they seem to focus on legibility.

  4. I was having a discussion with friend and he said a lot of medication have side effects. I’m confused of why lot of medication have side effects? Is this because medication is not target therapy? Will quantum computers, AI and super computers allow for more targeted therapy?

Ran across this on bluesky. Prevalence of allergies is a fairly recent phenomenon, following the pathogen load reduction of improved hygiene and modern medicine. It’s a discussion of how to mitigate the situation. “Evidence suggests a combination of strategies, including natural childbirth, breast feeding, increased social exposure through sport, other outdoor activities, less time spent indoors, diet and appropriate antibiotic use, may help restore the microbiome and perhaps reduce risks of allergic disease. Preventive efforts must focus on early life. The term ‘hygiene hypothesis’ must be abandoned.” https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4966430/

  7. Suggestions: Observation - The "Scottie dog" is a nickname for a shape seen in X-rays of the lumbar spine (lower back) in oblique views. It is used primarily to identify a defect in the pars interarticularis, related to a condition called spondylolysis. Spinal fusion — joining two or more vertebrae to prevent movement and reduce curvature I believe above could help alleviate their pain.

  9. I would like to say that I am opening this topic because it is tiresome to interact with the online fear-mongering about SUNLIGHT. Even when it comes to gradually exposing yourself to sunlight, the push is to instead swallow vitamin D pills. It is mostly touted in cosmetology and dermatology, and the internet is chuck full of this content aimed especially at women. Whilst it is still a good idea to apply some basic skin care as an adult, in areas with high UV radiation and not only, and especially on the face, neck, and shoulders, I feel like it's gone too far. (As, for example, overall in Europe -which isn't the best statistic for an individual person but here we go - th…

From my understanding there talking about using CRISPR-Cas9 to treat including rheumatoid arthritis (RA), inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), multiple sclerosis (MS), type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM), psoriasis, and type 1 coeliac disease. QUOTE Autoimmune diseases are disorders that destruct or disrupt the body's own tissues by its own immune system. Several studies have revealed that polymorphisms of multiple genes are involved in autoimmune diseases. Meanwhile, gene therapy has become a promising approach in autoimmune diseases, and clustered regularly interspaced palindromic repeats and CRISPR-associated protein 9 (CRISPR-Cas9) has beco…

  12. In short - one person whom I know from another forum is a long term advocate of research on gut microbiome and fecal microbiota transplantation - it's an exciting area of study that will help treat a wide variety of human diseases in the future. He's a disabled person with little financial resources and has been advocating on various science- and disease-related places on the internet for years but was met with either hostility or apathy. He would welcome any kind of help but currently, his main goal is to get as many people from the US to e-mail the Congresspeople. This is his letter to US legislators, summarizing his work: https://forum.humanmicrobiome.info/threads/the-…

Morning, My mother allegedly died this past Fri, 20th 2025, the claim is from my mother's granddaughter. Without getting into the details, in summary this granddaughter along with a health center illegally transferred my mother against her will to a hidden nursing home, and kept us separated since Feb 5th of 2024 and been in court since Mar 4th of 2024. This past Fri 20th, was the deadline for the judge and the attorney for the granddaughter to submit a response to my peremptory mandamus to the State Supreme Court. Basically being Pro Se, and much research I finally figured our how to destroyed their fraud and had them cornered like a mad dog. The fraud games the judge…

I overall understand that mammography as a whole tends to be a very intimate subject, and that the majority of people with breast cancer or female. But why are so many men avoiding it completely, or are discouraged from entering the specific area of that field? Urology is primarily male dominated, but women are encouraged to enter the field (Which I support 100%) Why not encourage men to enter radiology considering there is a shortage?

  15. Greetings. Animals do it too. From insects or skin conditions of whatever be the cause. Is there a benefit to the microorganisms on skin that cause the itching, as rising blood flow from scratching ? If it is a reaction to a chemical there is no microorganism to favor. Either from some skin condition cause or from an insect or contacting a plant; scratching produces a highly pleasant rewarding sensation. Can end damaging the skin from fingernails abrasiveness. Mosquitos, fleas... are bothersome if the 'bite' is felt but the later scratching is pleasant, no doubt.

  17. When it comes to robots and A.I technology is really progressing really fast here. Things that were scfi just 5 years ago. When comes to gene editing they are progressing really fast here, there also brain and computer interface that looks really cool and are progressing fast there. Where they still seem to be major set back is organ printing where back in 2010 it was 10 years out for simple organ printing and 20 years out for more complex printed organ.. Sadly we don’t even have printed bladder today. Stem cell research seems to really slow done where 10 years ago it was really promising. So what has happen to Stem cell research and organ printing? What is holding it bac…

  18. This CDC stat I saw recently in a news article was a bit of a shock. https://www.cdc.gov/chronicdisease/index.htm "Six in ten Americans live with at least one chronic disease, like heart disease and stroke, cancer, or diabetes." This number really doesn't line up with my own experiences, with a variety of social and work circles in five different states, so clearly I have had sampling errors and perceptual filters that led me to think that number would be lower. Either that, or the statistic presented has been tinkered with in some misleading way. (if that figure was describing, say, all adults over fifty, I would find it easier to swallow)

I have heard conflicting arguments on this. Some arguments, even ones posited by trans advocates themselves have stated that identifying as transgender is essentially just a form of individual expression, which would imply that they aren't born that way. And since there is more than enough evidence that environmental factors such as media can influence people's behavior, exposure to media or social media which promotes identifying as transgender could influence people to engage in those behaviors who otherwise would not do so. However, the other line of argumentation implies that some people are born with the inclination to identify as transgender, and that they may …
