I can only post this enquiry on this Forum, as I am pretty confused by some of the war mongering that is going on in the name of counter terrorism. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/oct/04/the-coming-war-with-iran/ Last year, I recall hearing on BBC Radio 4, UK, that it would take Iran 10 years to enrich the Uranium that they had. Within the course of a year, it seems that Iran are preparing a nuclear warhead. http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/world/2010-02/19/content_9474738.htm My question is, to the members of this Forum: how much enriched Uranium would be required for Iran to build their 'Axis of Evil' warhead? And how much would be needed for …

There are several ways we can get energy to produce our electricity. Of course, a proper solution would likely be a mixture of all the options, but please pick a favorite and explain why you like it. Oh, and don't correct me on the non-option I included; it is there as a filter.

Why is it that no matter what faith you are,or even if you are an athiist. Why when something goes wrong ,or if a loved one is near death, Why does that person or persons say: OH MY GOD, PLEASE HELP ME OR MY LOVED ONE? I think that we, or I, search for something supernatural to come to us and save our loved one. Nobody! is exempt from this. Im just trying to understand humanity

Did anyone see the recent BIS study on potential jobs today's school kids could have in 20 years time? http://www.labnews.co.uk/laboratory_article.php/5211/2/2/science-jobs-of-the-future Some of them sound pretty interesting - avatar, memory augmentation surgeon, weather modification police I think I'd give the vertical farming a go - I know the BBC reported recently on a vertical farming trial at a British zoo (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8503498.stm) and it looks quite interesting. What would you choose?

From our friends at The Onion: http://www.theonion.com/content/news/science_channel_refuses_to_dumb "At this point, having the word 'how' in a show's title is about as close to scientific investigation as we get," Myers said. "In fact, I don't even know how we can justify airing a show like Mantracker at all. A cowboy hunts contestants down using his trailing skills? I guess you could say it makes the audience use 'observation' by watching what happens on screen." "Observation is a part of science, right?" Myers added.

I recently emailed this poem to a significant other Love is like a lump of gold, Hard to get, and hard to hold. Of all the girls I've ever met, You're the one I can't forget. I do believe that God above, Created you for me to love. He chose you from all the rest, Because he knew I would love you best. Forgetting how pragmatic, scientific and atheist both she and I are, I got this back. Thank you for the plagiarized poem it is very lovely although I detect a hint of cynicism. Not least because you said God sent me and we both know God if he exists at all is too busy playing Pac Man in another dimension. So to avoid anyone one else making the same mi…

Guys just received it so prepare yourselves There is a possibility that by the end of this week, snow could be on the ground in every state. That list included Hawaii and Florida for states with snow. The fact there could be snow in Hawaii has been on many internet surfers' minds today. Arkansas Matters said that there was snow on some of the mountain tops of Hawaii. Florida is currently the only state without snow on the ground. A student of NOAA's National Severe Storms Laboratory in Oklahoma is trying to get photos of all the states with snow in it right now.

  13. I understand the difference between law and theory and why theories do not become laws. I was just curious about laws and the various stages that are included in becoming a law. What is the history of Scientific law and do we still get new laws? What are the stages of becoming a law? Thanks.

Reading some of the threads on this forum and other forums, and also following computer developments a bit, I start to wonder lately if some threads are created by really stupid people, or quite smart bots? Are the bots nearly passing the Turing test, or are people actually failing the Turing test? Especially posts later in a thread can be absolutely disastrously off topic indicating a complete failure to understand anything at all. Some posts convince me of the need of a certain intelligence (or sobriety!) check before activating an account on this forum Would that be controversial? Sooner or later, we will enter a time where computers can start spam…

  15. So, for quite a while I've been annoyed at the number of people asking "What caused God?", as if they found some really clever argument. But really, it is no more than special pleading. They way they figure seems to be that they take the rule "every event must have a cause" from the Law of Cause and Effect to mean "everything whether event or not must have a cause". Then they apply that to God, asking "what caused God?" Now, most people, I would assume, are familiar with the concept that God supposedly has always existed. Even if not, when made aware of this fact they don't drop the argument. Now something that has always existed does not need a cause, since there is …

Apparently the Obama administration is not going to fund Constellation/Ares. The moon is now out, there's no shuttle replacement, and NASA is subject to the budget freeze. America's human presence in space is slated to conclude in 2020. (They didn't quite make "... before the decade is out," eh?) There is some chatter about a new heavy-lifter a decade or more down the road. No talk at all about a manned vehicle. The only dim light on the horizon is the possibility of funding for commercial enterprises, the hope being that some private company could eventually build something that could reach the ISS. What do you all think? Couple stories worth a look: …

Certain kinds of questioning produce a result that appears to be cognitive in nature. The point from researchers appears to be not that there's no such thing as a persistent vegetative state, but that as many as 40% may be misdiagnosed. That doesn't mean they're about to get up and walk out the hospital, it just means that they may be slightly more cognitive than previously thought. These patients were still unable to speak or communicate in any way short of something that can be detected only by an ac…

This is a Yeerk, nasty creature dozens of years from Earth with their technology. They travelled here in the bodies of other aleins they enslaved. Visuals from his homeworld often leak over into my mind. I remember my first few days of slavery vividly.
