  1. In California, I have voted by mail for decades. If it was such an unreliable method, why was it allowed in many states for so many years? The criticism of voting by mail, comes from the GOP mostly, more chances of fraud happening. They believe that voters could not be identified properly as they are when they vote in person when they show their IDs. So I propose that there could be mass identification of voters which could be done quickly in the safety of your car. You drive up, show your IDs through the window, and you are issued a unique code to use when you vote at home later. That would be much more efficient than standing in line for hours, spaced 6 feet apart, and spending 10 minutes voting in person, risking getting Coronavirus.

  2. Interesting article on how using "intuitionist" mathematics might explain why time appears to flow and even unite quantum and classical theory: https://www.quantamagazine.org/does-time-really-flow-new-clues-come-from-a-century-old-approach-to-math-20200407/ Some more background here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intuitionism

  3. Reverse maths going from the end of this sentence to the beginning. i.e. 360$ is needed. Each driveway gives $18. How many driveways is needed? Then continue with the rest paying attention to units/dimensions.. "driveway" can be considered as unit/dimension as well. Did you have "cancelling units"/"dimensional analysis"/"unit analysis" on physics or eventually on chemistry lessons? https://www.google.com/search?q=cancel+of+units

  4. I’m afraid none of that appears to be correct. There doesn’t seem to be any mechanism for B to exert a force on A, and vice versa. The only thing that can apply a force on A is C. And that force would have to be on the line A-C. With a corresponding force on C in the opposite direction. If B were exerting a force on C via the fixed coupling between them then that force would have to be aligned with B-C. And then you would need an opposite force on C in the opposite direction. If the force on B comes from the magnetic field around C then that force must be tangential to that circle, and not the angle you have shown. The reaction to that would be (I think) a torque on C, which would also be transferred to A. Which would again be tangential to C; in other words vertical (as things are in the diagram). So the forces on A and B would be a long way from being in opposite directions Also, you seem to be implying that you are “manually” entering the reaction forces (in the sense of Newton’s 3rd law). But the physics engine must be able to account for these automatically or it just would not work. The only time it won’t (I assume is where you add a force that comes from something outside the system (eg if you were modelling the effect of gravity). But that implies you are not interested in what happens to that “something”.

  5. So I was right thank you, this is a non issue I think I am finally learning a little Now if I understand correctly these voids either regular or supervoid are areas in the cosmos that not many galaxies and allot of empty space. Also these areas are colder than other areas around it with more galaxies. but the coldness is not a big difference that the coldness of the universe around it.Am I correct so far. Question: are these voids newish or have they existed for a long time meaning are they forming now or have always been there?

  6. The best scientists can explain what they do to someone who is not an expert. I'm not an expert and yet I learned a lot from the folks around here. 😃

  9. The electron on the Moon versus on the Earth example at the end of the article seems suspect, as it clearly suggests that even positive numbers are zero, once they are small enough. That does not even agree with intuitionist mathematics. Anyway, it comes down to formalism what it all means. If limits are not defined, how is the momentum of a particle represented? Similarly how about forces and work? There is not much hint of that in the article, so I suppose it is necessary to look up the actual research papers. Oh, and before I forget again. "Constructivist mathematics" has a different view of reality than the scientific view. By saying that an object only "exists" if it can be constructed. A zoologist should be well able to define "a cat", even without demonstrating the ability to construct a cat. In practice, similarly as in ordinary non-constructivist mathematics, it is enough to have the ability to identify whether an object that gets presented is in fact a cat or not.

  10. And yet the moment you cast out labels like “left” and “right” you immediately bifurcate the world into a forced and unrepresentative binary “either/or” state in your mind. There is no spectrum or color, just black and white; hit and cold; us and them. Instead of simply recognizing our shared uniqueness, our commonality from personal difference (everyone you ever meet will know things which you do not), you presume to know all you need to know about the individual human based on a one-dimensional label. You may as well be describing everyone based on the shape of their skull like the idiot phrenologists of old, and I know you well enough by now to acknowledge that’s not who you are at your core.

  11. Yes indeed. And can we talk about a level of viral load and this in the air? Then we just need to know the threshold of the number of copies per millilitre to be infected. Or rather the number of copies inhaled per liter of air.

  12. Yes. It can be suspended in the air and you can inhale it. I'm sure it can carry further than 13 feet. The question is at what level, and what level does it take to "catch" it. My take right now is that if you follow the intent of the guidelines, you have done your part to flatten the curve. This won't guarantee you won't get it though, so if you are at risk health or age wise you should do more...up to complete isolation if you feel it's necessary.

  14. Voting by mail could be made more safer (i.e. harder to fraud) by splitting ballot paper to two parts. One part remains at hand of voter, second one is sent back to government. Everybody should make photography ("selfie") of their ballot paper after making check mark at the right places (the same on the both), but prior splitting them. This way it will be possible to verify whether election has been compromised after the fact. Obviously election committees counting votes must be made of members from the all parties and foreign independent watchers. Each committee member must count the all votes from his or her region (couple hundred to couple thousands). Results from the all election committee members must match. Then they release it to public by Internet and media takes care of the rest. Without special precautions voting by mail can be easily compromised. ps. I am generally advising voters to make selfie together with their ballot paper. Regardless if it is voting by mail or traditional.
