  1. You need to read this more carefully - it allows to determine position and momentum of the LIGO mirrors, which is a macroscopic and classical system. This does not work with quantum systems, since non-commuting observables are inherent in the very nature of such systems, and not due to measurement limitations. In fact, it is that very non-classicality which allows entanglement relationships in the first place.

  2. "It was a big sick. a very very big sick. Doctors, specialists in the field and I'm talking about the very best, said anyone else would have died and died quickly. They were amazed how quickly I got over it. Very amazed."

  3. This is the JOKES thread so I won't take this more off topic, but if you wish to think critically, you shouldn't assume I am not a millionaire, that I claimed to be a millionaire, or that I am probably a liar. In other words, DON'T ASSUME.

  7. Paradoxically, it might help him. If he dies, more moderate Republicans planning right now to vote for Biden might come back home to the "replacement" Republican nominee. The RNC would have to choose a replacement candidate, but it's already too late to change ballots (also since voting has already begun in many states). The decision would be left to the electors of the electoral college in states where Trump won to pass those votes to the replacement chosen by the RNC or pass them to someone else. Nothing legally prevents them from deciding for themselves who to push votes to, but they would likely align behind the RNC choice. Pence would assume power at least until inauguration day January 17 This is very on-brand for 2020. I'm also not at all comfortable with the level of schadenfreude I'm feeling.

  9. It's complicated and uncertain. More likely is the electors in the electoral college will just decide who should replace him and transfer the votes he received over to this other person. It's a messy new variable further muddying the waters in an already messy election. One thing that's almost certain to happen is a lot more arguing and more needless violence and chaos. The markets won't be happy, but our adversaries will be. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/10/02/were-final-stages-presidential-election-what-happens-if-candidate-withdraws-or-dies/

  10. Am I the only one bothered by the question? Believe in religion? Of course religions exist. No belief required. We have evidence of it. I "believe" the question is trying to explore something else entirely, but lacks the type of specificity we require in science.

  11. No, no and no again. From FOR of the Earth there is no length contraction, but only time dilation on the clock of T From FOR of T, there is only length contraction of the distance Earth -> X, but no time dilation on his own clock The end result is the same: Earth and T agree that at the moment of arrival of T at X , the clock of T shows 45 minutes triptime. Trip time calculation of T: distance x gamma /speed = 60Lm x 0.6 / 0.8 = 45 minutes Trip time seen by Earth according Earth's clock: 60 Lm / 0.8 = 75 minutes. But during the trip, Earth sees the clock running slow according the same factor of 0.6: So, trip time as Earth can calculate for T: distance (60LM / 0.8) x 0.6 = 45 Minutes. And this is also what Earth sees on T's clock when it arrives at X.

  13. A great answer +1 I'd just add, it also corrupts one's abillity to be content; imagine only being happy when one is proven better than other's, in a field of 7 billion other's?

  14. It corrupts knowledge for obvious reasons. Taking a one-sided (non-objective) view of facts can only lead to misconceptions. As a consequence, it also corrupts the ethics of societies. Example: The banking-system's ethos: We want to take full advantage of predictable fluctuations in the market that are invisible to the general public, while taking full advantage of the general public when fluctuations become unpredictable --by taxing them to cover for our losses. We hide the flaws and shortcuts of such system behind a thick layer of red-tape, legalese, and marketing lingo. The more analytically intricate the system of concepts is, the higher the risk for pitfalls, both ethically and conceptually.

  16. You are mixing up two things; - in Earth's and X's FOR the distance between them simply does not change because some spaceship happens to travel from Earth to X. - However, T is moving in this FOR, and so its spaceship and everything on board is length contracted. Apply md65536's criteria: is it moving? no --> no length contraction (the distance between Earth and X is not moving!) yes --> that what is moving is length contracted (and time dilated) I would say: for the traveler the distance between Earth and X is length contracted. Just as the shadow of an object can be shorter as the object itself: it really is shorter. (a shadow is a projection of the object on the horizontal plane). Maybe (maybe...) it helps to see it that way. Two different inertial frames have different projections of events (and distances between events) on their respective time and space axes. But the observers agree on 'the real length' between two events , i.e. the distance as defined in Minkowskian spacetime.

  19. It’s probably better to view them as opportunistic. Host availability and predictability matter more than just about anything else. They’re also generalists when it comes to global populations, but specialists when it comes to local or regional populations. They’ll bite just about anything, but are better at biting certain things based on their local environment. It seems they’re pretty sensitive to temperature and humidity, and likely respond to chemical signals and similar hormone related outputs bodies generate. I cannot comment on its validity or modernity, but this overview seems comprehensive: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3790072/

  20. ! Moderator Note John2020, I would suggest you go back through the thread and pay close attention. You've had three pages of objections and problems with your device that haven't been addressed adequately for the Speculations section. You need to support your ideas with evidence, and address the reasonable objections you're getting. The people involved are only trying to help, but you seem more interested in teaching something wrong than in learning something right. I hid your last post with the links to past experiments, since it was completely off-topic. If you're going to swim against the mainstream, you need to be more rigorous. Thread closed.

  22. I looked at the article and it concludes (rather bizarrely) that every extinct hominid of the genus Homo was modern man and every other hominid genus was simian. That means, they are claiming that Homo Erectus was actually Homo Sapiens. See what there trying to do? Homo Erectus did not evolve into modern man he was modern man, therefore no evolution was required. The exact path from Australopithecus to Homo is not clear, so they say nope, no evolution, it never happened, they are just extinct simians end of story. Just for fun the article also stated that 'Darwinism' was the cause of: 1. WW1 2. WW2 3. Communism 4. Destruction of the education system 5. Legal abortions 6. A culture of death (whatever that means?) 7. Bad judges 8. Attacks on the family They conclude that 'Darwinism' is the worst thing to happen to mankind since Adam and Eve got kicked out of the garden. Yikes! That's pretty bad!

  23. It depends on what's being kept constant. If I happen to have some cable rated for 10 amps and 1100 V I can use it to wire up a 200V 2KW heater because the current is still only 10A. But, if I was buying cable for that job, I would choose cable rated for 200V at 10A- because it would be cheaper. Still better to check with an electrician.

  24. I have no much problem with all of that. You wrote: So what about what I wrote: In the twins paradox, that is exactly what happens: it is argued that, as seen from Earth, the twin traveled 1LH in 45 minutes. So the traveling twin is younger than his brother. There is a mistake somewhere.
