  1. This isn’t a “make up any stupid thing you want” forum or “argue in bad faith” forum. It’s a science forum. This site also attracts many highly intelligent people. Some individuals feel intimidated and insecure in these environments because it shines a bright burning light on their own flaws and limitations so leave. I look at it like this... if I want to get good at tennis, I could play against a bunch of kindergartners and feel really good about all the winning I’m doing, or I could play against the best in the world getting my ass kicked every time and come away a FAR better player than when I started.

  2. Same that will happen to all the other workers. I don't know what the answer is to the looming crisis is, but the crisis is coming.

  4. I prefer not-popular forum sites with few well educated members than 'popular' sites pushing to social characteristics discussing garbage. So, thank you for not making this forum popular crowded to your taste.

  5. Correcting your misconceptions isn’t meant as an insult, even though there are some that interpret it that way. As for the rest, consider it societal pressure to improve your contributions. In a setting like this, when you repeatedly overstep your limit of competence, which requires correction, it is considered poor form. Further, you are doing so with unjustified confidence. Basically you’re decrying brusque behavior that’s a response to your own rude behavior.

  6. I agree. I also agree that the battery university is a reliable site. Markus you also need to know that charging techniques are different for different types of battery. So I'm glad you mentioned Lithium-Ion. The practice of taking discharging the battery pretty fully before recharge and even taking it down to deep discharge occasionally applies to old fashioned accumulators- lead acid batteries and also to NiCads. More recent Nickel - metal hydride batteries can be safely recharged at any state of charge without detriment and can also sustain quite high rates of recharge, such as would destroy the Nicads that preceded them. More modern are the lithium ion technologies which are implemented in several ways. In particular the low current drain 'polymer' batteries are very sensitive to abuse as the charge is spread out over a large area on a very thin film. This can easily be punctured by heat or excessively fast or just excessive charging or discharging. For your digital device these are most likely to be the types meant. Power tool Li-ion batteries have a different 3D construction and are more robust so can be fast charged and supply high currents (fast discharge). So use the correct charger or charge lead if USB powered and keep within String Junkie's limits.

  7. Hi Markus. The Battery University site is the place to look. Practical strategy. Try and keep your battery above 20% before recharging, so use no more than 80% of the battery if possible. Topping up everyday is much kinder than fully discharging until the device switches off. Never leave your battery empty for significant amounts of time....like days. The battery's safe voltage range is 3.2v to 4.2v. A lot of devices will switch off by default at around 3.2v. This saves some residual charge to keep the battery in safe condition. The 'ideal' range is to keep it between 20-90% charged. Most devices don't actually charge to 100%... overcharging is problematic from a safety point of view, If you use the device everyday, charge at the end of the day or after use. Regular discharging to exhaustion really shortens the battery life. Bear in mind practical realities will dictate that you will run it it down now and again to off... you can't avoid it. I get about 2-3 years of everyday use before I think the maximum charge capacity has fallen by half. If battery life matters, don't use quick charging and don't use the device straight after charging, if possible. These are things to aim for but life dictates otherwise sometimes. Avoiding excessive discharge and heat are the main things. To summarize: daily charging is much better for battery life and safety than running flat then charging. Long term device storage when not in use wants to be around 50% filled.

  10. Write a paper and submit it to a respected medical journal. I don't believe that is what the FDA does. Their job is to review developed drugs for safety and efficacy.

  11. If you use the quote function on this forum it will be easier to understand what you mean. Imagine some other member wanting to participate and trying to I did not forget, I choose to not to include any examples. It is not clear what kind of examples that would be appropriate and that would allow for fruitful discussions. I get from the questions in your reply that you did not seem to understand my comments. No problem, I'll try another approach: What is your purpose and the ambitions with the code and questions? A: Is your goal is to understand the basics of a Markov chain and generate random texts with a simple program for personal use*? or B: Do you intend to actually use the program in a production environment where users will expect useful responses and help to solve real tasks? (Or some other goal? A and B are examples) Reason for asking: The examples I have in mind depend heavily on what the goal is, A, B or something else. *) like a homework.

  12. When my mother was near the end of her life she emotionally suffered whenever any of her kids or grandkids experienced any setbacks. We instituted a policy, at my urging, that we lie like crazy to my mom. David got into graduate school. Mary's debt was forgiven. I got that promotion. I've never been happier about a decision to lie in my life. For the most part I believe that people should be told the truth, but I'm sure there are dozens of exceptions depending on the circumstances.

  13. I think his intention is to get neutrons close enough together, as opposed to protons which have coulombic potential to overcome, such that when they decay, the resultant protons are close enough already to fuse. Not sure if neutrons in such close proximity are not equivalent to a bound state ( if at all possible ), in which case there would be no decay.

  14. Not the full answers you are looking for, But I remember a talk given by a a geologist of his trip to a recent (under 10 year old) volcanic island and the teams excitement at finding the 1st plant. Much fuss and conjecture trying unsuccessfully to identify the species . One of researchers wives solved it. It turned out to be a tomato plant growing out of the excrement of one the research team. Bird/sea mammal droppings, and ocean borne seeds and weed (coconuts etc) combine to start the process.

  15. Humans find patterns everywhere, even when there’s no legitimate pattern there. Seeing a face on the moon or a connection between eating bananas and smelly socks. You’re right to question whether your observations are valid. They’re probably not. You’re probably missing deeper and more important patterns, like the number of times an officer stopped and frisked them, or how many times fine people like you forgot to notice the good in them. Humans are also a bit random. You could notice the exact same pattern 10 times in 10 different people and get 10 different results. Just try always to find the humanity in others. Sometimes you’ll be let down, but rather often you’ll be pleasantly surprised. We kinda see what we’re looking for, so try looking for the good.

  16. It kind of reminds me of bodybuilding forums, the losing fat section, people come in with ideas of fat loss and how they think things are when it comes to weight loss. People usually are told to read the stickies or to simply go on a calorie deficit diet, all diets work by making you eat less than the amount of calories you burn. So with here people come in with ideas of science and how it works but people are usually told how to do stuff properly with common science methods etc... maybe that is one reason why these forums isn't as popular as other because people can't express their ideas without being corrected. Edit: Also, no offence, kind of seems like pointless arguing as well at time, like "you said this when I didn't say that" or someone says some weird word like "apriori" and then means other guy is wrong, it's like people get lost in boring arguments that lead nowhere. But maybe that is science!

  17. You're a mere person. Why should I care what you think of me? I'm here to say what I see in nature. I include science as one very useful angle into nature. You have a right to exalt it as high as like.

  19. I have 2 years working with plants, soil and minerals from the woods; that is, with my hands. I've seen the work that nature does converting organic stuff to compost, to hummus to soil. In addition I've reviewed other people's more conventional ways. I don't read scientific discussions as a basis but as a fresh look. The more views I have into the actual nature the better my next, "aha" experience. Call it what you want. You people are willing to insult me because you despise what isn't serviceable to, your, money economy. I despise money. I treasure the created order.

  20. Psh, everyone is off-topic in this thread. Opened it up thinking I was going to get to discuss Hume, no takers. Everyone just wants to pile onto the 'crazy' person and ignore absolutely everything said in the OP like it just doesn't fucking matter at all. So what is the hole in my argument? You might as well just say what it is since no one is on topic here. So is anyone going to even try to stay on topic or address any of the OP seriously? Cuz it seems to me like it's just becoming a thread where people pile onto me, call me bitchy, tell me to write less, infer that I can't read etc. It's fucking sick. Just talk about the fucking subject matter I am sick to fucking death of having conversations where people seem to judge me for having fucking feelings. Just everyone fuck off if you're not going to read the OP and stop using me as your bully boy target. Just picking on disabled people at this point.
