  1. I think you put too much emphasis on labels, and trying to characterize people according to those labels. People don't live their lives according to one specific philosophy, rather, they pick and choose differing philosophies to apply to different aspects of their lives.

  2. It should also be mentioned that the spacetime interval of Special Relativity is a crucial building block of quantum field theory. You couldn’t have the Standard Model without SR.

  3. I think SJ is correct. Looks like the locking nut for an old casement window.

  4. The raised section the threaded part stands on suggests it fits snugly into the same size groove. Maybe a sliding locking nut.

  5. The distance variable is part of the Schrödinger equation and solution for e.g. hydrogen; the radial wave function has “r” in it. While position isn’t well-defined owing to the wave nature on this scale, distance still matters.

  6. Now, here is the final correct answer provided to me by one great expert mathematician from UK (United Kingdom). That's it.

  7. If koti points out the proper spelling of his name to you, yet you insist on capitalizing it and using a y at the end instead of an i for reasons of your own, and continue to do so in spite of his pleas to get it right, I think you're not only being discourteous, you might have some bigoted reason for not using his preferred spelling. After a while, it might seem like you were being purposely disrespectful and had some insulting reason for doing it.

  8. But this has nothing to do with optics - you can send any kind of quantum object through the apparatus (with the appropriate components), and get the same behaviour. The outcome isn’t specific to photons/light - the outcome is in fact totally independent of the type of quantum object used.

  9. Fundamentally, the world is quantum, irrespective of the size of the system you are looking at. The problem is just that superposition of states can persist only as long as no observation takes place, which means as long as the system does not interact with its environment (‘decoherence’). And the larger the size of a system, the harder it is to keep it isolated, and thus the more rapidly it decoheres. That’s the only reason why you never see quantum effects in the macroscopic world. There is no sharp ontological boundary between quantum and classical - the distinction is a relational one.

  10. As the economist EF Schumacher noted, "Growth is the philosophy of a cancer cell. " And there are others in that field looking at how some form of capitalism might harmonize with a society of dropping population. It's been pointed out that such a society would have full employment and labor would be more valued since a smaller percent of the population would be of working age. Wages would rise for those of lowest income, especially, and I suspect employers would offer more attractive benefits and conditions.

  11. I was hoping we could have a friendly discussion. I do agree with you that science changes as new discovers are made. I also like science and follow it closely. It has help make our lives better in many areas. I also agree that my NDE is totally subjective. But there are others that are not. Some have been verified by doctors in attendance when it happened. I will not go further now, the environment seems a little tense. But if someone is interested we can discuss some verified NDEs.

  12. You can label it Political Correctness, or whatever you wish. The fact is that our Western societies are now almost at a point where the individual right nt to be offended, trumps society's right to free speech. And where your own personal, subjective reality can be forced, under threat of law, on the rest of society. If it was someone in authority doing this to society, you would all label him a despot, or dictator, or fascist. When it is anyone with a gripe against the rest of society, or a pretentious, virtue signalling university student, who has no clue what being underpriviliged really is, you guys all stand and cheer, while disparaging those who stand up against the nonsense, claiming they are out of their area of expertise, or just in it for popularity and money. You guys need to give your collective heads a shake !

  13. You have no means of measuring that so you either have to comply with my ridiculous request or face consequences of not adhering to your own rules. I got it from iNow from this thread. And I agree that we're done. I was not refering to me leaving the site, I was refering to this site eventually leaving the internet if things keep going the curent direction. It’s really astonishing how far away we are on simple concepts.

  14. Lol alright Let me tell you something swansont, before you close the thread for no reason. You are one of the worst thinkers I've encountered. I've seen you're pretty active on this forum, but all your comments are basically condemning threads for arbitrary reasons which justifies you closing them. You rarely, if ever, offer any intelligent or creative thoughts to a discussion. You seem to enjoy wielding your mod power more than having proper scientific discourse. Shameful. Scienceforums.net would be a better place without you, sadly. You have no idea how to moderate, and thus the forum suffers from your incompetence. Thanks for nothing dork I have quoted the necessary passages, and have also written my own definition and explanation of energy rate density as the complexity metric. Multiple times. I was asked for a source. I presented a source. Then I'm told I can't rely on the source for my definitions. What? As far as your above description, that is simply one perspective if the universe. Another scientifically valid perspective is complexification, which is easily observed, has been defined many times and a metric for measuring it given. You even doubted that one of the excerpts was even from the cited article! What the fuck bro, am I lying or something. You could've confirmed it in 2 seconds, but you couldn't even do that much.

  15. Horseshit. Also Arete, @hypervalent_iodine - SFN is becoming unbearable due to increased amounts of adds. Literally half of my iphone is flooded with google adds crap when I launch SFN on my phone. It's either go back to Science or bye bye for this politically and ideology driven site.
