  1. OK, so as someone on the other side I can tell you that while we do all that, it is a burden on us and one that many of us feel unnecessary. Why should we be required to do the extra work just to earn the same level of respect that others get for free? I mean, of course it is a waste of time since every time you resolved an issue, another pops up. And if you address it too frequently, your are considered the one being disruptive. So we keep our heads down, don't complain too much if folks keep misspelling our name just to remain in folks' good graces. That being said, as it turns out that this attitude can hurt you in positions with higher visibility. For example, I did not mind too much about misspelling my name or that folks for some reasons keep forgetting to put my PhD to my name (but interestingly remembered for everyone else). However it resulted in folks thinking that a fresh postdoc was the project lead, for example or that my name ended up not appearing in press releases in time. I mean, especially in hindsight it is very clear why that happened, but in the past, who would dare to voice it? The way folks reacted when asking folks to do simple things like check spelling before sending things out (or give me a copy so that I could check) was almost asking them for a kidney or two. It was a bit refreshing that in countries USA or Canada folks actually apologized for misspelling your name, so I actually liked that blast of PC (which, again to me is just a basic level of mutual respect). Sure, you can characterize that as whining, if you want, but to me it is not having yet to deal with another thing on my plate. There is now a growing body of literature showing that the cumulation of this small things are adding to measurable levels of stress on the molecular level, so it is not just performance, it is something with an actual health impact. Now going back to sexual minorities, that effect has been found to be rather profound and one good summary can be found here: https://www.apa.org/pi/aids/resources/exchange/2012/04/minority-stress

  3. snip Project West Ford, the artificial ring, was lot more outrageous IMO. In terms of numbers US and Russia have both contributed considerably more junk in general.

  6. It's in the nature of space junk that it has the capacity to kill astronauts, whether they be Chinese, European or American, so what the Chinese did with that weapons test I thought was outrageous. Phi, I chose my words carefully in that post, and I think the way you twisted them was nasty and unwarranted, and quite cowardly, to phrase it as a question. There was nothing in my post to indicate what you suggested. That came out of your own head. To point to irony in no way suggests a wish for it to happen. Nor to satisfaction if the worst happens. If I bought a gun for self protection, and accidentally shot myself with it, I would call that ironic. It doesn't mean I would be pleased about it.

  7. And I think I don't "need" to be a bit more anything, this could be your opinion and as you stated "opinions are like buttholes..." I think in the cases I'm considering the vast majority of people (other than the extremists) would also consider the behaviour to be ridiculous. But, times are changing and I accept that moral standards and what is deemed acceptable changes with it, however - My personal stance is, I try to be courteous and considerate as and when possible, but if I get called out for something that in my "opinion" is ridiculous then I'm not going to back down just to be more "PC". I won't repeatedly intend to continue to offend someone, I will accept that we share different opinions and feelings so respectfully decline from further communication or discussions on the subject. But I won't accept that I should change my view to fit in or be accepted by someone just because the risk of offending them. All I'm saying is, where does it all end? When does it get to the stage where people are in fear of making any comment at risk of being branded offensive or a bigot? But life is unfair and tough, over sensitivity can breed weakness in people. A weakness to face up to hardships, facts and deal with issues, instead burying their heads in the sand then complaining that someone else should fix it. Like all good things moderation and balance is required. Tough love is often as productive as soft love (for want of a better term) The right balance between them is the key to success. I don't have names that you would be familiar with, my point was drawn from my own experience interacting with people within my community. I can give you an example. The company I work for produce a particular product, the product is designed to appeal to gender, age, genre... we had a large group of visitors come and as a gesture the company decided to have one product made for each member of the group. Our sales director ordered a quantity of pink hearts design and a quantity of blue star design. This in his mind was to satisfy the ladies and the men . He was called out on this for discrimination, and described as a sexist bigot by some colleagues. He re-considered his actions and decide that the easiest solution was to just offer the neutral design which is non gender specific. Now you may ask, why weren't the people offered the choice, I asked this, and at the time the gesture was meant to be a surprise gift, so asking them to choose was not an option. He realised that in the modern PC world sending the neutral design was the most appropriate thing to do. He had made an honest and reasonable mistake with a considerate original intention. Yet he is now labelled as a sexist bigot. That's just not true, On the contrary, in my experience it tends to be the middle class, white, normally abled, often privileged people who get "oversensitive" sometimes on matters that don't even concern them or affect them directly. I have a couple of friends who are from an Asian ethnic poor minority, living in a white majority area, who do experience racism and deal with it admirably without getting oversensitive.

  8. When it comes to biology, strong desires to do things often aren't sufficient, and you likely have to accept that. YOU: Hi everyone! I want your honest opinions. US: Okay, this is what I think. YOU: No, that's not the opinion I want!!

  10. Wouldn't it have been an awful irony, if their craft had been wrecked by some of the space-junk that China created by blowing up a sattelite in a weapons test a few years ago?

  11. Inactive SRY gene kills testes creation But no 2nd X chromosome prevents ovaries from creating This was my takeaway from a YouTube video Now my question is how can I create the 2nd X in XX chromosome?

  12. As I write this I researched on coronavirus. The MRNA is genetic material that makes the coronavirus multiply inside the infected one. Now I wonder if this MRNA can be used to shut off SRY gene and to start multiplying XX chromosomes? What do you think about my Theoretical Idea?

  13. I have a belief that changing DNA can alter organ production. For example if I replace the Y in XY with a X to equal XX; the long term result will be the former XY person growing female organs. Did I get it on point? Looking forward to your replies.

  15. Please don’t make me upset more than what I already am. It’s my life my decision. I came here to get insight. Not to argue. I have strong desire to be a biological mother. People have to accept that. I am what I want to be. Not what others tell me to be.

  16. Well his pronouns were correct as his genetics by science are xy and since science is how we define sex unlike popular fads of trying to rename a documented and confirmed nomenclature like male and female . I know you (sorry I forgot to bow down to the new use of pronouns ....yes you is a bad word....uh what is it now? Thing ...yes thing )....thing will probably meltdown on this but its for your own good . Sir or young man thing or whatever either way. Identifying and being a woman are two different things entirely . Fate has made him male . at least at his very very core. And that he cannot get rid of (im minding scientific pronouns btw). At least not currently and maybe not for another 50 years as the technology just isnt here to change himself at least on at the cellular level to be anything other than male. Which he is. Its not his fault or yours you are male or female or something else . he was watching his pronouns. He is probably a scientist and a scientist is going to use the nomenclature of science which is he is male .....not female ....not male who identifies with a woman or a duck or cow or dolphin .... but a male...thats your and his problem not any other scientist . this may break your ideas but its for your own good. Want to birth a baby and youre made a male by fate? I suggest virtual reality for you bc there you can be a cheese sandwich and fly fighter jets for even the moon!!!! Can you just imagine!!! You could be the first fighter pilot cheese sandwich in the whole wide solar system and fight all the science minded people of earth in your labeling war and once you ve defeated all the people of earth you can enslave them and make them silent to the use of their silly science words that remark of sexual polarity and have every species a cheese sandwich too no matter how different they are ...and the world will be happy under autocratic rule of the cheese sandwich king ....oh right i forgot cheese sandwich doesn't have a sex ...so the cheese sandwich ruler of all time .....bow down to the cheese sandwich all of us science fools before its too late !!!!!
