Thanks, that's helpful. Suggests that archaea are being overlooked less than previously. From an evolutionary point of view, an organism with no volition (caveat on motile bacteria and Archaea) can't help but profit from an opportunity presented. Whilst Archaea are an ancient kingdom, they have stumbled (or the motile ones tumbled) upon recent opportunities such as the gut of humans. A recent study on Koreans. I'm frankly staggered at the abundance and variety. Opportunity for symbiont, parasite and pathogen.1 point

David Kipping (the astronomer in the videos) has published a paper on this: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1806.08033.pdf I managed to watch the second video. Having the paper available helps with following the video. In his concluding remarks, he seems to agree a second data point would be handy. Actually the video was also good for improving my understanding of Bayesian analysis. So thanks, mistermack!1 point

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."1 point

Are you being purposely obtuse? I didn't ask if there was a Big Bang. I asked "What do you mean when you say "at the beginning"?" Praise the Lord! 😇1 point

There's a few non-mutually exclusive hypotheses regarding the evolutionary origins of viruses. The "virus-first" hypothesis posits that virus evolution occurred on parallel with cellular life. If that were the case then yes, virus origins, or at least some virus origins may well be separate from cellular life. Also note, many viruses are not terrestrial. If all humans are descended from Adam and Eve, how come a French woman has never given birth to a Singaporean? If you're related to your cousins, how come one of them has never given birth to your child? Common ancestry doesn't infer that organisms will spontaneously change into fundamentally different organisms. In fact if a bacterium woke up one day and discovered it had divided into a bacteria and an elephant, it would completely contradict contemporary evolutionary theory. I often wonder what would happen if fundamentalists ever gained the self awareness to realize how counterproductive and hypocritical being petulant and condescending on the internet is.1 point

Then how do you explain the fact that an elected official was able to unilaterally make that decision? If they "don't get to" then surely it either wouldn't have happened or will be overturned. Is a reversal in the works? First of all, no one held Novak down and injected a vaccine into him. That still remains his choice. Secondly, health choices that can impact the health of others are very much in the purview of government. Your individual rights do not allow you to do me harm. That is what most laws are all about. Fear mongering and continuum fallacy. I choose not to go down this path with you. Hardly a straw man. YOU claimed there was no legal basis for the decision. YOU claimed there was no rational basis for keeping unvaccinated people out of the country. The former requires a law against it (please provide support since you are claiming what was done was illegal). The latter is only true if vaccines don't work. If they do work, then there is a rational basis for reducing the number of unvaccinated people in Australia.1 point

I look much worse when I just wake up. You gotta love lions and lionesses. Wild animals have it very hard. Even a humble magpie. None of us would wanna trade deals with them. Cheers mate! And thanks for the wonderful photos and info.1 point

The vaccines all seem to reduce transmission by 40-60% https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2116597 https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/nejmc21077171 point

Higher than it was six months ago but not higher than it could be. My point is that the percentage could be higher than it is now, and that would be better for the public. Of course. What is your point with making that observation though? Yes, that's inconsistent. I've never seen any country that treated its citizens in exactly the same way as they treat their visitors. Why do you think they should? Those who are vaccinated spread the virus less than those who are not vaccinated. You make it sound like they don't.1 point

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Naslaa https://www.quora.com/ The Al Naslaa rock formation is a rock formation located 50 km south of the Tayma oasis in Saudi Arabia. It has been split down the middle into two parts, both of which are balanced on small pedestals.[1] The cause of the split is unknown, but is posited to be due to natural causes including windblown sand and periodic rain.[2] The rock is approximately 6 metres high and 9 metres wide, and is covered on its south-east face with numerous petroglyphs https://www.quora.com/ That male lions have this amazing life where they don’t hunt and get easy meals. They often get portrayed as freeloaders who occasionally patrol the territory. So for example, this is a rare sighting of five male lions drinking water together: They are brothers and were part of the Mapogo coalition. They ruled for an unusually long time, nearly a decade. Most males that survive to adulthood only rule a pride for two years. The Mapogo coalition fathered many many cubs. They also brutally killed more than 100 other lions, mostly males, and cubs. This behavior isn’t uncommon. Everything eventually came full circle. Each of them eventually died a terrible death at the hands of other males. It was brutal, prolonged gang-up-style violence by a group of six brothers who then came and took over. Deaths usually took hours, with bursts of biting and scratching the chosen maimed lion. This is an extremely common cause of death for males. Lions are very brave and majestic, and people get excited just by the mere topic and sight of them. Rightfully so. But they aren’t particularly bright or gentle animals. The line between bravery and stupidity is razor-thin and it often gets males killed, charging into enemy territory, trying to fight three other males at once. They don’t stick together when it is obviously safer to do so. They take on high-risk prey and blow out their knee, sentencing themself to starvation. Do females do most of the hunting? Yes. But being born a female lion is a way better deal. They live longer and don’t have to deal with nearly as much intraspecies violence. Given a choice between the two, you’d want to choose to be a female 10/10.1 point

Sure but as I'm new to the site I'm finding the rules of being off-topic are a bit confusing to me. Regarding personal prejudice, I was just owning up to mine as a preamble but you see where that got me.1 point

Then without proof I am entitled to deny it. The issue is that it’s presented as fact when it isn’t There was no Big Bang When quantum physics is understood and mainstream and when we can access the other 10 dimensions of the universe and when we realise there is life outside of our materialistic experience and when you are faced with a choice of which side your on you will wish you had listened to those who claimed the supernatural exists and that this life is a shadow of a larger existence. Enjoy the ride.-1 points

What right have you to criticise your fellow secular scientists? Don’t you think that step one of any experiment like this would be an analysis of generations vs number of specimens vs virtual timeline it represents? go read some case studies, there are thousands Ok I’m going to tell you this because I am duty bound to offer you salvation. I am in no way preaching at you and I never will mention this again but you asked. Be careful not to offer a knee jerk response, best to say nothing in case you offend a greater being you later regret offending, and you will. Read John 3 16.-1 points
