  1. I've prepared a simple toy: It consists of a pencil and a string that goes through a hole in the pencil and makes a loop. The ends of the string are glued together. The loop is shorter than the long end of the pencil: so, it can't be moved over it. Then, I insert the pencil through the buttonhole like this: This is how it looks from the other side: I can separate them again and repeat without cutting, breaking, untying, etc. Can you figure it out? I can take more pictures, from different angles, if you need. There are no hidden cuts or anything like it. You can make it yourself.

  2. Not to mention that this is common distraction used since, well, probably ever. "Look there are folks doing silly things in the name of *thing*, therefore let's disregard *thing*". It is unfortunately an efficient way to handwave away structural issues. The interesting bit is that I am hearing the same thing since the 80s and at the same time folks are claiming every time that in the last decade or so the issues are fixed and a ton of progress has been made. However, if things were already fixed, how the heck did they perceive progress?

  3. Well actually I think that’s a bit of a non-story. All it says is we don’t have recycling capacity yet. But that’s to be expected, since the panels installed over the last decade won’t need replacing for another 15 years. Nobody is going to invest in a plant that will sit idle for years.
