  1. Thanks Phi. Just in case any republicans think the video is absurdly far-fetched. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/04/14/ted-cruzs-doomed-war-on-sex-toys-and-masturbation/ And that's from the Telegraph which is definitely Right-leaning.

  3. Getting shot of huge amounts of CO2 requires proportionately huge quantities of sequestrant. One sequestrant that could fit the bill is Fe2O3 (haematite) that comprises the much of the extensive banded iron formations which are globally distributed. My thoughts on this drifted to the following schemata which needs input from a proper chemist to evaluate. Fe2O3 + 6HI(aq) > 2FeI2 + 3H2O + I2 Note Fe3+ reduced to Fe2+ 4NaOH(aq) + 2CO2 > 2Na2CO3 + 2H2O Stripping process from rich CO2 stream 2FeI2 + 2Na2CO3 > 2FeCO3 + 4NaI Precipitation of siderite (desired product) for anaerobic disposal 4NaI(aq) + 4H2O > 4NaOH(aq) + 2H2 + 2I2 Electrolytic regeneration of NaOH H2O > H2 + 1/2O2 Further electrolysis of NaOH(aq) to balance H2 demand 3H2 + 3I2 > 6HI Regeneration of HI (fuel cell?) The overall reaction sums to Fe2O3 + 2CO2 > 2FeCO3 + 1/2O2 ... which I'm sure is endothermic but not I think in the ballpark of the exothermy of carbon combustion. What are the howlers I need to address? Is there a better reducing agent than iodide (eg scrap iron)? Any other positive input welcome of course.

  4. I might INow. Someone might have to tell me "sorry about this...but you have to play in this other division. You don't qualify for the one you prefer". (though transmales are currently allowed to play against other males with no extra restrictions...since they are considered to be at a disadvantage not an advantage, and can also play against females as they are considered to have no advantage) I understand your point. But I've understood it for years. Now can I ask you whether or not you are in favour of using detrimental drug treatments to compensate for the known XY advantages in sports, in order to allow them to play in competitive fairness (as the IOC would define competitive fairness) against XX athletes?

  5. In addition to swansot's comment, putting a spy satellite that high would make it pretty useless as its image resolution would not be very good. Generally, they would be put into much lower polar orbits. So the Earth rotates under it, allowing it to observe pretty much any point on the surface over time. The particular orbit in the image is a Sun synchronous one. This means that as the satellite passes over a particular point of the Earth's surface, it is being lit the same by the Sun. This assures that differences in images between successive passes aren't due to different lighting angles from the Sun.

  6. It is a version of Pepper's Ghost: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepper's_ghost Probably you're more familiar with the 2d variety. For 3D, you use multiple images to achieve the effect. Any image can be made to work though.

  7. No, but I have and still do feel/believe I was born in the wrong body. I suffer from body dysmorphia for one thing. So I can and do find some empathy for people who believe they were born in the wrong body. Well for me personally yes, opening up the playing field in a way that could be exploited. Granted, only a few individual cases have made the headlines. Depends on what sporting discipline and at what level. Honestly, it's not ever going to affect me personally, so from a selfish perspective I couldn't give a crap who competes with who. If you want to promote a left wingest, "in vogue" virtuous, woke driven extremist society, to make you feel better about yourself crack on.
