Agree on the approaches to opioids (Perdue also deserved a much heavier penalty) and immigration, and I think Biden should have taken the tiller more on immigration rather than handing off to Harris. And the right wing news bubble doesn't help either, as Faux and other Murdochian news outlets have ignored positive things Biden has initiated or spun them negatively. One place where Biden can really shine, in a campaign, is that he can avoid negative atttacks and just sell his positive accomplishments. Old guys are better at not taking the bait (well, some old guys). If he ends up passing the torch to someone else next summer, I hope they are also of that temperament and listen to Joe.1 point

Whereas jargon is specialized vocabulary used by those inside established social groups, often defined by professional status (e.g. legal jargon), slang is more typically used among those who are outside established higher-status groups. Slang, or “colloquial speech,” describes words or phrases that are used instead of more everyday terms among younger speakers and other groups with special interests. The word bucks (for dollars or money) has been a slang expression for more than a hundred years in the United States, but the addition of mega- (“a lot of”) in megabucks is a more recent innovation, along with dead presidents (whose pictures are on paper money) and benjamins (from Benjamin Franklin, on $100 bills). According to one recent description, “Slang is a highly informal and unconventional type of vocabulary. It is perceived as deeply expressive, attractively catchy, and deliberately undignified” (Widawski, 2015: 8). Like clothing and music, slang is an aspect of social life that is subject to fashion, especially among adolescents. It can be used by those inside a group who share ideas and attitudes as a way of distinguishing themselves from others. As a marker of group identity during a limited stage of life such as early adolescence, slang expressions can “grow old” rather quickly. Older forms for “really good” such as groovy, hip and super were replaced by awesome, rad and wicked which gave way to dope, kickass and phat. A hunk (“physically attractive man”) became a hottie and, instead of something being the pits (“really bad”), the next generation thought it was a bummer, harsh!, or said, That’s sucky!. The difference in slang use between groups divided into older and younger speakers provides some of the clearest support for the idea that age is another important factor involved in the study of social variation in language use. From what I learned a few years ago, when vaping devices were relatively new, is don't let the battery go below 20% as a rule. Charging from an exhausted state repeatedly is what causes the risk. For reasons that escape me now, lithium metal can be formed under circumstances of re-charging under very low charge. TLDR: Always top-up a Lithium-ion battery. It likes to be charged up. Top-up is good; Deep discharge and re-charge will degrade the battery faster and more likely create the internal conditions for lithium metal and a fire to form. e2a it might be below a residual 2.5v that things can become risky. The operating voltage range is 3.3-4.3v I think. Most of my learning info on this subject came fro the Battery University site iirc.1 point

Happiness is the wrong metric, IMO. Healthiness, specifically mental health, is the way to go. You lose your job and have an entire family counting on you for survival? Don’t worry, be happy! Your spouse get raped leaving work? Don’t worry, be happy! Your child die in a fire? Don’t worry, be happy! You got diagnosed with terminal cancer at the age of 14? Don’t worry, be happy! Did warring tribes raid your village and slaughter everyone living there? Don’t worry, be happy! Can’t afford food or shelter and living in squalor for decades at a time? Don’t worry, be happy! Nonsense. Feeling the reality around us and dealing with it in a healthy authentic manner needs to be the goal, not some bumper sticker “turn that frown upside down!” childish cartoon view of goals for existence. If feeling better is your goal, then science has shown charity and helping others, finding meaning in our actions, spending time outdoors, and getting consistent quality sleep tend to be the strongest levers…. But disappointment and failure will be your primary outcome if you try to prioritize happiness over healthiness.1 point

Although these recommendations might be helpful sometimes, I disagree for them to be guidelines. Let's look at ##5-7, which are about errors/mistakes and constitute 1/3 of the set: They all assume that errors/mistakes are 'bad things'. They promote fear of making errors/mistakes. I disagree. I'd replace them with the following: 5'. Remain engaged in what you are currently doing and don't be afraid of errors. 6'. When you do make an error, admit that it was an error. 7'. Analyse your error to find its source and to check if there is something useful in it anyway, if it can be converted to a positive thing, if it is in fact "a blessing in disguise". Be ready for serendipities.1 point

I don't need to think so because there is no conflict between mathematics and physics. YOUR so-called "laws of physics" are nonsense.1 point

What a pity you didn't simply ask how I came to my answer. If we try to substitute x = 0 into the given expression we find [math]\frac{{{2^x} - 1}}{x} \to \frac{{1 - 1}}{0} \to \frac{0}{0}[/math] Which we know we cannot do. But the situation is remedable as we can apply l'Hopital's rule thus [math]\frac{{\frac{d}{{dx}}\left( {{2^x} - 1} \right)}}{{\frac{d}{{dx}}\left( x \right)}} = \frac{{2^x}\ln 2}{1} = \ln 2 = 0.693[/math]1 point

We humans try to put things into neat little categories. Boy girl. White black. Hot cold. Yummy yucky. It makes our feeble ape minds happy, but the universe doesn’t care about our word and category choices. It’s all on a spectrum, and it differs based on your perspective. Two people looking at the exact same thing might have two totally different interpretations. It’s all relative, you might say… and what is alive versus what is not is no different in that regard… and viruses really laugh at us when we’re trying to decide whether they’re alive or not.1 point

But they are former Saxe-Coburgs! Just because they decided one day that they were Windsors instead, why should we accept that? Clearly they are still Germans, who experience some sort of Teutonic dysphoria and imagine they are Brits. What about all these poor non-Germans who participate in beer drinking contests and then trans-Windsors come in pretending to be non-German? These former Saxe-Coburgs will kick everyone's ass!1 point

I can’t work it out for myself. I can’t fathom why a woman who has been artificially inseminated to have a child with her partner has any bearing on this conversation.0 points

Yes, and? What significance do you think this little blurb holds? It’s not like this is the only same-sex couple to have kids.0 points

As far as I'm concerned, it they were assigned Windsor at birth, and have gone through puberty as Windsors, then they are not trans Windsors, they were simply wrongly assigned at birth, like Caster Semenya. If found to have raised levels of haughtiness, and lowered sense of humour, that can be addressed with compensatory treatments.0 points

Why don't you check your facts, before you come out with these silly aggressive posts? Caster Semenya has XY chromosomes, and 5α-Reductase 2 deficiency, Look that up, and you will find "The condition is rare, affects only genetic males, and has a broad spectrum." Wikipedia.-1 points

Do you think that undefined opinios of mathematicians are more useful in physics than laws of physics? For y=x/x When we approach x to 0 there is no changing of the result.-2 points

If you can't work it out yourself, then nothing I say is going to help. I'm not going to nit pick with you till christmas.-2 points
