Adam, does mental illness run in your family?

    Adam

The UIC Police released a sketch of two possible attackers/rapists, one who attacked a woman, stole her purse, and ran off...the other raped the woman before running off. Point of the story: One of the sketches looked astonishingly similar to Adam.
  3. The United States has always recognized a seperation of Church and State...Why the hell don't you people realize the same relationship applies to Church and Science?

    Bug Breath

As Nature.com recently reported, scientists, using Super High Powered X-Rays, have discovered how insects breathe. The system is comprised of tracheae that run throughout the insect's body, which become smaller as they branch off, and ultimately vent through what's known as spiracles. This is a huge breakthough in the study of insects, but unknown is what further discoveries will pursue. Full article here. Also See ScienceMag
  6. Two well preserved, recently discovered, ancient skulls were found in Europe. The French paleoanthropologists carbon dated, and proved the skulls to be nearly Six Million years old, which is 1 million years older than the previously thought "original man". This challenges the "out of Africa" theory, and could prove that man was not originally from Africa (or black). <source: article from Laurie Goldman of Popular Science>
  7. To throw in a comment to argue about, in a book that I've been reading about Prison Writing, Edited by Franklin H. Bruce, a convict, who had been in jail since the age of 16, had stated, "I do not know if I'm a homosexual or not, I've never had the chance to sexually relate to members of the opposite sex". I believe that there are both people who turn homosexual, and people who are born homosexual--these more so represented in the female community than the male; Women who have had extreemly bad relationships with men, decide to try women, and become homosexual.

  9. Screw it, I say we just make some sort of big sling and just throw the earth into some other planet's orbit...we might even lose some greenhouse gasses on the way. :bs:
  10. Blike, make me a wormhole, and an omlett....we'll test this theory of relativity ourselves. Forget the private sector, they never solve anything anyways.
  11. Scientific American has an interesting article from their September 2002 issue on how building a time machine could be made possible. I myself have Doc Brown on my side, and Marty McFly at the wheel. Wouldn't it be interesting though if we really could go Back to the Future?
  12. Stop complaining....Chicago has two seasons, which're respectively dubbed "Cold" and "Why do I still live here".
  13. I've always been weary of "Universe Theories"...it seems to me that we don't know close to enough about it to even create a hypothesis on anything relating to it. Let's get interstellar travel down, then start worrying about the expanding of the universe. :toilet:
  14. The always favorite: "Mean People Suck." - A Bumper Sticker?
  15. I wish them nothing but the best, but I also hope they'll be willing to share with out nations (specifically the United States) the information that is found on this "Red Planet".
  16. This shows a lot of promise in the destruction of Creationism, but honestly, it is only a theory. There is no proof that life does or does not exist outside of our galaxy. That "something" that set the peculiar conditions for our existance could not be repeated? Who's to say that "something" else could set similiar conditions in a different universe/galaxy, not replicating ours, but evolving very similiar? If the theory proves true, and we are alone, we're pretty much screwed when the sun decides to go kabloomie....and Hollywood is out a couple billion dollars a year.

    Accutane

Not only depression, but depression with attempted suicide. The TV show 20/20 had a segment on Accutane, which depicted the life of a very very normal teenager, who turned suicidal after being prescribed Accutane. I will never take it, nor recomend it to anyone even considering the use of it.
  19. The blame can't be focused as much on hormones as it can on the fact that the majority of nutrition is being passed through the fetus. Somewhat like a tape worm infection.
  20. Everyone wants immediate gratification, despite the possible risks. I blame it on Hollywood.
  21. So be it for our society to find the lazy way into weight loss. Sure this fixes obesity, but it doesn't fix internal strenght of muscle's or lungs. To me, this seems like an easy way for anorexics to speed up the process of killing themselves, more exercise should be considered, and less weight loss drugs prescribed. If a combination of the two is to be utilized, it's no better than the over-the-counter drug Xenodren, which is also abused by many. Natural Health is the best Health.
  22. That study includes illicit drugs, but what about the percentage of people who abuse household substances? or drugs considered legal by law?
  23. I don't see how it would slow research down, just the time period that we recieve the results of research. They didn't say they were going to stop research all together.
  24. images would be okay, in my opinion.
