  1. There are certain key configurations which cause quick switch of keyboard and language. What they are you can see by clicking on the right bottom bar where is keyboard small icon, press RMB, and pick up "Settings..", then in tab "Advanced Key Settings".. they are mentioned. Alternatively Start, enter "Language", then pick up "Region and Language", then tab "Keyboard and Languages" and "Change Keyboard.." this will bring you to the same window as above. (there is more possible ways to get to it) I verified it on my Win7. A few screen-shots from the net: It is the first thing I am switching off after fresh installation of new instance of OS, as it is unbearable annoying.. Press "Change Key Sequence" and pick up "Not Assigned" on both and voila!
  2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthesis_of_precious_metals#Gold_synthesis_in_a_nuclear_reactor "Gold was synthesized from mercury by neutron bombardment in 1941, but the isotopes of gold produced were all radioactive.[12] In 1924, a Japanese physicist, Hantaro Nagaoka, accomplished the same feat.[13] Gold can currently be manufactured in a nuclear reactor by the irradiation of either platinum or mercury. Only the mercury isotope 196Hg, which occurs with a frequency of 0.15% in natural mercury, can be converted to gold by slow neutron capture, and following electron capture, decay into gold's only stable isotope, 197Au. When other mercury isotopes are irradiated with slow neutrons, they also undergo neutron capture, but either convert into each other or beta decay into the thallium isotopes 203Tl and 205Tl. Using fast neutrons, the mercury isotope 198Hg, which composes 9.97% of natural mercury, can be converted by splitting off a neutron and becoming 197Hg, which then decays into stable gold. This reaction, however, possesses a smaller activation cross-section and is feasible only with unmoderated reactors. It is also possible to eject several neutrons with very high energy into the other mercury isotopes in order to form 197Hg. However such high-energy neutrons can be produced only by particle accelerators.[clarification needed]. In 1980, Glenn Seaborg transmuted several thousand atoms of bismuth into gold at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. His experimental technique, using nuclear physics, was able to remove protons and neutrons from the bismuth atoms. Seaborg's technique was far too expensive to enable the routine manufacture of gold but his work is the closest yet to emulating the mythical Philosopher's Stone.[14][15]"
  3. There is no 6 GeV microwave. Check Wikipedia what are energies of microwave photons! MW have less energy than IR which have less energy than visible photon (energies between 1.8 eV to 3.5 eV). Van de Graaff generator is capable to accelerate particles to such kinetic energies. In nuclear reactors they made unstable radioactive isotopes of Gold, unable to be used or sold commercially. Only 10% of isotopes of Mercury is Hg-198: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isotopes_of_mercury 90% are Hg-199 .. Hg-204 Ejection of single proton from >= Hg-199 to get Au, would lead to very unstable Gold isotope, which would decay anyway. The only relatively stable Gold isotope is Au-197. If you have 200 grams of Mercury, it has ~20 grams of Hg-198. And there is total 6.022141 * 10^23 atoms of Mercury any isotope. If you would have device that is ejecting single proton from it taking 12 MeV per single atom, you would need 6.022141* 10 ^23 * 12 MeV = 6.022141* 10 ^23 * 1.2e+7 * 1.6021766*10^-19 = 1.157e+12 Joules of energy. https://www.google.com/search?q=6.022141*+10+^23+*+12+MeV That is 1157 GJ or 1.157 TJ 1 oz is 31.1 g. 200 grams of Hg-198 turned perfectly to Au-197 with 100% (unimaginable) efficiency would have retail cost 200g / 31.1g * 1500 usd/oz = 9646 usd. What is price of 1157 GJ of energy? Google: "According to the Energy Information Administration, the average cost of a kilowatt-hour of electricity in the residential sector in America is around 13.7 cents per kilowatt-hour. This means that the cost of 1 MWh of power for a homeowner is around $137" You would have the priciest piece of Gold ever made in the Universe.
  4. I am interpreting it as 12 MeV in single particle kinetic energy. Quantity of such particles per second is a valid and important question though.
  5. Mass has different unit (dimension) than energy. In SI it is obviously kg and Joule. In quantum physics it is eV/c^2. Energy has unit eV.
  6. The reason for increased rate of homosexuality in the Calhoun's experiment is increased testosterone (or other hormone) level in the essential moment of embryo development. Overcrowded environment is just trigger of stress of mother during pregnancy. We can imagine limitless other sources of stress, like afraid of being single mother (unknown, unwilling to have children or dead partner) etc. In other experiment, scientists working with farm animals, wanted to find reason of homosexuality of bulls (which rendered them useless). They ended up drilling holes in hundred chicken eggs and injected testosterone, and the all newly born birds were homosexual. They used chickens to have results faster (quicker reproduction). Experiment was repeated with other birds and they get the same results. To get such data scientists would have to live and work in environment were every homosexual person is revealing his or her preference without worrying about what people say or do (reminding you in some still primitive countries there is imprisonment or even death penalty for homosexual activity) for couple hundred years to be able to get meaningful statistical data. Working with animals is faster and they do not lie revealing true orientation.

  8. ..natural selection has no goals... ...natural selection has no intelligence...
  9. One dishonest person can get two functions or datasets from connected or completely different disconnected areas of science, or non-science crap, and the only common thing will be their mathematical similarity of curvature. There is infinite such mathematical equations which look very the same. Especially if dishonest person will lay them down on the same graph, offset little, eventually scale etc. etc. The same do astrologists, soothsayers etc.
  10. He has to make computer application, which can learn (i.e. put records to database) phrases, and then retrieving them on demand from database. That is how I understand sentence "Design and development* of an expert system that teaches figure of speech".. *) shouldn't be here "develop"? "Teaching" might be in form of quiz. i.e. application is showing randomly picked up from database phrase, gives couple wrong answers and one correct, and asks user to select one of options. If correct answer is picked, score is increased, if wrong answer is picked, the correct one is highlighted (so user will learn which is correct for future). Scores are put to high-score table to see improvements over time. If I am right about your assignment, then such app could have following options: 1) add new entry to database 2) remove existing entry from database 3) edit existing entry in database 4) retrieve entry from database (a) randomly b) by entering keyword) 5) quiz for user to check knowledge 6) show high-scores
  11. Recursion might end up with overflow of CPU stack, if it is not properly coded (starting from depth limit, dynamically checking available left stack space etc.). Reminding you, default Windows OS thread has 1 MB CPU stack size. It is easy to cause overflow. The more arguments passed on stack to function, the more local variables, the quicker it will happen. Recursion is typically replaced by software stack to not have to call the same function in the loop. At the moment, I am making my own PDF parser. Whether parsing requires recursion strongly depends on what kind of data are being parsed. e.g. mathematical equation can use nested parenthesis, so recursion might be used to handle them. Ray-tracing is better example of algorithm that relies on recursion. I even know some 3D applications which were crashing due to overflow of stack when too many reflective and/or refractive objects have been put in the scene and fired rays back and forth between surfaces. Therefor need for option "Ray Recursion Limit" in such engines. Start from Wikipedia article about recursion: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recursion_(computer_science)
  12. Yes, it is scary.. It might end up with crash of application, see example code: void foo() { foo(); } Programmers tend to avoid recursion.
  13. Solar furnace just needs enough area of mirrors reflecting light toward focal point. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_furnace "The temperature at the focal point may reach 3,500 °C (6,330 °F), and this heat can be used to generate electricity, melt steel, make hydrogen fuel or nanomaterials. "
  14. What are coefficients to convert this new unknown "jerk energy" to potential energy or kinetic energy.. ?
  15. This is an example of how to make a really bad the first impression...
  16. ...annihilation of electrons and positrons happen all day long inside of the Sun... and it is nothing unusual.. new positrons are created during fusion of two Hydrogen-1 atoms.
  17. How come? Chickens are also stardust..
  18. In mathematics multiplication by infinity gives infinity as a result.
  19. He put them on his own website.. so he will be able to remove/modify/change them at any time... but I made screen-shots, just in case, if they will "magically" change content..
  20. Do you pay special attention to units (dimensions) used in your equations? i.e. units on the left side of equation must match the right side of equation.. It's called dimensional analysis. Take for example your the first equation. What is unit of dg and g? Is not the same units/dimensions? (r is in meters, and c is in m/s, obviously) If yes, then how come you have dg/dr on the left and g/c2 on the far right?
  21. Half the wavelength? This would double the energy and frequency... It is not the case.. Polarization filter passes one (i.e. it is transparent to) photon with "appropriate" polarization, and reflects another photon with "inappropriate" polarization. What is "appropriate"/"inappropriate" depends on angle of polarization filter. Energy is conserved prior and after the event. If the original light beam was not polarized at all, half of all photons pass through and other half of the photons are reflected. Wavelength/frequency/energy of the photon is unchanged (or not significantly changed to be detectable by human). The simplest example is to place a polarizing filter on the front of an LCD/LED computer screen, and rotate, as shown in this thread:
  22. The photon ceases to exist after it is absorbed by matter. The same with proton capture, neutron capture, neutrino capture, electron capture etc. etc.
  23. It's made of straight lines, hard edges, to be able to have flat solar panel on the roof...
  24. In Special Relativity there are rest-mass (invariant-mass) and relativistic-mass. Massless particles like photons (light) have no rest-mass, but relativistic-mass.
