CRT has such shape, as it has (i.e. funnel), because it is the most optimal for electromagnets or electrostatic deflectors, which bend path of electrons. CRT for TV screen has electron gun on one end (quite small), and fluorescent/luminescent screen on the other end, with the largest area.

High fertility rate of any living organism is correlated to offspring mortality rate. Species which have large rate of deaths of newly born and in childhood, have to have large number of children. Otherwise specie will extinct. List of countries by infant and under-five mortality rates (per thousand in 2013 year): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_infant_and_under-five_mortality_rates (scroll wiki page to the bottom. There are historical data since 1950 per country) Notice that there are regions with mortality rate >= 10%.. ! Human broke from this "rule" thanks to vaccines, modern medicine, and cleaner standards of living (hygiene). Natural adaptation is to have less offspring, as more will survive. But not entire world adopted. In some areas they continue "tradition". Now their fertility is problematic. Couple hundred years ago, these children would die in childhood, before reaching adult age. There is needed to change mentality. Let's compare it with fertility rate worldwide map (quantity of child per woman in 2017): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sovereign_states_and_dependencies_by_total_fertility_rate

Is there any way you can see the dates and times of history in firefox?
Sensei replied to Med555's topic in Computer Science
Try clicking History > Show All History, It has menu Views, and there is option to show date & time (the last visit date). You might need to adjust columns to see additional column. +1 for interesting question. I think this option should be default turned on, as it's quite useful. -
"In the system of Greek numerals, it has a value of 100. " Keyword is Greek numerals! When it's used in physics, it has different, context dependent, meaning. Rho is also symbol of meson particle in high energy physics. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rho_meson These things should not be mixed and confused together. Analogical situation: imagine Roman numerals. There are e.g. I, V, X, C, M.. Each of these letters has some value 1, 5, 10, 100, 1000..

Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Repairing.
Sensei replied to prashantakerkar's topic in Engineering
If you used phone number on some website, which requested for phone number as yet another method of password recovery or authentication, after a while of not using it (i.e. one year), it will be assigned to new SIM, and sold and acquired by somebody else.. Then new owner of number could use this password recovery feature to get new password in SMS and this way to break in to your account.. Very tricky, you would need to be somebody important (or rich), to bother hackers to do something like this.. -
NFC has 4 cm range... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Near-field_communication "Near-field communication (NFC) is a set of communication protocols that enable two electronic devices, one of which is usually a portable device such as a smartphone, to establish communication by bringing them within 4 cm (1.6 in) of each other.[1]" (other sources say about <= 10 cm, and <= 20 cm) Buy remote controlled car toy or micro-drone-toy (the cheapest one you can get), remove everything unneeded, and you have essential stuff: button from remote controller, and circuit which can be on or off, on device. If batteries are enough for toy, after removing 95% of it (plastic body of toy), they will last longer.

Measuring acceleration due to gravity.
Sensei replied to prashantakerkar's topic in Classical Physics

Measuring acceleration due to gravity.
Sensei replied to prashantakerkar's topic in Classical Physics
g=9.81 m/s^2 is not real constant. It's variable. Depends on distance from the source of gravitation of this planet, the Earth center. The further from the center, the smaller gravitation. So, altitude does matter. On high mountain you have different gravitation, than on sea level beach, and different when you're flying in airplane 10 km above the ground.. [math]F(r)=\frac{GMm}{r^2}[/math] [math]F=m a[/math] [math]a(r)=\frac{GM}{r^2}[/math] There are also local variations of gravitation caused by presence of e.g. heavy metal ores in the ground, and therefore they can be detected. Read article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravity_of_Earth "Effective gravity on the Earth's surface varies by around 0.7%, from 9.7639 m/s2 on the Nevado Huascarán mountain in Peru to 9.8337 m/s2 at the surface of the Arctic Ocean.[4] In large cities, it ranges from 9.7760[5] in Kuala Lumpur, Mexico City, and Singapore to 9.825 in Oslo and Helsinki." Only in very basic calculations. -
Windmill https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windmill Watermill https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watermill They can provide power/energy/motion, without neither electricity nor magnets.. Brett, are you native English speaker? It doesn't seem to, looking how you are expressing. In RSA, there are 11 official languages.. Maybe misunderstanding comes from simple fact that everything what you say must be translated to English first.. It's not so simple. Magnet can cause movement of ferromagnetic metals, or ions, or electrically charged particles. Magnet can cause induction in metal (the smaller resistance the better, therefor Copper is widely used). Typically long wire with insulator winded around piece of ferromagnetic core (transformer / electric generator - Alternator). To eliminate eddy currents core is not single piece of Iron/ferromagnetic.

Which alcohols/fuels can be used for making the green flame?
Sensei replied to Fae's topic in Science Education
Smelling isopropanol for a few minutes can cause headaches. Drinking it causes vomits. That's for a start. It's used by electricians/electronics engineers to clean up wires, elements, boards etc. Ethanol can have organic origin (fermentation of plants, vegetables and fruits), or inorganic chemistry origin (byproduct of some reaction in chemical plant). Ethanol made by factory still contains some contaminations (e.g. heavy metals), which are not present in normal organic fermentation. Thus there is added yet another contamination to disallow it to be drinkable by people, or reused by food industry to make alcohol drinks. -

LCD, LED, OLED, semiconductors, diodes, photodiodes, photoresistors, transistors, phototransistors, lasers, CD, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-RW, Blu-ray, solar panels, etc. etc. even CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) (obsolete TV screen) is utilizing quantum physics knowledge.. Then be so kind and share this evidence with us ... -
Congratulation to show that you have no idea what you are talking about. You don't even know proper terminology which is widely used even by non-professional programmers. 1) procedures, routines, sub-routines, functions. If inside of OOP class, they're called methods. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subroutine 2) conditional branches, or unconditional branches. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Branch_(computer_science) 3) control flow of program https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Control_flow 4) source code. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Source_code 5) compilation and compiler, interpretation and interpreter. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compiler https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interpreter_(computing)

How about reversing your question: which element can be used as contamination to get exact flame color? The list of flame colors of various elements you can find here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flame_test -
If somebody dies, who has no idea that he/she has cancer of some organ, but organ will be used for transplantation, without proper checking whether it is infected, cancer can spread to other person. Unfortunately such mistakes happened and will happen in the future..

Isn't 'science' education" actually brainswashing?
Sensei replied to Taingorz's topic in Speculations
Majority of living organisms on the Earth are not reproducing in sexual intercourse, between male and female, no husband nor wife, but because of division of cell, and they differentiate due to mutation. If mutation is useful, organism is surviving, and spreading change in DNA/RNA to the future generations. If mutation is complete failure, organism is quickly dying. If mutation is partial failure, organism can become easy meal for predator, and surrounding it environment will "decide" whether mutation will be spreading or not (e.g. complete white pigeon is easily visible by hawk in environment which is gray like rocks or modern city buildings.. but is hard to be visible in winter environment like Greenland, Canada, North Europe, North Russia, Alaska.. but in environment without hawks or any other predators such mutation can be freely spreading). True homosexual person didn't choose to be homosexual. In majority of cases it's result of action of hormones on embryo in the wrong moment of its early development (that's why there are cases in which pair of twins have different sexuality). And it's not illness, which can (or should) be cured. From New Testament you should better learn some humbleness, tolerance to other people, and minorities. "Don't judge, to not be judged".. -
Isn't 'science' education" actually brainswashing?
Sensei replied to Taingorz's topic in Speculations
No. Because everybody can repeat experiments at home, observe and measure them, and came up with the same equations. Evolution can be observed in the real life, every day.. Pathogens are mutating all the time (they want to survive in unfriendly environment!), and medicament from yesterday, might be not working anymore with newer mutation (pathogens change, adjust to unfriendly environment full of some kind of medicament, something dangerous for them).. Thus need to make new vaccines and medicament every year for f.e. flu. -
Whether element is metal, or non-metal, or it's in solid, liquid, gas or plasma state, depends on temperature and pressure. Metals are metals just because we're here on the Earth and using room ambient environment temperature. Increase temperature, with fixed volume, and metal will turn to gas at high enough temperature. Increase temperature, with fixed volume, and Hydrogen will turn to metallic state at high enough temperature. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallic_hydrogen See for example non-metal Sulfur. It has many allotropes. S2, S3, S4, S5, S8 to name a few. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allotropes_of_sulfur (some of them are metallic!)

In high energy quantum physics, particle with high kinetic energy colliding with other particle, can create pair of particle-antiparticle. Which kind of pair will be created depends on velocity/kinetic energy of incoming particle. e.g. if kinetic energy exceeds 1.022 MeV there can be created pair of electron-positron. You started with two particles at the beginning, accelerated one of them to relativistic velocity, but ended up with four particles at the end of experiment. Pair production of proton-antiproton: [math]p^+ + p^+ \rightarrow p^+ + p^+ + p^+ + p^-[/math] Particle with low kinetic energy colliding with other particle is creating photon. Particle with kinetic energy exceeding 2.22 MeV colliding with nucleus of Deuterium can destroy it, i.e. free proton and free neutron will be created in reaction. [math]D^+ + \gamma + 2.22 MeV \rightarrow p^+ + n^0[/math] (photodisintegration of Deuterium) Gamma photon with high energy can be absorbed, scattered, emitted, repeat it millions of times, and instead of one single gamma photon at the beginning you end up with millions of photons, with low energies.

Definitely yes. It might reduce stress and anger of passengers involved when airport officer is forcing them to drop to trashcan something which is not allowed to be taken on board of airplane. But it can cause additional security issues (OTOH thing disallowed to be taken and dropped to trashcan can already be dangerous, no matter if it's put in self storage or not..) ...

Factors that limit hardness of stainless steel
Sensei replied to StringJunky's topic in Applied Chemistry
It's important how uniformly contamination is mixed with base material. Local less, or local more, is weakening that region of material.
