Do you think there is something wrong with society which pressures women to study for many years and then work before having to give it all up to give birth and raise children only to find it harder to re-enter the professional workforce later in life?
Sensei replied to mad_scientist's topic in Ethics
If woman studied many years, she will be better mother to her children, because she is better educated, she better knows how world is working, and will be able to answer many more questions asked by her kid. Woman is, or at least should be, the first teacher of kid. Starting from learning reading, writing, mathematics, and everything what she knows and remembers from school and university. She should build the curiosity of the world and satisfy it by interesting challenges, developing intelligence of kid. It's very sad, and devastating, to see mother/father with kids which are going together quiet *), without discussion going on about interesting subjects (world is full of interesting things around us, and kid is naturally curious about them and asking questions). Such people don't treat their kids as partners to discussion ("because they are just kids",treating them as somebody at lower level than they are, not worthwhile to waste time explaining them anything with details). *) I have seen parents which are saying to kids asking about something in adult discussion, answering "shut up, adults are now talking, go play".. After couple such answers kid has enough, and stop talking to parent about anything. Parent should treat kid as partner. Not only partner to discussion, but the real partner. Treat kid like you would like to be treated. -
Uneven advancement between science and mentality in humans.

You're completely ignoring fact that until XIX century there was no free obligatory education (obligatory primary schools), even in western culture countries. Education was for 1) nobility 2) rich urbanite 3) clerics. Only few richest lucky people were learning how to read and write, not even mentioning more advanced things.. Check out rate of illiterate persons vs years. Worldwide and per country. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_literacy_rate https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Literacy Illiteracy rate in France between XVIII-XIX centuries: Worldwide it's looking much worser.. ...but you first need to know how to read and write to be able use stored information.. (and of course you need to be interested in how Universe/World works.. majority of people IMHO are not really interested) -
I see you just mention amount of Hydrogen everywhere, omitting how much you will need Oxygen.. 100 kg Hydrogen = 100 000 grams / 4.3h / 3600s = 6.46 grams of Hydrogen burned/reacted per second. 6.46 grams of Hydrogen requires 51.27 grams of Oxygen, from air, if you don't take it in tank. There is 0.3 grams of Oxygen in Liter of air at sea-level (and less at higher altitude). 51.27 g / 0.3g/L = 170.9 L of air must be sucked in by fuel cells per second. Approximately 10.26 m^3 per minute. Looks quite a lot. Wouldn't it require powerful air compressor.. ?

Does the sun release stored energy?
Sensei replied to MarkE's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
For many modern scientists word mass is equal to rest-mass. Charged particle, or complex particle made of few sub-atomic charged particles (overall neutral), can be put to rest, and rest-mass is measured. Relativistic-mass of positron and proton (or muon+) can be the same (and their electric charge is the same), but their kinetic energies, velocities, Lorentz factors are different. Photon is detected when it's absorbed by matter. Then it's momentum and energy influence matter that absorbed it. Total energy of system is increased. Then it can be emitted back to environment, or bunch of photons with lower energies instead. -
I Think Someone Discovered The True Mechanism Of Electromagnetism
Sensei replied to isawit's topic in Speculations
Coulomb's force equation [math]F=k_e \frac{q_1 q_2}{r^2}[/math] has been extended to Lorentz force equation in XIX century... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorentz_force [math]F=q E + q v \times B[/math] to include influence of external magnetic field on moving charged particles.. Video showing it in the real life. At the end of it, author is playing with magnet, bending electrons path. -
Unstable particles cannot decay when observed?
Sensei replied to RandomBoy's topic in Quantum Theory
"Observation" does not literally mean "human eye watching event".. There is one known radioactive decay mode which can be stopped/delayed. If radioactive isotope decays exclusively through electron capture, and it's all the time kept in state in which electrons are ejected from atom (ionized), nucleus can't capture electron, and decay can't happen. -
Extreme high temperature insulation materials
Sensei replied to Ironroundhouse01's topic in Engineering
To create plasma there is needed: extremely high pressure from gravitation of star, extremely high pressure caused by magnetic field from superconducting electromagnets, or high voltage (at least few thousands of volts).. I assume you want to make plasma using the last method (f.e. Van de Graaff generator, Cockcroft-Walton generator) , as it's only sensible for ordinary mortal.. ? Temperature is not big problem in this case. High voltage, high current, could pass through gloves killing person, or causing electrical shock. -
Extreme high temperature insulation materials
Sensei replied to Ironroundhouse01's topic in Engineering
What you need is material with high thermal conductivity and after transport of heat outside of device, efficient way to cool it down f.e. large tank of liquid which will be absorbing energy. Surface that has direct contact with plasma won't melt, if it's all the time cooled down from outside. -
Are you complaining because of having to read book, or you are complaining because of having to write essay about it.. ? This book has 1000-1300 pages (from what I can see on Amazon). It's 1000 pages/30 pages read per hour = 33+ hours of reading.. I feel your pain here.. (maybe schools should start from learning fast reading techniques first.. ?) Well, every student has stronger and weaker areas. One of the role of schools is to enhance people in their weaker areas. I think the all books to read should be known prior semester, so student will be able to read them during summer vacation time, 2h per day multiplied by 60 days is 120h. Enough for reading 120h * 30pages/h = 3600 pages of books.

If everything ends, did it ever really exist?
Sensei replied to ImMeaningless's topic in General Philosophy
The all protons and electrons that have been created during start of this Universe are all here, unless they annihilated or transformed to other particles, during fusion, fission, or other nuclear transformation. Proton can decay to neutron, positron and neutrino (inside of proton-rich unstable isotopes, or during the most basic fusion). This process is called beta decay plus (or positron emission). Neutron will decay to proton, electron and antineutrino (free one after 15 minutes mean-life, or inside of neutron-rich unstable isotopes). This process is called beta decay minus. So, instead of one sub-atomic particle, you have couple more less massive-less energetic ones instead. Electron will annihilate with its antiparticle antimatter positron, producing gamma photons. Instead of matter-antimatter pair, you will have electric neutral photons instead. The all atoms that used to be inside of f.e. dinosaurs or Cesar or the all ancient Romans (or other body burning cultures) are inside of you. Start from reading provided by me above links. -

If I understood you correctly, you want to user visit f.e. index.html And PHP should be called to process this file, even though it's wrong extension .html (instead of .php).. Is that correct? I made it by simply changing configuration of PHP/Apache. It has option to specify which files with extensions it will process. And default is .php. But you can add there .htm and .html as well. It's often used to have dynamic images. f.e. add extension .png or dynamic .zip files And then have PHP script in image.png file (PHP script which is generating PNG on the fly), instead of the real static PNG file on disk. http://php.net/manual/en/install.unix.apache2.php step 8 of above manual is describing what extensions will be processed by PHP interpreter, and how to change it.

They are not comparable. In solar panel you invest once, then you can use the next 20-30 years, without significant costs, until it breaks (with tiny decrease of power after many years of usage). Oil you have to buy day by day. One day oil price on stock market is $145.31 per barrel in July 2008, the next couple months it dropped to $30.28 in Dec 2008. Just an example. You can't predict price of oil in couple months/weeks, not to mention period of 20-30 years. It can, and will, go high, when oil wells will be running out of oil, one by one. High demand for limited good results in increased price. I am great fan of solar panels. I would use them everywhere, if I could, and only after exhausting accumulators use regular power supply.

If you want to talk to God, better learn Quantum Physics. Because God loves Quantum Physicians (and is one of them)... You should know that already.. If you cannot say to what muons, pions, kaons, rho, phi etc. etc. unstable mesons, unstable baryons, will decay.. what energy each of them will release etc. etc. you are simply not ready enough..

No, don't cut eaten calories. Increase calories that body is burning, during physical exercise (or during regular life). The largest muscles you have the more energy they need (during exercises). Fat cells don't require a lot of energy for life. Burn fat cells, replace them by muscle cells. They will have the same weight, but smaller volume (causing illusion of not having any progress). If somebody is suddenly cutting eaten calories, body "thinks" that there is "starvation time". If you play with dumbbells, say making 20 repetitions of some exercise, and you don't feel anything (not exhausted), it means it's about time to increase weight by attaching more weight to them (therefor you need 20 kg dumbbells with 2.5 kg/5 kg/10 kg/20 kg, replaceable plates). See what guy is doing at the beginning: Do it with 5 kg dumbbells, if after 20 repetitions, you don't feel exhausted, replace by 10 kg, then by 20 kg.. 20 kg * 20 repetitions = 400 kg * 5 series in a day = 2 tons per day.

Pigs, chickens and cows have the largest populations of animals on the world (over 1 bln pieces per year born), just because they are human food source... Many unwanted as food unlucky species extincted. If population of humans will be growing at the same rate as today, the all animals will die, because they will be eaten by human. Not only currently eatable, but the all, including insects. Wow. You're double me, or more.. I am afraid that vegan/vegetarian diet won't help you much. Dumbbells and every single day exercises (that takes 10-20 minutes, but extensive like 20 kg dumbbells weight lifting 200 times), is the only reasonable way to lost weight, and stay that way for the end of your life. I would persuade cat that mice is his/her the best friend instead..

Are these examples made by you? The last one is pushing parameters on the stack, calling routines, and then does not pop them back or restore old stack pointer. https://www.google.com/search?q=push+stack+call+assembly+without+popping Also read this https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/X86_Disassembly/Functions_and_Stack_Frames

So true. Not so long ago, I watched TV document on Discovery Channel about XIX century New York butchers. One of them specialized in buying rotten pig heads, and making from them sausages. Scientists were asked to reproduce his process on TV document. They showed how to "upgrade" rotten meat, so it does not smell bad, and does not look bad.. They used just newly discovered in XIX century chemical compound that's is killing microorganisms. That "fixed" smell. They literally started from rotten pig head and ended up with indistinguishable from regular sausages. Unbelievable what people will do for money..

Maybe crystals contained water of crystallization? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_of_crystallization https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrate And after each cycle, it was changing amount of water of crystallization.. ? What solvent student used in the above experiment.. ?

Does the sun release stored energy?
Sensei replied to MarkE's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
Mass of proton is 938.272 MeV/c^2 [math]p^+ + p^+ \rightarrow D^+ + e^+ + v_e + 0.420 MeV[/math] Where does this 420 keV come from? It's difference between mass-energy of Deuterium nucleus and two protons. On the left equation you have 2 mp, on the right mass of Deuterium, mass of positron-electron and energy released in the reaction: [math]m_p c^2 + m_p c^2 = m_d c^2 + m_e c^2 + 0.420 MeV[/math] [math]938.272 MeV + 938.272 MeV = E_d + 0.511 MeV + 0.420 MeV[/math] Rearrange it: [math]E_d = 938.272 MeV + 938.272 MeV - ( 0.511 MeV + 0.420 MeV )[/math] [math]E_d = 1875.613 MeV[/math] [math]m_d = 1875.613 MeV/c^2[/math] 1u = 931.494 MeV/c^2 [math]m_d = \frac{1875.613 MeV/c^2}{931.494 MeV/c^2} = 2.01355 u[/math] Add mass of electron, and there will be ~ 2.0141 u. -
Igor sounds like somebody from Addams Family.. Maybe he started eating meat.. instead of vegetables.. ? ps. 6 hours ago I rescued life of squirrel, because dog (called Max) wanted to kill him in the park forest.. Nearly, nearly, and I would have to punch dog, and later owner..

2 years does not sound long.. Whatever you meant by "continuously"... One cigarette by other cigarette all day long.. ? If one cigarette takes 5 minutes, then 14h * 60m/h / 5m = 168 pieces per day.. Mention of quantity of them per day, per month, per year, would be more accurate. IMHO, You should first switch to electronic cigarette (as they contain less hazardous content), then after a few weeks, months, decrease liquid per day, day by day, month by month. Smoothly decrease it. Then you won't need it anymore. Drastic dramatic shutdown of psychoactive chemicals is not healthy for human brain..

Yes, compilation to different platform. I don't think so. Rather in "Assembly options" or "Linking options" You can run cmd.exe from Start, then go to these folders (mentioned in settings window that you showed in screen-shot) and run from command-line gcc/nasm/ld manually. Show list of options using /? Read manual of nasm/ld what options are available. And experiment..

From what I see "unrecognized emulation mode: 32" is error that you have. Googling for error phrase is always good idea for a start. It will show you whether other users in the past had similar problems as you encountered, and how they fixed it. https://www.google.com/search?q=ld.exe+unrecognised+emulation+mode+windows Try hints from f.e. below links for a start: https://forum.nasm.us/index.php?topic=1921.0 https://stackoverflow.com/questions/663811/why-do-i-get-the-unrecognised-emulation-mode-32-error-in-eclipse
