  1. Are you familiar with chemistry? There is very limited quantity of gases, either poisonous-toxic or inert. There is just 118 elements in periodic table. Majority of them are metals. There is needed enormous amount of energy just to heat them to melt, not to mention making gas from them. Or ionizing them. Poisonous-toxic means that it easily goes into chemical reaction. Unwanted reaction in living organism or non living object (corrosion of car body f.e.). But once it happens, it's done. Element in "locked" in newly produced molecule for thousands or millions years. So toxic substances don't last long in natural environment. Metals, except gold, don't last long either. They're going into reaction with oxygen, chlorine, fluorine etc. If humans would vanish, after couple hundred years there would be no metallic iron. Just FeO, Fe2O3, Fe3O4 etc. molecules. So make a list of all gases, poisonous or not, and analyze how they react with other elements.
  2. To have nice corona discharge increase area by using array of pins (all connected). f.e. Corona discharge appears at positively charged electrode preliminarily (that has absence of electrons). Because electrode is stealing electrons from neutrally charged gas medium. It slowly starts going through medium (air medium that has stolen electrons is stealing again from their neighborhoods). Where it happens we can see violet or blue photons. I will try making slow motion video of this effect when I will be back from shop.. Here is video, 40000 volts: On the left there is positive electrode (stealing electrons from air), on the right there is negative electrode. Unfortunately didn't managed to take high speed, just regular. On slow motion it's visible that thunderbolt goes from positive electrode to negative electrode. After extending distance I had explosion of capacitor (also recorded on another video) As always the same, the first one in ladder. It's always scary thing when it happens.
  3. Video from post #13 shows exactly standing still Mercury. It's origin now at 0,0,0 location. At f.e. 4,7,10,13 seconds you can see how Sun revolves around Mercury and that little black dot on yellow Sun is exactly Mercury.
  4. That's how everybody measure velocity of planets- using Sun as origin at rest, since Copernicus times.. Similar way is measured velocity of whole solar system around Milky Way center, and the all other stars. All your stars velocities in graph from 1st post are relative to center of our galaxy. Don't you know such basic things.. ?! The problem is, I can do that. And prove you wrong. Because it won't work the way you think it will work.. Planets will be wobbling back & forth. That's what greatly confused pre-Copernicus astronomers. Turn on Full HD in YT. It's just preview because I don't have whole week for rendering real animation. If I recall correctly previous solar system rendered 7-8 days.
  5. If we have planet with distance from the Sun like Earth d=150 mln km and it's pretty circle like orbit, then circumference (=path taken in one year) is roughly 2*PI*r (pretty basic math) 2*PI*150*10^6 / 365.25 / 24 / 3600 = 29.86 km/s So if we reverse it, and multiply velocity * time, we can get location of planet in future. How are you going to get 0.94 bln km distance Earth is doing every year, if its velocity is 70 km/s, not 29-30 km/s.. ? Couple notes: - distance from the Sun to object varies with time. The closest distance and farthest distances are called perihelion and aphelion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perihelion_and_aphelion - velocity of object varies with time. So distances and velocities (the real one) that you have in table in 1st post, are just averages! Year ago I made application which is generating solar system It's using perihelion, aphelion, velocity, orbital inclination.. Knowing these data and entering to app we can predict where each planet will be in a few minutes, few hours, days and years or million years in future. Show how you're predicting where each planet will be in future using yours data.
  6. Perform scientific experiment and show results.. ?
  7. Any living organism can assure you that photons exist They developed day life/night rest, a long time before developing any kind of eye. Presence of light = higher temperature than in night/darkness. You don't have to see whether there is day or night by naked eye. You can feel it by your skin. This statement alone is worth -1 vote.. Sound waves don't travel in cosmos at all. You can see & hear it by yourself watching any DIY rocket, like this one: The higher altitude rocket is, the less and less we can hear sound recorded by attached camera.. And in vacuum we can hear no sound at all. Lack of medium (=air) to propagate sound waves. At high altitudes of atmosphere particles are separated by great distance, atmosphere is vanishing. If you don't want to play with home made rockets, you can get vacuum pump. Place in container speaker generating sinus wave. And start sucking air by pump. Record from outside what sound is heard at what pressure.
  8. I didn't participate in this, but it seems quite rude comment. Replies should be unbiased, calm, reasonable, attractive, meaningful, useful, exploratory, revelatory.. See f.e. mine the first +3 rep points on this forum: http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/78975-plancks-electric-charge-factual-one/page-2#entry771461 In thread about electric charge, I pointed out that Max Planck didn't know what value has e constant at the time of he developed Planck units. Kramer was confused about what Planck charge is so different from elementary charge e. I was the first one to point out about dates when these two things were measured. That's revelatory for discussion, don't you think? Three people agreed with this thus gave vote up.
  9. fiveworlds, "browser calling home" means application is connecting to some server without user knowledge and will, for instructions. They can inject to user computer whatever they want, and he/she won't have any idea about it...
  10. Not O, but whole PO4 On right there is (PO4)2 So place 2 in front of H3PO4 and we're done 3Hg(OH)2+2H3PO4->Hg3(PO4)2+6H2O ps. Po is Polonium..
  11. Simple experimentation *) Anybody could came up with this if enough playing. *) I am doing it on daily basis. f.e. today noticed that couple (transparent) chemical compounds that I left alone couple months ago in hermetic containers turned color to cyan.. and other one has some fluffy gel (used to be transparent like water).. I will have to repeat everything from scratch couple times, and wait another half year for results.. Good that I at least wrote what compounds were used on containers..
  12. Potassium-40 is everywhere, including you, not just in Pacific ocean. 0.012% of any Potassium is radioactive. You can build Cloud Chamber and put inside K2O, KNO3, K2CO3 , KHCO3 or similar compound, and see their traces. KNO3 is used as synthetic fertilizer. Ground water washes it out from fields to rivers then to sea.
  13. Decay energy released by K-40: Isotope Potassium-40 Protons 19 Neutrons 21 Mass 39.964 Nucleus Energy 37216.5 [MeV] Alpha decay prohibited (-6.43826 MeV) Proton emission prohibited (-7.58196 MeV) Neutron emission prohibited (-7.79913 MeV) Potassium-40 -> Calcium-40 + e- + Ve + 1.31108 MeV Potassium-40 -> Argon-40 + e+ + Ve + 0.482698 MeV Potassium-40 + e- -> Argon-40 + Ve + 1.5047 MeV (all products stable) Decay energy released by Cs-137 Isotope Caesium-137 Protons 55 Neutrons 82 Mass 136.907 Nucleus Energy 127500 [MeV] Alpha decay prohibited (-3.08395 MeV) Proton emission prohibited (-7.40961 MeV) Neutron emission prohibited (-8.27782 MeV) Caesium-137 -> Barium-137 + e- + Ve + 1.17564 MeV Beta decay+ prohibited (-5.1881 MeV) Electron capture prohibited (-4.16611 MeV) (Ba-137m isomer quick decay, then Ba-137 stable) As you can see energy released by decay of K-40 releases slightly more energy than Cs-137.

    H2O

You misunderstood/ignored my post #2. H2O is boiling when we will get rid of atmosphere (thus pressure of gas particles). Like you can see here in vacuum chamber. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOYgdQp4euc So if we have planet with liquid water, and atmosphere. And something will destroy atmosphere, liquid water won't be liquid anymore, and its vapors will be also blow away (after all it's lighter molecule 18 g/mol, than N2 28 g/mol, or O2 32 g/mol).). H2SO4 sulfuric acid 98.078 g/mol (5.5 times more mass than water) SO3 sulfur trioxide 80.063 g/mol (4.4 times more mass than water) Higher mass = more energy needed to accelerate it enough to have escape velocity.
  15. I noticed pretty nice video digital camera with interval recording 1s-60s: http://store.sony.com/action-cam-with-live-view-remote-bundle-zid27-HDRAS200VR/W/cat-27-catid-All-Action-Cam This LCD preview screen on wristwatch-like is also very cool thing. Wondering at what max distance it's working. According to website "Control up to 5 Action Cam via phone1 or LiveView™ Remote" So you can have one wristwatch, and couple lab experiments going and recorded in one room, and switch between them and monitor their states from distance from second room..
  16. In electric car, which is future, you won't have. Acceleration = change of resistance (and thus change of current), or change of voltage (and thus change of current). Self driving car will look like this:
  17. Circle, sphere, line etc. are only at high enough distance/scale. At quantum level, circle would be made of single atoms, and wouldn't be circle anymore, but approximation of circle. Similar like circle on computer monitor screen is made of pixels. It just appears round from distance.
  18. I have yet another explanation of such quasi-welding. When you heat/cool object, its volume is changing, so do little roughness on it, and microscopic mountains on two surfaces jam together. After cooling down it's extremely hard to disconnect them. I am fighting with this everyday during distillation when two pieces of glass are nearly impossible to disconnect. Couple times thought glass will be lost.
  19. Devices like Penning trap http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penning_trap and magnetic trap http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_trap_%28atoms%29 could be used to hold it.
  20. In ancient world the most common was foot length. (calculation of Earth radius was done ~200 BC by Eratosthenes)
  21. And then you have: -5 * (-4) = -20 -5 * 4 = (also) -20 5 * (-4) = (also) -20 Only one would lead to positive result: 5 * 4 = 20
  22. If we have: [math]x * y = xy[/math] we can divide both sides by y: [math]x * y/y = \frac{xy}{y}[/math] and get: [math]x=\frac{xy}{y}[/math] f.e. [math]-5*(-4)=+20[/math] [math]-5=\frac{+20}{-4}[/math] [math]-5=-5[/math] (true) If you try the same with your assumption "If we assume that (-1) (-1)=-1 and (-2)(-2)=-4" it will fail. Left side of equation, won't match right side.
  23. Top sportswomen here said she is eating 6000 kcal per day. You would like to have muscles as she.. I was eating something 3000-4000 kcal (without counting 3-4 beers). And making 300 push ups/day (my record is 1000 or 1100 in a day) + a lot of other trainings. With constant BMI ~21 Currently day training is weight lifting 3600 kg in couple various exercises in series during whole day. Eat like Hercules: ...and work like Hercules: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0FWHtuli9A ..as long as you keep thinking about particles & quantum physics while doing all these exercises..

    H2O

    Since you're not willing to do scientific work, I will do it for you. Volume of sea is 1.3 bln km3 according to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean It's 1.3*10^18 m3 Density of water is 1 g/cm3 so 10^6 g/m3 m=1.3*10^18*10^6=1.3*10^24 grams Molar mass of water is 18 g/mol 1.3*10^24 g / 18 g/mol = 7.222*10^22 mol If Earth exists for 4.5 bln years, *365*24*3600s= 1.42*10^17 s 7.222*10^22 mol / 1.42*10^17 s = 508574 mol/s average rate of production of water per second. To create 1 mol of H2O there is needed 0.5 mol of Oxygen. So there is needed 254287 mol/s of O2 1 L of O2 gas has 0.0446 mol. So 254287 / 0.0446 = 5701505 L/s of Oxygen must be gone from atmosphere. It's 5701.505 m3 of pure Oxygen, per second. * 3600 * 24 = 0.49 km3 of Oxygen gone per day. 2.34 km3 of air losing its Oxygen. Plausible or not?
  25. It's called pair production. And it's known for 80 years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pair_production So not sure about what students you're talking about.. It requires a lot of energy. Half million more than has green photon. It's also known for ages. It's called annihilation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annihilation
