  1. Just to keep up-to-date the one who are not bothering with reading coronavirus news every day and calling it hysteria. From the all 328/329 US citizens evacuated from Japan and taken yet another time to quarantine in the military base in Texas, three positively diagnosed.. so far.. 14 were diagnosed in Japan after disembarking from the ship during travel to the airport. Raport from Diamond Princess. Compilation of US passengers relations. Which is completely devastating to Japan authorities and medical staff.. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/22/world/asia/coronavirus-japan-cruise-ship.html I am afraid that number of infected people in Japan will "fly through the roof" very soon...
  2. I am astonished and disappointed by you too.. so even you are not bothering with reading news from Wuhan, Hubei, China and world.. You even did not know what family I was talking about during reading my post! Unbelievable! (but you would probably know what rubbish D.T. wrote the last time on Twitter, right? Everybody lost mind on this world completely. Priorities completely up-side-down) https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/feb/18/coronavirus-kills-chinese-film-director-family-wuhan-covid-19 In this case fatality rate is not absolute function. Where you get y=f(x), with x depending on age, but it depends on availability of medical staff which will take care of person during illness.. Too many people will be infected = entire medical staff is a way too busy and tired of work to handle any more infected so infected patients are left alone and simply die.. Age of patient is meaningless if there is nobody to take care during illness.. Availability of medical staff depends on quantity of infected people. During annual flu only absolutely seriously ill are taken to hospitals. During this epidemic the all infected are taken to hospitals (which limits their availability to other patients).
  3. Even stock markets enterprise financial investors disagree with you.. China gov pumped 174 bln of USD, disallowed short-sale , disallowed selling stocks by large shareholder for six months.. ..they are BS world about quantity of infected and dead people.. ..not including cremated not hospitalised people in statistics..
  4. I was not attacking you personally but your attitude, to so serious subject as this one, which was (and still is) clearly disrespectful.. The same attitude had Wuhan and Hubei authorities just six weeks ago..
  5. There are almost entire families dead in China with death rate at 80%-90% (20% remaining just because one family member is studying on the West).. If annual flu attacks, it does not kill entire family in two weeks. So stop bullshitting about comparison to annual flu. As it makes you less and less credible.. Apparently you don't understand these numbers.. They were quarantined but still get infected and infecting others. Japan medics as soon as detected infected person were/are getting person outside of the ship to hospital. Still new 50 people were/are diagnosed per day.. In China there is so many infected, that hospitals are overcrowded and unable to handle so many people. If infected person is not immediately separated and hospitalized, he or she is dead. Ill person cannot walk, talk, work, go to shop for food. Have you seen videos with people losing consciousness on the street and failing and lying down on the ground? Lonely living person might die not because illness wins but because nobody could care him or her during illness and dies due to exhaustion. It is just a matter of escalation. Wuhan hospitals are full of people lying down everywhere on floors and crematoriums are unable to handle the all dead cases.. Japanese could handle it just because they at the moment have enough medics and staff to take care of ill people. Did you have math in primary school? What will happen if number of ill people will exceed medical staff human possibilities to help others? Wuhan medical staff is exhausted already. Dead rate will "fly through the roof" (your 0.3% is just temporary, and just because there is still enough medical staff). I am totally astonished by your incompetence... Apparently it is very funny subject to laugh on loud on scientific forum...
  6. Ridiculous comment.. At which point would you become smarter? Update from Diamond Princess: over 620 infected (from 3700). Two weeks ago (5 February) there was just.. 1.. the next day 10. the next day 20. the next day 61.. These numbers grow now over 50 per day. Nearly 400 Americans from the ship were taken to US awaiting yet another two weeks quarantine in America. So far two people from the ship died.
  7. C'mon guys. It was meant to be SERIOUS thread about water shortage problem in California and similar regions of the Earth, and how to solve it, and you are derailing it by art and sculptures.... Apparently you own too much and you never have been hungry.... so you can't be serious while replying in such serious thread...
  8. They are poisonous.. "Apricot kernels can cause potentially fatal cyanidepoisoning when consumed. Symptoms include nausea, fever, headaches, insomnia, increased thirst, lethargy, nervousness, various aches and pains in joints and muscles, and a drop in blood pressure." https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apricot_kernel They are eatable only in small amounts.
  9. If you are referring to Diamond Princess pasangers only negatively tested will fly to US and they will have yet another 14 days quarantine.. The major risk are not the one with symptoms, but the one missing visible and detectable symptoms..
  10. During formation of the Solar System there have been many proto planets collisions. One of such collisions created the Earth and the Moon as we know but Moon was much closer to the Earth. Yes. Also presence of the Moon stabilized and slowed down rotation of the Earth. It is not wobbling.
  11. Human could not swim upwards, against the waterfall. The body is too weak for such a task. But some fishes do it at least once in their lives e.g. salmon must return from the sea to the river in which it was born. And they must to swim upstream waterfalls. Search net for keywords salmon and waterfall for videos how they do it.
  12. I am using my balcony as refrigerator during true winter (hard to get one these days).. After shopping e.g. beers and meat land on my balcony (there is -5 C at the moment). Before refrigerator has been created people used ice houses https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_house_(building) which costed nothing to operate except a while of work to gather ice. ps. Typical house electronic and electric devices are not designed to operate in cold and/or humid environment..
  13. How about different approach: instead of searching for a way to increase power production, search for a way to reduce current power usage? Households in hotter regions of the Earth significant amount of electrical energy use on air conditioning and refrigeration of food. Households in the colder regions of the Earth use significant amounts of energy to heat homes during the winter. Decrease of power usage for TV and computers has been already done by migration to LCD/LED/OLED and to laptops (from power consuming CRT and plasma). So, limit energy used for air conditioning and refrigeration, and you will get the same effect as increased power production, with increased demand for power. See an example of some e-books smart displays. Instead of using power for continuous sustaining display, energy is used only for switching different pixels between one page and another page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_paper Personally, I am for turning streets to one large solar panels new generation with built-in electromagnets. They could produce energy and immediately transport it to vehicles flying slightly above them due to magnetic repulsion between streets and vehicles. Mass of cars would be minimal without full size tank nor full size accumulators. Without friction with road, energy spend on acceleration would be much smaller than now. To decelerate/brake there could be used KERS or similar system converting kinetic energy to electrical energy.
  14. There is couple different types of supernovas. e.g. Supernova explosion can be result of collapse. Star's core runs out of fuel which can readily fuse. Iron atom cannot fuse with other iron atom at low temperatures as it is highly endothermic reaction. Therefor outer layers of star are no longer pushed away by particles created by core during regular fusion, and they collapse toward core. During this stage particles of outer layers accelerate to significant velocities gaining kinetic energy (prior explosion super giant star can have hundred millions kilometers diameter). When they hit core, or other particles from outer layers, explosion of supernova begins.. Do you agree with this? If you disagree, with this type of supernova, explain with details. Kepler's Supernova was in 1604. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kepler's_Supernova In 1572 there was supernova: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SN_1572 In 1885 there was supernova in Andromeda galaxy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SN_1885A Wikipedia article of SN 1572 reveals origin of name of supernova. Tycho Brahe on stellar map and in his book called it "nova stella" (new star). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_nova_stella
  15. Is that example of lack of free will? i.e. somebody forced you to have better feeling.. ?
  16. "bad day" had dinosaurs ~ 65 millions years ago when they extinct..
  17. ..some people after natural or unnatural disaster, accident, death of family member, say "God's will!" or "Allah's will!" (which is the same)... so, apparently, they are disagreeing with you..
  18. Some fungi, microorganisms, parasites take control over mind of higher level organisms turning them to e.g. "zombie ant". Like for example Ophiocordyceps unilateralis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ophiocordyceps_unilateralis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behavior-altering_parasite https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxoplasma_gondii "In humans, T. gondii is one of the most common parasites in developed countries;[7][8] serological studies estimate that 30–50% of the global population has been exposed to and may be chronically infected with T. gondii," "T. gondii has been shown to alter the behavior of infected rodents in ways that increase the rodents' chances of being preyed upon by felids.[11][15][16] Support for this "manipulation hypothesis" stems from studies showing T. gondii-infected rats have a decreased aversion to cat urine." "A number of studies have suggested that subtle behavioral or personality changes may occur in infected humans,[22] and infection with the parasite has recently been associated with a number of neurological disorders, particularly schizophrenia[16] and bipolar disorder.[23][24] A 2015 study also found cognitive deficits in adults to be associated with joint infection by both T. gondii and Helicobacter pylori in a regression model with controls for race-ethnicity and educational attainment.[25] Although a causal relationship between latent toxoplasmosis with these neurological phenomena has not yet been established,[9][16] preliminary evidence suggests that T. gondii infection may induce some of the same alterations in the human brain as those observed in mice.[26][27]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxoplasma_gondii#Behavioral_differences_of_infected_hosts
  19. Who would have thought that cartoon can teach you something...
  20. @koti Galactic offworlders have specific sense of humour. Off this world. Human can laugh from getting lost in mall, hotel etc. and turn it to anecdote for friends and family. Offworlder can laugh from getting lost in space.
  21. Good reason to learn astronomy... Don't get lost in space..
  22. You are not using correctly ordered names, so auto-fill/auto-completion cannot work. I am using it every day. In Android Studio (Java) OTOH if you start writing e.g. "permission", IDE is searching this term also inside of name and make it bold. e.g. main_error_insufficient_permissions (so actually it would be sufficient to enter "pe" or "per" to limit list of available results, and pick the right one from drop-down list).
  23. Yes.. when you have to horizontally scroll text to be able to read them all.. Some prefer "reverse notation".. e.g. main_error_insufficient_permissions so other "main_" strings/variables/classes etc. are listed in alphabetically sorted order together in IDE, and other "main_error_" are listed in sorted order together in IDE, etc.etc. If you have human natural language order, they would be all mixed together. "main" is place where is used specified string (in Android app), "error" is what is subject of specified string. e.g. you have class which has name PasswordEditText, so prefix will be "passwordedittext_" and the all its strings grouped together in strings.xml This has to help them listed together due to sorting algorithm in IDE (auto-fill/auto-completion feature of IDE).
  24. @Raider5678 Absolutely. Descriptive variable names, descriptive class names, descriptive structure names, descriptive constants etc. etc. are essential for readable and maintainable in the future source code.. ps. Example from my yesterday project: context.getString( R.string.voiceedittext_speech_error_insufficient_permissions ); .... I don't need to comment, I hope so..
