Would string theory have any corrections to the basic inverse square relationship ? String theory projects 11 dimensional space ( 4 basic + 7 curled up dimensions ). Would there imply some delta-correction to the conventionally accepted norm ? I wonder ?

Is happiness chemical or more subtle ? Why are some people "happy" with bare essentials and others unsatisfied with excesses ? Is there something more to this than meets the eye ? Please opine.....

I mean the paradigm is all 0 inclusive to include all transverse waves (of all wavelengths).

Why is the inverse square law exponentiated to the power 2 ? Why not 3, 4, 5 etc ? And why is it universal ? Please explain.

Does dark energy obey Einsteins mass-energy equation E = mc2,, I was just curious to know ? If it does then how ? Thanks in advance.

As we all know refraction splits while light into its component colors. Within a prism light is reduced in speed from its normal velocity to a lower velocity. Does this velocity differ for different color components of white light ? (VIBGYOR). If so, is this evident in the output of different frequencies from a prism (colors in white light) ?

Beethoven...
petrushka.googol replied to petrushka.googol's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
My own rather far fetched conclusion : I think Beethoven suffered from bipolar disorder which in turn was co-related with his arrythmias (tachycardias corresponding to manic states and bradycardias corresponding to depressive states) . This produced his "eccentric streak", as it were. This can also be seen in personalities like Van Gogh and Leonardo da Vinci although, but whether they also experienced arrythmias is doubtful. The common theme in all these cases is the enhanced creativity of the person concerned, as is evident. -
I read an article that stated that the legendary composer Ludwig Von Beethoven had cardiac arrhythmias and this came across in his compositions. (in terms of creativity...) Is there some causative link between the two ? Please opine.

How far is intelligence quotient a true barometer of intelligence ? This is a question that has often intrigued me. Any pointers ?

Does regular aerobic exercise actually switch on and off certain gene expression ? I noticed a reference to the same in the local news....

It is more or less symbiotic...one triggers the other which accentuates the former. To quote from your reference : For more than 40 years, Paul Ekman has supported the view that emotions are discrete, measurable, and physiologically distinct. Ekman's most influential work revolved around the finding that certain emotions appeared to be universally recognized, even in cultures that were preliterate and could not have learned associations for facial expressions through media. Another classic study found that when participants contorted their facial muscles into distinct facial expressions (e.g. disgust), they reported subjective and physiological experiences that matched the distinct facial expressions. His research findings led him to classify six emotions as basic: anger, disgust, fear, happiness, sadness and surprise. This is the gist of my assertion.....only the number of emotions enunciated by me differs.

http://www.humintell.com/2010/06/the-seven-basic-emotions-do-you-know-them/ As an illustration of motor response : The clenched hands/fist is tension caused by anxiety and stress. It's the same if someone bites down hard on their teeth when their mouth is closed, or taps their feet etc.

In the words of Deepak Chopra "Meditation makes the entire nervous system go into a field of coherence".Would this be a realistic assertion in the light of our current knowledge about the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system ? Would then this field have quantum field properties?
-
What exactly are emotions and can we quantify them ? I would define emotion as the motor expression of nervous impulses. eg) anger / mirth etc. Scientists have tried to quanify emotions and while earlier it was thought that there were 3 different flavours, now it has been revised to 7. It this a realistic model ?

The benefits of the research far outweigh the deleterious effects. Besides even if you consider the ethical issues involved vis-a-vis surrogacy for example it leaves less scope for the religious right to resort to pandemonium, if you read between the lines, as cloning merely endorses what nature has already provided unlike surrogacy which is a moot subject.

order and entropy....
petrushka.googol replied to petrushka.googol's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
Strings are to modern physics what atoms were to Dalton. They exist at the Planck length (as far as i have read the concept) and are indivisible (just like atoms were in the pristine model). It is not so much a paradigm shift as a different way of looking at the same thing. -
Even IVF and test tube babies are of recent vintage. Having children by the conventional way does not guarantee genetic normalcy (genetic defects are present even in offspring born of man and wife.). Altough this will be by far the most popular way of propagating one's identity, I see some cases where due to the genetic abnormalities (or physical) in one partner, or the ethical issues involved in surrogacy, for cloning as a means for infertile couples to have children as is correctly pointed out.

How far away are we from human cloning ? And is it really ethical if we reach this ? Please express your opinions. (taking into account social mores / scientific hurdles / religious restrictions etc.)

order and entropy....

My questions : Would pure energy or its equivalent mass be of greater entropy (although both are manifestations of the same thing).? Is a pure vacuum at higher entropy that a space with uniform energy density across its magnitude ?
