  1. "It was the best of times....it was the worst of times."
  2. Sleeping is fun for me, is it not fun for you? You have never experienced the freedom to pursue your interests?
  3. Only when nights are very cold would you be comfortable sleeping in your car with no ventilation at all. On most nights, you would prefer fresh air circulating through your car, and you would usually not leave your windows open while you sleep, unless you are parked in a very secure place. I have an SUV with a moon roof which I leave open 1/2 inch always, except when it looks like rain, and my 2 rear windows open about 1/2 inch. That helps in hot weather, but not enough. It takes a dedicated criminal to break a car window to enter and steal the car or anything inside the car. An open window is an invitation to any opportunist. And close to 100% of stolen cars don't have someone sleeping inside. Thieves are usually avoiding contact with people.
  4. When left to their own devices, dogs and cats like to have fun. Sorry for the word "inferior", not a good choice. What would you rather do, be in a vegetative state or have the freedom to persue your interests?
  5. What is next above us are extraterrestrials. Assuming an ET civilization has the technology that allows them to travel to Earth and watch over us. They could be here in hiding, in the deep oceans, even inside abandoned warehouses. If their technology is sophisticated enough they could evade us very well. Except maybe getting captured on camera once in a while, but nothing definitive.
  6. Did you ever have a dog or cat? You learn from them that what living beings naturally do is have fun.
  7. No, you cannot just open the windows, because then you are not secure. If I am taking a nap in my car on my lunch break, or if someone is homeless or camping and sleeping in their car at night, I would rather the windows be closed so a thief will not be able to enter my car and steal from me or hurt me.
  8. No, avoiding junk food is only easy for you, and maybe some others. The OP is someone who LIKES junk foods. You don't, so you don't get to participate and merely criticize someone for their problem, since you have no trouble with junk foods. I like junk foods, hell yes, but I don't allow myself to eat them, and I do that by avoiding contact with them. I also change the channel on TV when the commercial is trying to induce me to eat some delicious, high-calorie foods, with added sugar, salt, and fat.
  9. Sorry, please explain what you mean? I'm certainly not mad at you or anyone. What leads you to think I am? I am in total agreement with your statement, and was reinforcing your post "people's fears aren't being addressed" by the democrats. Exactly!
  10. Generally speaking, to merely "exist", as in a vegetative state, or a prisoner in solitary confinement, seems inferior to "live" which is what living beings naturally do.
  11. Yes, and Clinton was too stupid to NOT address peoples' fears and to not quickly counter deluded claims. From her experience, she was overqualified to be president, but alas.... a lousy campaigner, with that goofy look of a first grade teacher. Trump was very clever to satisfy a demand, in economic terms, and be a cartoon character. The question is how long until enough republicans get off the crazy train?
  12. In the simplest terms I can think of, the purpose of life is to get better. Evolution is the way life gets better, or adapts better, to the changing environment. So my purpose in life is to get better at whatever is of interest to me.
  13. Great topic, thank you! I haven't read any of the above yet, but the question is compelling and I wanted to jump in to try to answer it first, read other answers later. We are HOW we eat. How we eat includes what we eat, how much, when to eat, what combinations of foods, how much we drink, , etc, etc. Junk foods are generally engineered to be extra palatable, extra delicious with added sugar, salt, and fat. That makes them hard to stop eating. That contributes to the fact that 1/3 of Americans are overweight (or is it obese ?, I forget the exact term). Healthy foods have a subtler taste that becomes more pronounced when you allow yourself to get very hungry. Nothing wrong with skipping a meal or two, just don't make up for it by eating double at the next meal. That is the key. Eliminating junk food from your diet is a great idea that many people cannot accomplish. The way to do it is to fill up on healthy foods so you won't be tempted. Also drink lots of water so you are not dehydrated. You can be dehydrated without knowing it. Don't shop while hungry, and just don't buy junk foods. Out of sight means out of mind. Be healthy!! My job in retirement, at my age of 62, is to eat healthy, drink lots of water, and exercise every day. I jog 2 km around my neighborhood almost every morning. I love the sweet smell of the early morning air.
  14. Ok, I give up. I'm no engineer or chemist. My areas of experience are accounting and art. Maybe a swamp cooler that uses some other liquid than water? Cars are everywhere on Earth now. The person who figures out the passive car cabin cooler retrofit will be a great international hero. All that is required is rendering a car impossible to kill a normal healthy person, baby, or pet, on the average hot summer day. It does not need to be COOL inside, it only needs to be NOT deadly. And what the heck, Billions of people could even take naps in their car on their lunch break, when the weather is 96 degrees in the shade. I give up on this problem, and I hope someone comes up some day with a great idea and design, an inexpensive fix to the problem of deadly heat exhaustion inside cars.
  15. What Trump and Hitler have in common is a genius at pulling people into their own delusion. They can be totally wacked on a subject, but they have such conviction in their delusion that others join in with zeal. He can say the most rediculous things and his 35% following give him a pass because Trump is a brilliant con artist telling them what they want to hear.
  16. This is a question I haven't heard answered. Can anyone answer it? Fox News often repeats this mantra. Would there be evidence of the Trump campaign's collusion with Russia, available to the general public, considering the investigations have been going on for a year already? I would guess any evidence would have been confiscated by the investigations, and we would not know about it. Or is it a reasonable argument against collusion? Is it reasonable to suppose that such evidence would inevitably leak out? We are told the investigations may take a year or longer. Can nothing be revealed to the public until the investigations reach conclusions?
  17. That is only if you park after the asphalt is very hot. If the car was parked long enough, especially overnight, the air under the car will be cooler because it was in the shade. But that is not good enough, because in the heat of the day the air under the car will be used up in a few minutes, so surrounding hot air will get sucked under the car. That is why I propose retractable "skirts" around the car that interferes a little with hot air getting under the car. The skirt could automatically unwind, like a window blind, but it does not create a perfect seal preventing air from getting under the car, just slows air flow down so the air under the car has time to cool for a while, before it gets sucked up into the swamp cooler before entering the car under the seats. All the while hot air is expelled through the ceiling vent.
  18. The air is hottest in direct sunshine. Under the car is shade. Much cooler air in the shade. However, you are right, because as soon as the cool air under the car is sucked up into the car, that will quickly pull the hot air, that was baking in the hot sun, right under and into the car. So that is why a solar powered swamp cooling system, passing air through a radiator device would help. Maybe also a "skirt" around the bottom of the car, that unrolls when the passive system is working, but rolls back up when the car is driven. That would restrict the free flow of air from the sunshine to under the car and allow the air under the car to cool off more.
  19. Yes, their relative motion prevents them from falling together into one giant star. Motion is also what prevents all the stars in a galaxy from falling into one giant star.
  20. Then can there be violent movement of superhot matter, which is not a plasma but whatever, inside the event horizon of a black hole? Or is the region between the event horizon and the singularity totally empty?
  21. That will work also. But the MOST effective design for moving air through the car would be an exhaust vent at the highest point, the ceiling, and intake vents at the lowest points, beneath the front and rear seats.
  22. That is not correct. We were successfully conned by a world class con artist. A "moron" would not be as successful in his plans. We voted for, and elected, a delusional.
  23. A black hole is contained, compressed plasma, I think, and between the inner and outer event horizons I heard could be the most violent state in the universe. That is if I remember the documentary correctly.
  24. I also had one in my car window, but it is very weak. A factory installed system, with ceiling exhaust vent and floor intake vents, could be a magnitude more robust at moving air through the car. There could also be a retrofit kit, which requires cutting a 3" diameter hole in the roof, with baffle facing rear so as not to catch rain or act as an air scoop (like a p-51) while driving at 60mph. And also cutting a couple of holes in the floor for intake vents. A swamp cooler could be attached to the undercarriage and simply route the air intake through a radiator to cool the air before it enters the car. The water reservoir could be filled through the trunk. When the water supply is used up the cooler still works, just not as effectively.
  25. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DONALD! You are now under criminal investigation for obstruction of justice. Have an extra piece of birthday cake. You deserve it. http://www.npr.org/2017/06/14/532985377/report-trump-under-investigation-for-possible-obstruction-of-justice
