"Rope?" How about an excess number of extra strong cables for redundancy? Even if a micro-meteor takes out a cable, there are several more to take it's place.

Her biggest weakness is the goofy look she gets on her face, wide eyes and ginning. Saturday Night Live has her goofy look down pat. Someone should tell her to tone it down. Before she speaks to a group she comes out looking like a kindergarten teacher ready to address a room of kids. Hillary needs to get a presidential look before she starts speaking. Also she needs to refrain from jerking her head around like an epileptic seizure.

So you think there will be no artificial gravity during the trips to and from Mars for the first manned mission?

When Trump met with the president of Mexico he did some serious kissing up to his hosts. He called Mexicans a spectacular, SPECTACULAR people. When is the last time you heard anyone call a group of people "spectacular"? Is that even a word to describe a class or group of people? Who puts a superlative label on a race or group of people? Maybe Hitler would call Aryans a "spectacular" master race. This shows Trump's racism which is deeply ingrained inside of him. Who do you think Trump REALLY thinks is spectacular? Not the Mexicans of course, but rather Himself. He has such an extreme narcissism, a level rarely seen, that he would certainly describe himself as spectacular. He often MAKES himself a SPECTACLE intentionally. He has the spectacular hair of a TV evangelist, his voice gets that lion roar of a fire-and-brimstone faith healer. He has the prominent Churchill-gut bulging out. He looks like a cartoon character, Butthead from Bevis and Butthead. Look at his tiny eyes, the big hair, the other manicured facial features. He looks like Butthead, and when he smiles and claps for himself at his rallies he resembles the North Korean dictator showing great pleasure in Himself. And the N.Korean dictator is in favor of Trump too. So His visit to Mexico resembles a guy visiting his neighbor. He goes to his neighbor's house and says "I'm going to build a wall between our properties and you are going to pay for it (even if you don't know it yet). You are a spectacular people. I am very humane. Thank you, good bye"."

Today I saw an MSNBC story about the southern border. Of the nearly 2,000 miles of border only about 700 is fenced. However the border guard interviewed said that the unfenced border is patrolled very well by chopper, and guards on off-road vehicles, and high tech sensors. So from that it seems like a wall is superflous, really unnecessary.
-
If the US did build a wall, which side of the Rio Grande River would it be on? Of the current fence, how much of it is on the US side of the river? If net migration to the US from south of the border is negative, why have ANY kind of barrier between US and Mexico? How long will net-negative immigration across that southern border continue? Should the southern border be as imaginary as the US/Canada border? I suppose if a wall or "smart-double-fence" was built, then the criminal or terrorist element which is the main problem, would find another way into the US. It would just be more inconvenient, and they could resort to submarines. There is no mention of ILLEGAL immigration in your article. Of those number, how many are illegal? It just says "net migration", no mention of illegal or even criminal. Criminals, or even just illegals, will probably not answer polls truthfully.
-
Why is he always saying he's going to build a WALL? What's wrong with the smart-double-fence? I cannot copy and paste now for some unknown reason. Anyone ever have that problem, the inability to copy and paste anything? I Google searched "border wall or fence" and found an interesting double fence with a roadway between the two. The fence is very tough and thick, I think up to about 10 feet then another 5 feet in height of regular fence, then it should be topped with razor wire. There is a ditch before the fence to prevent a heavy vehicle from crashing into the fence and there is an 8' high pile of razor wire before the ditch. (I'd rather have the ditch first and the razor wire after the ditch.) The fence has infrared detectors, motion sensors, all the newest technology for detecting people approaching the fence or people digging under it. You can also have predator drones patrolling the fence with infrared cameras. When people are detected approaching the fence, a patrol is sent along the center roadway. So how is a wall superior? https://doctorbulldog.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/border-fence.jpg Trump keeps saying he is going to get rid of all the criminal illegal aliens. So that implies that the Obama admin knows about criminal illegal aliens and for no good reason not throwing them out of the country. So when Trump becomes president, that is going to change. Why don't the dems fight back immediately by saying that any known criminal illegal aliens, with evidence for their crimes, ARE being thrown out. If not why not?

Maybe Hillary Clinton will shoot herself in the foot during the debates, and NEW skeletons come out of her closet. Trump could become the next president. Then it happens, a dozen of the world's biggest cities are destroyed by nuclear weapons by who-knows-who. A terrorist group. Everyone goes into martial law. Then Trump can create crises and use his blunt diplomacy methods to get the nukes flying around. That would cause a serious population decline.

Excellent summary of the prior week. Trump cannot release his income taxes because they are "under audit." It was suggested he could release a previous year, but the previous years tax returns are linked to his current, 2015 returns, so he cannot release those. So why can he not release MOST of the prior year and just omit any connection to the current year? Has anyone heard him claim WHEN approximately the audit of his tax returns will be done and he can release the returns? He is 70 years old and seems like the most obnoxiously, narcissistic, presidential candidate of modern times. Would such a person care very much that the world continues beyond their very important life? The world we know could end because of a war created by a Trump temper tantrum? Does an extremely narcissistic person care very much if the world ends when they die? Hitler is an example. Hitler issued a "Nero Decree" that Germany should totally self-destruct because he was planning to shoot himself.

Those are good points about higher educated women as a determining factor. Crowded is a good term to describe the biggest cities in Japan, and they now have low population growth. Noticeable effects will always be the main diving forces. Also climate change magnifies the situation. Climate change is a reality that will drive tens or hundreds of millions of people inland when oceans rise. This will lead to wars over land and water. Population control is "triggered" without our intention.

Sounds like a great idea! We have 2 different problems, one is how to have one g on the trip to and from Mars, the other is a distant future plan for a large-enough centrifuge under the surface of Mars which is a much more complicated problem. It seems like Carrock's idea is a practical solution for the trip to and from Mars.

Anyone know why Trump chose to play the Rolling Stones song "You Can't Always Get What You Want" at the end of the GOP convention? It looks like he is saying "I may not be what you WANT but if you work hard ("if you try some time") I am what you need."
-
General public awareness may be the best form of effective control of population. You said it yourself, the more people are educated, the less children they have. We just haven't yet noticed how large the population is. When we do we will begin to experience social problems exacerbated by overpopulation. "Perhaps people begin to feel too close and slow the birth rate" Right, when it "feels crowded" people will respond.

In all the documentaries I've ever seen about a manned Mars mission, I missed any mention of having the spacecraft rotate creating 1 g. Are the first Mars astronauts just going to get used to zero g's on the trip there and back, and obviously only the small Martian gravity? Seems like over a 2-year mission, there would be significant bone weakening. Over the long term they should be able to build a giant centrifuge under ground, probably inside a lava tube. It would resemble a giant merri-go-round in the park, but the floor would be angled inward to compensate for the rotation. Then maybe the combined g forces on people would be the Mars tiny gravity, plus the centrifugal force from rotation adding up to 1 g. Could you please explain how a Coriolis force would be experienced inside the centrifuge?

"If you've got nothing, you have nothing to lose." Did this quote originally come from Bob Dillan? Anyhow Trump kept repeating this speaking to African Americans from the safety of a 95% white neighborhood. "What do you have to lose?" So Trump is supposing that most African American people have NOTHING, so why not try the Trump option? Because if Trump creates crises at every step, the way he has so far, he is probably going to continue to create crises. And there may be a nuclear war and black people may lose everything, along with the whites and all other kinds of people. So "What the hell do you have to lose?" You already don't have hardly anything, so even if I screw up and destroy everything, it's ok because you didn't have very much to begin with. "WHAT THE HELL DO YOU HAVE TO LOSE?" Indeed, what do WE have to lose? Just life, just the planet, just everything.

Sorry that my postings sounded berating. I apologize and I give up. Nothing more from me about my crazy "M Quote Theory" unless someone here asks me about it. I'm going to write it up in detail and see if Rachel Maddow is interested, probably not since I am delusional in this regard. I think we have to agree that when we hear that interview with NBC and we see the arrogant, stern-Nazi-look Trumpf gets on his face when he says "I don't care if Mussolini or anybody else said it" that makes us all want to vomit, right?

Please provide for us the motto of Seal Team and the Ben Franklin quotes so we can decide how different they are from the Mussolini quote. I don't know anything about those other quotes, so could you please point us in that direction? The quote from Captain America has morality throughout. You made the fallacy of equating the motto from Seal Team and a supposed quote from Franklin with the Mussolini quote which is obviously amoral, it just says "lion good, sheep bad". I never intended to equate the M quote for the ISIS motto. I suggested a probable motto for ISIS is something like "better to live one day as an ISIS suicide bomber than 100 years under the subjugation of the infidels." I don't have a clue what the real ISIS motto is and I still doubt you can support your claims. You first brought up the Seal Team and Ben Franklin. It's all new to me. EDIT: I just looked up "Navy SEALS" in Wikipedia and it says the mottos are: "The only easy day was yesterday", and "It pays to be a winner." Neither of those sound amoral to me. If you read the words it says "better to live one day like a lion" (how does a lion live for one day? According to science it kills as much as it can to eat and other reasons, and then dies at the end of the ONE day.) "...than to live 100 years like A sheep" (how does a single sheep live for 100 years? It is a magical sheep that suffers not. You are not reading carefully but rather suppose that the M quote is the same as the Navy Seal motto (which I looked up on Wikipedia is totally unrelated see my previous edit above) and we don't know anything about Ben Franklin. The Captain America quote (thank you for that) sounds moral to me, don't you agree?
-
It matters so much because the M quote is amoral. This means Trump is also amoral, because he did not NOTICE that the M quote is amoral. Be scientific and objective. Don't bring your subjective bias, your prejudice to the quote. Nothing about freedom, liberty, truth, or the American Way in the M quote. The quotes are VERY different even though they sounds similar. "Lion = good, and sheep = bad" is your prejudice. Lions are what lions do, they kill anyone to eat, also a male kills other males for mating privileges, and he even kills baby lions so the mother will mate with him. Trump imagines himself the lion without thinking too much about it. Lions are not good and sheep are not bad. But the sheep in the quote is not an ordinary sheep. It is A sheep that magically lives for 100 years! It is not being slaughtered for food every day, perhaps has its wood sheered every summer, but what's wrong with that? And Trump didn't even notice that! I need to send this theory to Rachel Maddow, if she will only listen.
-
Why do you so easily equate all those quotes? They are NOT the same, only similar. The Seal Team, Ben Franklin, and the Captain America quotes are ALL substantially different from the Mussolini quote. Mussolini said nothing about freedom or liberty or truth, or standing for what you believe in. Just a lion lives for one day and the sheep lives for 100 years (L > S logically), lions kill quickly and the lion in the quote dies at the end of one day (just like Mussolini) and the single sheep goes on living for 100 years. Do you have the EXACT Seal Team motto or the exact Franklin quote? Slogans matter and a short quote can be analyzed. Any psychologists out there have any opinions about the M quote?
-
Then Trump should have quoted directly from the Navy Seals or Ben Franklin. The Mussolini quote was not a gaff or poor choice of words, it shows how he thinks, it remains a road map to Trump's mind. He likens himself to the lion, not someone "fighting for freedom" or "fighting for essential liberty". We all know Mussolini was fighting AGAINST freedom. Sheep are eaten routinely, but they also live a considerable time contributing their wool for our benefit, a noble occupation. And the "sheep" in the quote is said to live for "100 years" which cannot happen if the sheep is eaten anytime soon. So does the logical argument L > S (Lion > Sheep) ring true? Then this morning I heard Trump express his teleprompter "regrets" AFTER he qualifies his regrets by making it sound reasonable for him to choose the wrong words, like anyone else in his position would have done the same when faced with as much adversity as he has.
-
Very interesting. Those mottos are similar, very nice, refined, and rational. I agree they are very good quotes. However, the quote from Mussolini has a crude, ambiguous edge to it. That ambiguity appeals to Trump. "One day like a lion is better than 100 years like a sheep." Nothing elevating about freedom or liberty, just law of the jungle, just kill and die in one day. And that is roughly the life story of Mussolini who was a very poor philosopher, but good enough for Trump.
-
The quote is essentially the motto of ISIS. It's better to live one day as a suicide bomber and be martyred fighting for a just cause, than to live 100 years subjugated by the infidels.
-
The quote makes sense only when accompanied by the nice qualifiers you presented. Like the Jews going peacefully like sheep into the death camps. The quote says "live 100 years like sheep" means LIVING takes place for 100 years, not a bad thing eh? I'd like to live in peace for 100 years, wouldn't you? "Trump Digs Coal" "Trump Digs Nuclear War" That is the logical message that comes out of the quote. Do I need to go on CNN and make my case for them? When the NBC reporter questioned Trump about if he wanted to be associated with Mussolini, noteworthy is Trump didn't care if Mussolini said it. That means that Mussolini is not so bad. It was painfully stupid the NBC reporter could not think a little and follow up with a few more questions about the ACTUAL WORDS! My amateur observation is the figurative meaning of the quote is very negative, deeply EVIL, inhuman, and insane. Anyone who thinks the quote is "a very good quote" is certifiably insane.
-
Good question, let's examine the quote. "It is better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as sheep". Do you notice how Trump thinks it is better to live as a lion for ONE DAY than for 100 YEARS as sheep? A lion lives violently killing other animals to survive. Sheep that have 100 YEARS of life (which is much longer than their actual life span) grazing in the lovely, green meadows are at PEACE. Would YOU rather live one day like a lion or 100 years like sheep? Remember at the end of the day the lion dies violently, because how else can a lion die in one day? Many people can die in one day due to weapons of mass destruction. Is that a good enough explanation? I'm sorry that I am not an expert at politics, but in my opinion this quote is potentially worse for Trump than the "second amendment people" doing anything about Clinton AFTER she gets elected. This quote surfaced in early July and since then I watch a lot of cable news (far more than 10 Oz does) and I heard the second amendment people gaff a dozen times and NEVER heard the Mussolini quote not even once. Doesn't Trump come across like the Anti-Christ? Can anyone find parallels between the classic Anti-Christ of the Bible (Trumps favorite book of all time) and Donald Trump? I disagree. Many undecided voters may be swayed by the quote, IF it was pumped up in the media more. The actual interview makes me want to vomit.

Anyone know if the first manned missions to Mars will have artificial gravity during the long voyage to and from Mars? It seems simple to have a spacecraft designed to rotate and create one g. At least while they are sleeping or their free time they can relax in a one g environment. Is that possible? Anyone know if a centrifuge can be built on the surface of Mars or the Moon where the crew can sleep, or even recreate, in a one g environment?
