This is almost an impossible question to answer because we're taking something as fuzzy as ethnicity and using it to predict something as discrete and specific as eye color and hair color. This is further complicated with the fact that ethnicity is also a product of culture, so we're taking about a social-cultural concept and using it to predict something biological like eye color. "Ethnicity is the cultural characteristics that connect a particular group or groups of people to each other. 'Ethnicity' is sometimes used as a euphemism for "race", or as a synonym for minority group. While ethnicity and race are related concepts, the concept of ethnicity is rooted in the idea of societal groups, marked especially by shared nationality, tribal afilliation, religious faith, shared language, or cultural and traditional origins and backgrounds, whereas race is rooted in the idea of biological classification of homo sapiens to subspecies according to morphological features such as skin color or facial characteristics." Below is a list of ethnic groups: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ethnic_groups

How does an economy being labor intensive result in lower economic returns? In Australia at least there is empirical evidence that immigration has a positive effect on the economy, even with unskilled labor. In America the effect is positive but, from what I hear, negligible, not often negative, even though the skill level of immigrants into America are lower, because the American labor market is a lot more flexible and relatively less generous in terms of welfare. But definitely bringing in more PhDs will help. Fair enough. The labor owners wouldn't care who they hire so long as they get someone. But realisitically, such a policy seems too cruel for most people and will never become a reality.

Are any of you worried about how much pornography there is out there? It's fine to believe in free speech. But consider that 80% of school students have accidentally stumbled upon porn while on the Internet. Consider that many young people are mimicking what they see in pornography on their young friends. Even though Internet censorship is very difficult, don't you think some effort needs to be made? Or will this effort be fruitless?

I know this may not be the most exciting subject for many of you, but what do you think of predatory pricing? Do you support the view by the CATO Institute that predatory pricing is a myth (or a "conspiracy theory against big business," as they put it). Or it it real? How should it be dealt with?

I thought Marxism was old stuff. Wasn't the Labor Theory of Value disproven?

And even if there are, who cares? It depends on a number of factors, such as immigrant skills, the resources the host country is endowed with, etc. But more often than not, immigration is good (just not all the time). Immigration is essentially an issue of free trade because immigration is simply the free trade of labor. Free trade is mutually beneficial most of the time but not all the time. It depends on how hard it is to get in. If entry is difficult, an immigrant wouldn't risk going back home if he won't get back in again. These unskilled workers are still valuable because they have a low reservation wage. They are willing to work for less, leading to greater cost savings for those who hire them. The cost savings lead to higher incomes, higher consumption, and further job creation. Those native workers who lost their jobs to immigrants becuase they weren't productive enough can move to another job created from the consumption of the labor owner when he makes more money by hiring immigrants. Very good. Because perhaps those unemployed people are unskilled, too lazy, or demand high wages. In Australia, as in many other developed countries, there is a shortage in both skilled and unskilled labor. Including the "hidden unemployed" which includes people on disability, single mothers, etc, the real unemployment rate is about 10 to 12 percent. If I had a choice between hiring some lazy, unskilled native or an enthusiastic skilled foreigner, I'd take the foreigner anyday. In fact, my dad's factory hires heaps of foreigners. Both skilled and unskilled. And finally, Asian Guy, admit it. You're not Asian. Many of these people you cite are so racist they'd be more than happy to relocate all Asians in America to Asia. If you care about "your people" you wouldn't support them. __________________________ Is Capitalism the Cure for Racism?

Like I said in http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/showpost.php?p=148346&postcount=9, many bad things are natural. I wouldn't be surprise if a scientist claimed rape was natural. Alright, Asian Guy, are you really Asian? Because virtually all the links you've posted go to quasi-neo-Nazi sites.

Isn't it obvious? Females have a storng preference for tall men. As for the future of mankind, who cares, right? We'll all be dead anyway. Rational apathy.

Humans are Becoming Genetically Less Intelligent
ku replied to Asian Guy's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
Asian Guy, what do you suggest? We should sterilize the unintelligent? This may slowly raise average IQ over the long run but what are the costs? Individual rights to procreate for many will be sacrificed for the sake of long-term IQ increases. Go to the SPLC website and you'll see that Lynn and Rushton are paid by the Pioneer Fund to produce racist academic "evidence." -
Many dispicable things are natural in a biological sense, such as the capacity for violence. The rule of law exists to mitigate the harmful consequences stemming from these natural human instincts.

Protess carriers were too slow. The Protoss race has certainly got good technology and is certainly powerful but most of its units are expensive. The race you choose depends on what sort of map you're playing in. A mineral-scarce map requires Zergs.

How does [math]\frac{4^n}{3^{n-1}}=4\left(\frac{4}{3}\right)^{n-1}[/math]?

The site below suggests that the theory of evolution fuels racism. I'm certainly not a creationist nor am I a racist, but it is interesting to note that eugenics, the rise of Adolf Hitler, etc were very much the result of (a misunderstanding of) Darwinian theory. http://www.onehumanrace.com/

It may be likely that environmental factors play a larger than expected role in Asian height. Consider the increase in the living standards of the Japanese and their increase in average height.

I don't care if people around me get fat. Same goes for the ageing population. Makes me look more attractive by contrast.

No idea where Slovenia is, but I have heard of it before

Like most people here I am against affirmative action. It would be understandable if the poor were helped out as opposed to people of a certain race. However, the issue is not as black-and-white as that. The fact is that society is racist and sexist, so this is essentially an issue of justice in the procedure versus justice as an outcome. As the first poster said, affirmative action not only helps blacks but also other diadvantaged groups. In my university there is AA for students from rural areas as well as AA for females in engineering. There is also the issue of non-black non-white ethnic groups as well. Asians are over-represented in universities, so God knows what would happen if a racial quota system were established. Asians only make up three percent of the American population.

There is a Nazi lurking in these forums!

Yes I noticed that with \bigcup [math]\bigcup[/math], although you have to write \partial for [math]\partial[/math] when I thought it would be \del.

[math]w = \frac{K^{\frac{1}{4}}}{K^\frac{1}{2}}\frac{p}{2} \left(\frac{w}{2r}\right)^\frac{1}{2}[/math] [math]r=\frac{1}{8}[/math] and [math]w = \frac{1}{2}[/math] What is K in terms of p? The answer is [math]K=4p^4[/math] but I want to see the working out because, for some reason, I got [math]K=2p^2[/math].

I exprienced this same problem when I was a little boy. Just remember that when you type -2^2 in your calculator, the calculator interprets it as [math]-(2^2)[/math] and not [math](-2)^2[/math]. [math]-(2^2) = -(4) = -4[/math] [math](-2)^2 = -2 \times -2 = 4[/math] (remember that negative times negative equals a positive)
-
Be careful with this: [math]-2^{2}=-4[/math] but [math](-2)^{2}=4[/math].

According to my notes, when [math]P(A|B) < P(A)[/math] then there is a negative relationship between A and B. The probability of A happening given that B happens is less than the probability that A happens by itself, which means that B is influencing A.
