  1. I doubt he will listen. Once his pastor in church tells him something, nothing will get through to him or change his mind. But it can't hurt to try.
  2. Concrete proof is rare in science, especially in dealing with historical sciences. However, I am sure it has been mentioned before that scientists have synthesised RNA in a lab, giving insight into how life may have started. To me, this gives abiogenesis a one-up on the "metaphysical being magically creates life" hypothesis.
  3. No, its a bit accurate. I have seen it written here by more verbose members than myself; you are entitled to your own beliefs, but you are not entitled to your own facts. They can believe whatever they want. But attempting to pass of religious beliefs as science is dishonest and wrong, not to mention the underhanded tactics they use. Exactly. Being open-minded does not mean considering every side of the story, no matter how illogical one side may be. Science is not a democratic process, I'm sorry to say.
  4. My avatar is a unit from starcraft(I play a lot of video games), and my username is the name of a species of large, river-dwelling salamander (I am going to school to study wildlife).

AH ha! Did everyone see this? Our pal herme3 here isn't looking for just any explanation; he wants one that he agrees with. Sorry, a forum of science buffs and otherwise rational people aren't susceptable to the sort of leaps in logic that you are making. Take your lense flares.. I mean ghosts whoooooooooo, somewhere else, where minds are more pliant kid.
  6. Its certainly a fundamental, alongside genetics, and is important to know about to fully understand biology. If this said creationist (I know a Duane Gish is the indefatiguable leader of icr, so maybe you mean him) is indeed an accredited biologist, then he probably did have to take evolutionary biology in college. He simply thought, "well it was..all a LIE! yeah, thats the ticket" and was done with it. But many creationists that claim to be "experts" either have unaccredited diplomas, or have PhD's in non-biology subjects. Intellectual dishonesty. Simple as that. For some irrational reason, evolution offends some religious people so they try to persuade the public that biological evolution theory is a "lie" or a "religion", and attempt to find problems or things evolution doesn't explain, and then proclaim that evolution is therefore false. They then "logically" conclude that biblical creation stories should be taught in public schools instead.

Remote viewing is simply new-age b.s.
  8. [Diatribe]Me too. Although I am not gay, I don't see why gays shouldn't have the same rights as non-gays do. If a religious group refuses to marry a gay couple, I may disagree with that decision, but I guess they have the right to do that, its their bigoted religious beliefs, but leave anti-gay legislation out of the government. I don't see how two consenting males being married and happy is hurting anyone and no one is twisting any conservative arms to do so, so leave them alone.[/Diatribe]
  9. What you call "plot dragging", I call "tension building" and "story development". Don't diss my favorite movie. Oh come on, what about her shower scene at the end? Am I the only one who stood at attention for that? I don't recall a shower scene in "Alien".

There is a Ghettysburgh in Virginia, and yes, I may be physically lazy (thats what working 40 hours a week for book money will do), but I am evidently not as intellectually lazy as you are. To be honest, I have no interest in spending the money and time to go someplace to see something that doesn't exist. Orbs and flashes of light are easily explainable within the laws of nature; you are apparently really bored with life, which is obvious by the way you assume everything you can't explain easily is de facto proof of the supernatural.
  12. I know the longest-living human recorded was 120 or so when he died. With medical science progressing the way it is, I could see lots of Hubert Fansworths in the future.
  13. I'm pretty sure its fused silica. Could you imagine a beach without sand?
  14. I used to be into death metal a lot, and me and a friend wanted to start such a band. We were going to name ourelves "Insufficient Blood Supply". "Mutagen" or "Enraged" are also cool-sounding available names.

Yeah, we have all the time and money in the world to fly to Virginia to see your stupid "ghosts".

LOL! Another candidate for the quote thread?
  18. Thanks. My herpetology textbook really doesn't say much about them, other than that they are important to reptile taxonomy, thats all. I figured it had something to do with jaw muscles, though.

  21. Hint: google "predatory ratites" or "terror birds".
  22. Quick question: What can the different temporal arche structures in reptiles tell us about their various lifestyles and what advantages might say, diapsids have over anapsids?
  23. I'm done with this discussion before this gets even more ugly.
  24. I have said this before; its not too much to ask that you provide evidence. Don't be bitter. Science has no room for speculation and dogma.
  25. Replace your snide "hard-core proof" with "logic and evidence" and you are correct.
