  1. I'd say give it a try, Obnoxious. You can prob rent it. Some of the best games I have ever played were ones I was cautious at first to try out. I mean, if you haven't played DMC 1, its a pretty fun game, no plot to speak of, but really fun with cliche' Matrix-esque action.
  2. LOL, I would rephrase that as "but like all conservatives, I fear change" (not implying you are one) Anyways, capcom has a way of milking the crap out of their more popular franchises, keeping the style of the games pretty much stagnant. Resident evil CVX is basically the same game as the first Resident Evil. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge RE fan, but it took them 6 titles to finally change the formula of the franchise. I played a little of RE4 in EB one day and I was amazed at how different it was, and happy Capcom is finally listening to gamers. I'm sure DMC 3 is going to be pretty much the same as DMC, not that its a bad thing, its a fun series of games, but I would hate for them to make the same mistake twice. Heh heh a good reason to be on this forum is to discuss video games. If anyone here likes survival/zombie horror games as much as I do, give the game "Siren" a try. I'll never get over how good that game is.
  3. thats pretty much the central idea. I am going to state that and nothing else, as arguments on the seperationof church and state go sour very quick....
  4. An interesting ongoing debat in the field of biological anthropology is the origin of modern Homo sapiens. "The Recent African Origin hypothesis states that humans evolved as a seperate species in in Africa, and then spread to replace more "archaic" populations of hominids." (Park, 315, Biological Anthropology) A different hypothesis is the Multiregional evolution hypothesis, which states "that humans are about 2 million years old and human traits evolved in geographically diverse locations and then spread through the species." (Park, 315) Both hypotheses are backed up with equally compelling evidence, and some of the general data can be used to suport either model. MRE Model Here: http://www.jqjacobs.net/anthro/paleo/multiregional.html RAO Model here: http://www.jqjacobs.net/anthro/paleo/genome.html what do you think is a more valid hypothesis?
  5. Anyways, what do you think, Obnoxious? I would thik bad based on your thumbs down symbol.
  6. Is it out already? I only played the first game through. It was a little ridiculous. Even though it was really fun, and had great music, it was also kind of cliche' and had no plot at all. To this day I would like if someone could explain what went on in that game. Also, easy mode was too easy, and normal was absolutely, ridiculously hard (A trap capcom falls into a lot with their games, take Dino Crisis or Resident Evil 3 for example, not very balanced with difficulty). I played part of the second as well, but didn't have much interest. It was better though. I hope the third one is good too, I'm sure it will be, capcom puts out good stuff in my opinion, but they are also prone to mistakes (Dino Crisis 2-3, Resident Evil CVX, Resident Evil outbreak ring a few bells).
  7. There isn't a purely chemical explanation, per se, but as self-aware animals, humans and other intelligent animals have the power to know oneself and have identity. It is one of the things that make us so sucessful, and it is also useful in our ubiquitus complex social structures.
  8. exactly. But in with human culture basic traits that enhance survival, etc. can be sometimes overshadowed by traits that are "culturally selected" for. For example there is a south american tribe where all the males have (please, I am not trying to be gross or offensive here, this is the best example I can think of) blue penises. In their culture, having a blue penis means the man is better, or magical, and the trait is selected for.
  9. knowledge also pokes holes into what people currently believe and accept as true. For instance, if someone insists that astrology is true, and proceeds to rattle off subjective, anecdotal evidence about why that is, few people will be able to presuade them that it is in fact useless, illogical and completely stupid. This is becasue people don't want to hear evidence contrary to what they believe and put a lot of faith into. It upsets them, and I can understand why. No one wants to hear that "men evolved from an ape lineage, when they have grown up believing something far to the contrary, it scares them.
  10. Here is a passage from the Book "Unexplained!", by Jerome Clark which, I might add, is not a skeptical source by any means.
  11. Having played Halo2 more than once, I have to cautiously agree. I have never played Doom3, even though I am a fan of that series as well, I heard it takes I high-end computer to play, and I frankly don't have the money to blow on getting a new, faster Alienware computer with video cards and crap like that. Halo2's graphics are good, you can ever pick out the indiviual hairs on brute's faces when sniping them. Playing as the Arbiter was a nice surprise as well. I love that guy. It has a great storyline, realistic, convincing gameplay and great new weapons/vehicles. I give tentatively say it is superior to Doom3 it. If the occurance that i win the lotto and can afford a computer that costs as much as a car good enough to run new computer games, we might see.
  12. I think I have read this account before then. I'm pretty sure another guy (perhaps it was this "Bob Lazar") claimed to have worked at area 51 are claimed to be a physicist and claimed to see some pretty wierd junk. Of ocurse, found out ot be a fraud. I will look it up and post a little about it later.
  13. A lot more than pure assumption goes into these theories. Extraterrestrial life, while not impossible, isn't something that can even accurately be speculated.
  14. whats s-4?
  15. good question. Who is he? care to provide a summary for us unenlightened?
  16. hey, its okay, I also know whats its like to have no friends. Anyways, some of us are super intelligent for sure, but not all. Look at me, I am absolutely terrible at math. If you just have an interest in science, you'll fit right in. Welcome, by the way Hellbender
  17. This explains why a lot of people believe in psychic readers, astrology and that sort of stuff. My mother is a perfect example. She believes all the stuff unquestioningly and suffice to say she isn't much of a critical thinker. To her, if someone says a claim is true, no matter how illogical it is, she believes it. Critical thinking is a good skill to have, and in my opinion, should be part of the public education curriculum.
  18. welcome to the forum, pljames.
  19. this is a good point. its hard to decide, however, if this adaptations like these are pure prodcuts of natural selection or of cultural adaptation. I would say that since human brains form adaptive behaviors quicker than natural selection coul adapt their bodies or instincts, it is usually cultural.
  20. well, here's a shot in the dark: definitely.
  21. not to butt in, but you are completely misrepresenting yourdadonpogos' point. thats the thing. With a topic like this, it is hard to define where it should go. I see since extraterrestrials would of course be from another planet, which of course would be in space, it should go here. I think it should be in "pseudoscience and metaphysics" because all sorts of anomalous stuff is talked about there. But I digress, the point of your post wasn't to argue where you should have posted in the first place anyway.
  22. also, one could shoehorn this topic to fit into almost any forum category, but since it deals with space, i guess this forum was picked.
  23. I would guess almost equally as much. I have looked into a Zoology PHD, and it was pretty much the same, albiet a different subject.
