To spin faster than light is nearly impossible, at least you know Einstein's theory of general relativity tells you you can globally, not locally. But you need new maths description then.

You don't have to debate over planet-dwarf planet chaos. I learnt a lesson in a previous topic/thread regarding this matter. The lesson is science is objective. Your definition of dwarf planet might be better than mine but worse than the others. Refer the topic Pluto the dwarf planet. Why dwarf why not in this astronomy/cosmology forum section. I tried to insert the link but failed. You can try searching this topic in the search box on the top right corner.

On to something? I don't really get what you mean. I am always on in science. When Aristotle was convinced that the earth is round, it was a wondrous exploits to most of the public members. When Maxwell had his theory of electromagnetism published with 8 formulae, it sets the tone for future electromagnetism development and continue to be part of the foundation of quantum electrodynamics. Obviously, istm that science differs from the orthodox way of thinking. For scientists, beauty means accurate theories, plausible evidences, and solid convincing facts but to the public, it simply means application of technologies in daily life that ease and help us. The public gain satisfaction by enjoying smartphones and tablets. Scientists and engineers enjoy science by describing and explaining working principles behind them. -

This sounds like philosophy, not physics. Time is relative, so do space according to Einstein`s Theory of Relativity. What we observe in deep space had happened far long ago because light travels at finite speed. For example, when we observe quasars. They don`t exist today but have become galaxies now. Yet, they help cosmologist in reconstructing the evolution of our universe. -

Because it involves division by zero, which is not a valid mathematics. Time runs at half of the normal rate when an object approach 76% of the speed of light, c, iirc. Space is warped and thus distance is shorten by half when an object approach approximately 76% of c, according to Lorentz Transform. -

Brief explanation Higgs boson particles do not give mass to matter, it is the Higgs Boson field that is in non-zero energy level that give mass. What is gravity? You must understand modern physics. It comprises 3 main theories-Einstein`s General Theory of Relativity, Special Theory of Relativity and Max Planck and his colleagues Quantum Mechanics. Einstein`s GR and SR state that gravity is the warping of space-time continuum by a mass-energy according to tensor(s) (iirc, Ricci Tensor). QM states that force is formed when 2 particles exchange packets of quanta. Each quanta has its own name. Now, you must understand the 4 fundamental forces in the nature. First is Strong nuclear force, its quantum(a) is gluon, strong nuclear force keeps the Sun shine and only act upon Nucleon like neutron(s) and proton(s). Weak nuclear force determine the radioactive decays of unstable radioisotopes, used in modern technology like PET(positron emission topography) which involves positron, the antielectron/anti matter of electron. The quanta are w+, w- boson and a neutral z boson. Electromagnetic wave is the most famous of all. its quanta is photons. But for gravity, it is different. Physicists try to use the Feynman Diagram in quantum mechanics to solve the equations for gravity, they meet problems. If I recalled correctly, it involves maths calculations. You should ask ajb or Mr. Andrew to solve your answer. The current proposed quantum(a) is graviton which has a spin value of 2. Yet, it hasn`t been detected by particle accelerators so far whereas other has been detected decades ago. Both QM, GR and SR aren`t wrong but incomplete, according to Strange(a member in this forum). Scientists are working out the final theory that would unite all 3 theories, sometimes known as The Theory of Everything. Enjoy! I don`t expect you to not help in finding these projects for me. Never mind. But what key words should I google? Science projects? I will demonstrate my initiatives, of course if you tell me the key words. You mean other open source projects in BOINC, like Rosetta at home, Einstein at home, etc.? Mr. Bignose, I do need your help, I am a newcomer to the ever-evolving science projects world. You know, I am not participating in these projects for getting marks or as a passport to enter top universities. I really have the interest and the passion to serve the scientific community, and to learn science. That`s why I am here, in this science forum. Hope to see your guided links. Nicholas 30 years ago is much different from today, for sure, you don`t have modern internet that change our living landscape 30 years ago. Today`s world is highly competitive. To distinguish yourself from the others, assume that others are excel in their academics, I think universities would rely on your extra curricular activities performance to determine your position when deciding on your scholarships and your ability to enter the university itself. I understand what the first 2 sentences mean. But I don`t understand the third sentence. You mean I must be competitive in extra curricular activities to be excel? What do you mean by "there is little that extras could do"?

In Malaysia syllabus(I hate it), we are just going to learn about the Sun during Form 3, 15 years old. Different books provide different answers. The textbook is not reliable(no explanation provided/clear line drawn between solar flare and prominences), reference books give different answers and all 4 encyclopedias of mine yet give a very complex answer but still making me confused. So, I am going to ask experts in this forum for help. (This is not homework, so I am not going to start this topic in the Homework section) Questions 1. Where does solar flares, prominences and sunspots occur?-Corona? chromosphere? Photosphere? 2. When does solar wind occur? 3. What is the difference(s) between solar wind and solar storm? 4. Sunspots cycle occur in periods. The most common is 11 years. My teacher told me there are longer ones, like 7000 years and 11000 years. He even told me there are scientists theorize when we approach the 11000-year cycle, catastrophic disasters will happen on Earth. Is he right? 5. He also told me when the sunspot is one quarter of the size of the Sun, earth temperature will drop dramatically and cause serious climate change, is he right? More question may be posted/added. Yes, it is done, but only at a considerable cost. The last section in the link above has shown that NH is expected to complete its mission by 2026 but then it will only encounter heliopause by 2047 and the phrase "Provided it survives that far out" indicates the RTGs might have run out of fuel by that time, maybe it will still travel towards the constellation Sagittarius, but like Voyager, no data will be sent back once the power supply has run out of fuel supply. I mean RTGs aren`t as effective as using lots of gravity assists like Voyager during the planets alignment. We just have to keep our finger cross and hope to see new propulsion technologies emerge before the 100-year planets alignment occur again, should we?

So, what about activities other than the normal one(download and upload and analysis). Maybe you can give me some advice? You can either revolve around the topic SETI@home or other science projects. So for programming, what is the code and what are they? And one more question, usually, in Malaysia parents would simply send their students to learn piano lesson. May I know in USA does the Grade 8 certificate is really that important when applying for scholarships?

What? How to be an active code contributor? I am just running SetI@home this july. I have no idea of contributing codes. I am just following the norm. What normal people do is just install BOINC on computers. Then, download the files to be analyze. Some take hundred of hours, some take only 14-16 hours(my SETI@home) and for Astropulse it is just 6 hours estimated but actualy I take 3 hours to complete it. Then, after the period, the PC automatically upload the files and the researcher will then award the points. The cycle continues. Is this what you mean/consider as using unused CPU cycle? Then this woud mean I am just the norm, not standing out of the crowd? And what about code programming? Why SETI need code programming? Isn`t SETI just help universities launch SETI project?
