The brain is basically a semi conductor. Chemistry changes its conductive traits and in turn impact the way signals fire.Dreams may just be the result of resting pulse rate, blood pressure, temp of our environment, and etc?

@ dissarray, the OP referrences Satan whom is only is a character in Abrahamic religions whom all share the same God. It is their teachings and beliefs about that God which are different and not God itself. So your question regarding which God being is being dicussed was addressed in the OP.

That is very interesting. The trend seemed to move together until 05' and then something changed for men. What can explain this?

I view the GOP allowing (failing to stop) Trump to seize their nominations 2 ways: First, this will force change in the party. The GOP has pandered to bigots and low information votes with the Southern strategy since the 60's. The demographics of the country has changed enough that they must change course or risk being a permanent minority party. They must shift away from divisive race and religious policies and embrace libertarian ones in hopes of attracting a younger and more diverse crop of voters. Ultimately the GOP only cares about money! The race baiting and Jesus stuff is always just a charade to win votes. Once in power they focus on taxes and huge gov't contracts. The GOP needs a new charade. Secondly, The far right is apocalyptic; the end is nigh. There know that when the GOP was last in power they did a terrible job. They also know that despite their complaints things are better today under that Kenyan. They can't win on truth or facts and are angry that the world isn't just doing what they want it too. So they have decided that it is easier to go down talking trash and venting their fustrations than to lose giving it an honest effort. It is the "I can't have it my way so you are all ugly and fat" appraocch. They are conceding the election in exchange for the chance to through a tantrum. After the GOP lost in 2012 party officials said then the party needed to become more diverse and inclusive; well Trump is the far right saying to the GOP "you can't break up with us cuz' we're break up with you first". Childish, angry, cowardly, and self destructive.

You make an excellent point. I support Sanders. I vote Jill stein in 2012 and Sanders policies are basically Green Party policies. That said I do recognize that Hilary gets it from bothsides. The Right has been on her for decades. How many congressional hearings has Sanders been called before? plus Hillary gets it from the left. Meanwhile Trump gets has a permanent media pass on all his lies (how is the John Miller lie not a big deal) and Sanders is treated with kid gloves so not to upset his base. Ultimately primaries are a party nominating process and not a direct election. From local officials on up this will be a daily grind from now till Nov..Many people will commit themselve to this 60-70 hours a week 7 days a week: ensuring their voters get access to ballots, have access to voting stations, combating propaganda from the otherside, fact checking rumors and claims, collecting donations, explaining policy, and etc, etc, etc. That is why the party system exists. Because it is a team effort. By an inch or a mile the team has chosen Hillary. I think both Trump and Sanders supporters (to an extent) do not appreciate the thousands of people on the ground who will work around the clock from now till election day to ensure that not only do people support their parties Presidential candidate but also down ticket candidates; Senators, Congress, and local officials. They aren't obligated to hard just as hard for anyone. They aren't obligated to work at all. Who here believe Bush wins Florida and the White House in 00" without all the statewide officials busting tail for his campaign? Trump has already lost many Republicans. They still might vote Trump but they will now be working around the clock for him campaign. Floridia official won't change, manipulate, break the law, or put their careers on the line Trump. Trump and Sanders support both how a anti party strain but ultimately those party people do the heavy lifting. Just showing up to vote is the easy part.

Why is punishment even being discussed? How to referee a game isn't something figured out before a game exists.

Humans have evolved to where we are by sharing information. In the long run the more that is known the better. In the short term individuals, companies, and etc can be hurt. So to answer the question I would say it is a neccessary evil. Secrets propagate more secrets. We (humans) are generally always better off big picture wise once secrets are known.

If we are to start with desired outcomes first I think no war, poverty, or discrimination are the main goals. Lets not kill people, lets ensure everyone has basic needs, and we accomplish this without discriminating against any specific group(s). How do we accomplish that desired goal? @ Raider5678, from where are we starting from scratch or from present day present world?

We are actually a very cynical society. We gladly spend unlimited amounts of money on prisons and military style gear for local police but the suggestion of aid to the less fortunate offends our sensibilities. A lot of it is cultural racism; us vs them. Better to spend a million and be segregated than save a hundred and be stuck with neighbors that are different. Of course that is only part of it. Another side it the way we have defined freedom and confused money for success and character needed to attain. We teach that freedom means that everyone creates and does for themselves. Freedom is associated with independence and individual responsibility. While money is our measurement of success and reward. To give someone money who has not earned it themselves is akin to giving someone an award or prize for nothing. It is illogical be our stand definitions. I think we are slowly realizing that freedom and community are not opposites and that money is a poor measure of character.

It is as important to consider what is done with the tax money as it is where that tax money comes from. While a flat tax seems fair to many people the way benefits handed out are not. Many industries are heavily aided by tax dollars. UPS, Fed ex, Uber, and the thousands of other companies that use our public roads for their business activities would do so without any additional tax for the usage. Most of the terrible roads I have driven on are so bad because of tractor trailers and other industerial vehicles. The Airline, agriculture, and nurmerous defense/security industries are heavily supported by the government. In a flat tax system we would all pay a "fair tax" and then industry would siphon off the bulk of the benefit of that money while writing themselves huge checks and increaseing their positions on Wall Street.

Yes, we humans are not so different as we like to believe. Many of our attitudes are hardwired. Of course help people benefits of all in the long run. In the short term we get caught up policing assistance. We rather a million people do without than a hundred people get away with taking advantage.

What happened with Anita Hill was a national disgrace. It is a prime example of why more women don't come forward to report harrassment. She put herself negatively out in front of the world for no gain (wasn't paid, didn't cash in after) and was basically called a liar. Even those who defended her only did so sparingly. The argument that a women would come forward for attention being an eclipsing one that all others shrink when confronted with. The lie detector test stuff is not useful to a Clarence Thomas conversation in my opinion. His record from the bench speaks for itself. He refused to recuse himself from the Afford Care Act proceeding despite the fact that his wife is a paid right wing lobbyist who made money lobbying against the affordable care act. His wife has made over a million and a half dollars over the years as a politic activist lobbying for right wing policies that his decisions have directed impacted. http://mediamatters.org/blog/2013/07/29/groundswell-ginni-thomas-and-continued-conflict/195117

I think it is more misleading to ignore the process on its own terms. Caucuses, open and closed primaries is the way this process works every election cycle. Nothing new, special, or different happening this year. The implication is that the process is rigged or somehow being manipulated but this is the process both candidates knowing signed up for. This is the process everyone in this thread knew or should have known existed from the very begining. More directly to the point that the true numbers are unknown so saying Clinton has 3 million votes is misleading because of caucus states having restricted and low turnout. What is really being implied is that if caucus states had been open primaries turn out may have been higher and thus Sanders may have gotten more votes. That is a should have could have would have argument that ignores the reality of the process. What actually exists carries much more weight than what could've been had some other process that doesn't exist existed. There is a raw vote count and there is nothing misleading about referencing it. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2016/president/democratic_vote_count.html

Or © we are acknowledging the system as it functions. Some states have open primaries, others have closed primary, and some have caucuses. This isn't some new thing that just came to be in 2016. You are trying to imply that we know nothing because the format in some states isn't a popular vote yet have provided no evidence to support the implication that Sanders has in fact done better than what have been measured. Instead you are just insisting the the uncertianty means all should be thrown out. That makes no sense. Pointing out that the the number is false, in context of this conversation (Clinton 3 million more popular votes) is moot less one is attempting to imply Sanders is significantly closer. Surely saying Clinton have received 2 or 1 million more votes, in context, makes the same point. Saying we don't know allows a tie or Sanders advantage to exist.

Sanders is the best Candidate who ran this year. I don't think anyone is arguing otherwise.

". A member of the Democratic Party since 2015,[2] Sanders had been the longest-serving independent in U.S. congressional history, though his caucusing with the Democrats entitled him to committee assignments and at times gave Democrats a majority." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernie_Sanders

Sanders is an independent. He is not a democrat. He can run as an independent however the deadline for him to get on the Nov. ballot in various states has already past. Jill Stein in the Green Party candidate and will be on the ballot. Her platform is the most like Sanders on the many candidate who will be on the ballot. Many of the policies he advocates are ones the Green Party has advocated for some time. So Sanders supporters looking to support those policies could support the Green Party if they so choose. http://www.jill2016.com/

I like Sanders. I would prefer Sanders to Clinton but I find this type of argument to be flawed. The process has been known since long before the candidates declared. If the way party primaries work is a problem than that should have been address long ago and not at the tail end of the primary season. Sanders have 3 million less votes, less earned delegates, and less super delegates. All of that can't just be ignored because polled independents prefer Sanders. Mover over it is a party nomination. Independents may poll as a large group but, unfortunately, have very little influence. Despite the complaints claimed independents end up voting major party. Lots of other parties on the ballot. The Libertarian, Green, and Constitution Parties have been on the ballot in most states during that last few general elections. No one votes for them. So while independents are a large group they have no muscle like Mormons in Utah & Idaho, Evangelicals in the bible belt, Latinos in the west, and etc; groups that influence the outcome of elections it their localities. To win an election candidates need people on the ground working for them. Fighting to ensure areas that favor them have convenient access to cast a ballot, that local officials don't make it harder on their supporters to get registered, and to communicate their message. Politics is a team sport. Agree with it 100% or not but super delegates are the ones that will have to work full time from now till election day for the nominee. Not you and I. So who they want to work for and will work hardest for does matter and is a consideration that should carry weight. The way to influence 2 party rule is to actually vote for another option locally and nationally. They way to change primary rules is to speak up in advance and not in the middle of the process. What is an "independent" truly if they have only ever voted for one party as is the case for most claimed independents?

Great point! In addition to verifying rather that simply trusting most people in science change their view over time or when proven wrong. There is no commitment or loyalty to something that isn't provably true. In religion a concepts are accepted and believed craddle to grave. In science concepts are challanged and reevaluated craddle to grave.

Transgender Bathroom, Locker rooms, and showers.
Ten oz replied to Elite Engineer's topic in Politics
Sexual assult is against the law. Lewd conduct in a restroom is too. Famouly the former U.S. Senator Larry Craig (male who identified as male) was arrested in an airport men's restroom for lewd conduct when he attempted to engage a man in the stall next to him in a sexual act. The fact that Larry Craig was in the restroom legally is not something that saved his career or made the lewd conduct charge go away. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Craig_scandal Sexual related crimes are taken far more seriously in society than is whatever the petty charge a man or woman would currently receive for using the wrong bathroom. In truth I think most people have used an opposite gender bathroom in a pinch. The argument is that allowing something that is presently a ticketable citiation (at worst) will somehow increase the likelihood of felony behavior. It is too great of a leap for me. -
Had several dreams last night. One of the more straight forward ones I already posted in the other Dreams thread. One was a bit scare so I'll share it here: At the start of the dream I was in a Hostel, 3rd floor, with my Father, ex-girlfriend (from 10yrs ago), a co-worker, and another firend. In our dream I understood us to be in the Philipinnes. However I have never been to the Phillipines and the actual location reminded me more of Antique in Guatemala. We all left the Hostel and went walking around a crowded outdoor market at night. There we encourter a couple local market owner who wanted us to purchase storage space on empty shelves in their store (made sense in the dream). We decline but my father and co-worker were rude about about it. I then receive a phone from a man who warned my that my father and co-worker being rude have set off a dangerous chain of events. At this point the dream cut, like a move, to a montage of a few men obsessively working in a small garage. They were building something using molten metal. Back to me walking around the outdoor market. My father, ex, and co-worker go back to the hostel to retrieve something (I don't not recall what). Once they were gone violent small explosions began everywhere. I ducked behind a food stand. The violent explosions turned into nurmerous fireworks and eventually stopped. Smoked filled the air. As the smoke cleared a doze of old fashisioned milkshake waiteress of roller skates emerged. *old fashisioned milkshake waiteress of roller skates - Pink waiteress outfits, white aprons, hair in a bun, excessive amount of makeup. In the dream I understand then to be robots. They were what the men in the garabe had built. They skated around will frozen smailes. They were skating a pattern down every street searching for my father and co-worker. I understand that they would kill them once they located them. So I had to race back to the Hostel to alert them. Once back at the Hostel I noticed a man in the lobby walking in circles. He looked lost. I aproached him but he would not make acknowledge me. So I left him and started up the stairs. Om the first floor I saw a woman walking in circles who would also not acknowledge me. Something had happened to these people but I didn't know what......end of dream. I woke up.

Trump has recieved 40% of the vote in the GOP primary and millions less votes than Clinton. By the time we get through NJ and CA both Clinton and Sanders will have received more votes than Trump. A look at all various primary states shows that Trump has not received more votes than the Democrat in any of the states traditionally won by Democrats. To the extent Trump has brought anrgy white males who previously didn't vote into the fold it hasn't been enough to change the trend anywhere. Trumps best performing state to date was NY and Clinton received double the popular votes there as did Trump and Sanders 50% more than Trump. No reason to assume the Trump has a positive impact on the electoral college. Also mentioning how well the GOP do in mid-term only adds confusion to this. General elections and mid-terms are very different. Trump's success to date, in my opinion, is a self reinforcing thing. Believing he may have a chance legitimizes him and then gives him a chance. Trump's supporters feed on the idea that he is this super tough guy that everyone is affraid of. His numbers are actually weak. Weaker than previous GOP nominees and the more the world convinces itself otherwise the stronger he gets. It is a self fulfilling prophecy. In my opinion progressive would do best to ignore Trump for now. Let Trump fight with the GOP establishment for now. Progressives should just focus on the issues and finishing up the primary. No reason to give Trump more exposure.

Lots of dreams last night. Most straight forward one: I am in a small ranch style home out on in a rural farming community. In the dream I understand it to be Reno Neveda but it looks more like Montana. Heavy winds are blowing so I go outside to close a couple fence gates I worry may be open. It is sunset so one side of the house is already dark. I go there first and close a wooden gate. Then around to the otherside and close a metal mesh gate. The metal mesh gate is damaged and doesn't closeproperly. While fumbling about with it a boy (14-17yrs old) walks over and tries to tell me something but I can't hear him through the wind. He then walks off. Across a oddly large dirt road (like 4 dirt lanes) in front of the home I see a few people and lights out in a field. I cross the road into the field to see what is going on. Turns out to be nothing. Just some nieghbors bringing some farm equipment in out of the weather. So I turn to head back to my home. A farming aqueduct had quickly filled between the field I was in and my home. It looked about 2 feet deep and 6 feet across. The water was flowing and I was concerned about being swept way if I tried to just walk across. So I began trying to put rocks and dirt in it to see if I could slow it enough to quickly cross......end dream.

Even if Trump managed 100% of the support Romney had, Romney lost. What the GOP needed in 2016 was to expand. They needed to attract new support into the party. While Trump's supporters are very energized and the energy has a palpable feeling of strength all his supporters have traditionally been voting GOP already. Whether it was while holding their nose for Romney or beating their chest for Trump their votes are counted equally. It isn't enough to be angry. The base needed to grow in size and instead it has grown is emotion.

I stated a dream thread not too long ago: http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/83722-dreams/ I dream regularly and most of them are suspenseful. I don't know if the nature of my dreams have changed much over the decades. I am no expert but I don't get the impression, least not from my own experience, that the nature of ones dreams is tied to age. I think ones life and past relationships play a bigger role.
