All parties simply walking away is one the most common solutions to conflicts.
-
Reprisal or forgiveness are not the only 2 options people have for resolving conflict.

This could have been said of blacks during segregation. I find arguments that the oppressed seem to be taking it well so it must not be that bad to be shallow. What Israeli has been doing is un-democratic. All permanent residents deserve equal voice and representation. Stating that antisemitism exists and that Irealis are targeted for violence is not equal to vote of support for all of the govt's actions.
-
If people spent more time focusing on themselves and less time worrying about others the world would be far greater place. An eye for an eye is a justification for violence which is unburdened by the specific events. Feeling wronged by others is very easy. Taking responsibility for our lives isn't.

Israel has taken ownership of more land and denied those already their full citizenship rights. If I came to Canada and took ownership of your property and built my own mansion there would you consider it fair provided I didn't evict you?
-
Shoooot, parts of CO and TX use to belong to Mexico and today huge portions of the U.S. are upset people with Mexican heritage are in the country at all. This is an overstatement. Israeli is for from the worst of worst. They have equal rights issues from a democratic standpoint which can be resolved peaceful IMO.

"Victim card" is a dismissive name for it. Antisemitism is a real thing. Also various extremist groups are actively targeting Israeli citizens and would love nothing more than wipe Israeli from the map. Israeli does have legitimate security concerns. Likewise Slavery ended 150 years ago but segregation (legal oppression) continued for about another hundred years. Also no amount of violence you might perceive a group to be enacting on itself is a justification for further mistreatment. The challenge is good governance moving forward with an eye on the unique concerns. The holocaust doesn't play a role in Israeli's struggles with Hamas and the Arab world at large. Rather religion and the competing (fabricated on all sides) histories of all 3 Abrahamic religions is the problem. Jews, Christians, and Muslims all have their own perspective on the rightful heirs of the territory based nonsense written thousands of years ago.

I can't believe the Trump admin says there is a special place in hell for your PM yet kisses up to Putin. Who needs friends with a POTUS like Trump.

Neanderthals Built a Water Reservoir
Ten oz replied to Enthalpy's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
The Expeditions in the 1880's and 1967 found the same individual abandoned village. It is unclear if that village is used, how often, by how many people, or for what. Certainly not enough information to make any definitive statements about them. Smoke has been been observed as has light at night. So it is strongly believed they use fire. The source of fire and extent of use simply is not known. When M.V. Portman first found and abducted a small group (2 older adults and 4 children) in the 1880's next to nothing was learned. The abductees spoke a language which could not be deciphered, weren't discovered in or near a village far are Portman could tell, and quickly became deathly ill. Any conclusions one would attempt to make is purely guesswork. -

It is not known whether or not they know how to make fire. Contact with the Sentinelese has repeatedly failed. Nothing is definitively known about them. It isn't even know what the size of their population is. No outside people have spoken with them or observed them do anything other than shoot arrows. It isn't even known if they have a primary village somewhere on the island or several outposts spreed out across it. -
First, what historically has been done to Jewish people is unconscionable. They were mistreated in Russia prior to the first world war and the holocaust is among the ugly things inhuman history. Today antisemitism continues to exist and in still a real problem to varying degrees all over the world. That said Jewish peoples are not alone in being a historically disenfranchised peoples. Africans have experiences many of the same abuses and continue to be discriminated against around the world. Many Native peoples in the Americas and throughout Asia have been decimated to level where their culture is now unsustainable as anything other than reflection of what they once were. Past wrongs are should influence perspective but should be rubber stamp justifications for any and all behavior. In the the U.S. despite over a hundred years of slavery and an couple hundred years of segregation African Americans are still held to the same mutual (we the people) laws. In African The French, England, Dutch, U.S. and etc still exercise influence within various countries which they have economic interests. So when the historical treatment of Jewish people is used as a justification for modern political choices within Israel I cringe a bit. I cannot think of another group which has had their most coveted lands returned to them along with the full support and protection of the militarily and economically most power nations in the world. Jerusalem is the epicenter of Arabahamic Religion (3.7 billion people world wide). No group would be able to control the land free of conflict. The challenges Israel, the nation, faces today have nothing to do with Germany. Palestinian people are not German. Using Germany as an justification for treatment of Palestinians is an error in my opinion. Palestinian people have a historical and cultural relationship to the region and it is wrong to deny that. It is wrong to just ignore that they are there as if there is somewhere else for they belong. Israel is so preoccupied with codifying their own control that the needs of the Palestinians are being totally ignored and it is wrong.

The contradictions on this defy all logic. Investigations into Russia's meddling are fake news, excuse making by liberals, based on fabricated evidence illegally manufactured by deep state Democratic agents, and Obama's fault because it happened on his watch. Meanwhile Trump's own appointed team insist they happened and Trump himself both claims to agree and disagree with his own team. Trump supporters appear to just accept all this as Trump being Trump. That Trump counter punches and contradicts the media because they are all liars anyway but behind closed doors is doing whatever the right thing is. Proof that Trump is right can be found in his numerous victories: the economy has never been better, NATO has never been stronger now that he made everyone pay up, North Korea gave up their Nuclear program, The Syrian War is over, ISIS is totally defeated, and we are all allowed to use " Merry Christmas" again rather than"happy holidays".

No doubt. I think to varying degrees we all struggle with it. Emotionally I am very risk adverse and have squandered a few excellent opportunities in my life even though the risk vs reward heavily favored reward. I just couldn't shake the trepidation. Everyone doesn't error on the side of logic which means logic can't always be trusted to predict the future when human decision making is involved. Religion provides people a sense of identity. By creating their own sense of history and heritage it taps into raw emotional parts of the brain. Just like most people continuing loving family members even if they terrible people so to do the faithful continue loving their religion even when it is fraudulent.
-
The limbic part of the brain which processes emotions lacks language. People can have very strong feelings about things without any way to rationally explain why. Religion seems to tap into that. As a result constructive debate always fails.

The whole economy melted down during Bush and we learned nothing. We are right back to deregulation and tax cuts.
-
No doubt. I am trying to not come across as though I am rooting against the country but clearly many things are currently problematic.
-
As VP Pence has access to top Intelligence reports. At this point the fact he hasn't resigned makes him complicit to everything that is happening.
-
Right, the economy is no better. The govt pumped in huge some of money via tax cuts and increased defense spending yet the Economy is more or less unchanged.

Neanderthals Built a Water Reservoir
Ten oz replied to Enthalpy's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
Baboons are significantly stronger physically than humans. A baboon could tear a human apart. Also they have fur and the ability to climb/forgage places human cannot. A human with those physical advantageous could survive with a lot less intelligence. I suspect fire was our great catalyst and that was hundreds of thousands of years back. -

I think many people underestimate the amount of intelligence it requires to live as a hunter gatherer. Humans do not have fur, claws, great night vision, and etc. We lack the physical ability of our predator peers like Bears and Cougars. The average person today would die from some combination of dehydration, hunger, infection, and exposure inside a couple weeks if left on their own in a natural environment. The fact early humans thrived in the locations they did at all speaks to have intelligent they were. -
This is a powerful insight. To this day much of the conflicts in Africa stem from the manipulation of identity and allegiances. Slavery itself ended hundreds of years back by the religious indoctrination, image shaming, cultural appropriation, and racial dominance has continued. We see it today in the immigration and refugee debates. This idea that peoples must conform culturally and spiritually else be considered threats within western society. The old Hamitic Theory still governs much of the western worlds understanding of history.

I hope this is not true. James Bond as a character is not suppose to be a junior unseasoned operative. He is supposed to have been a Commander in the Royal Navy well experience in Intelligence and espionage. A quick ascension to Naval Commander takes 12yrs post Academy. Then Bond needs time to have become a seasoned spy. Theo James is 33yrs old but typically place characters in their mid 20's and the account of his youthful looks. It doesn't fit in my opinion. While true Sean Connery was only 32yrs old when the series began Connery carried a unique sense of strength and maturity about himself. Plus Connery appeared to age into the role quickly. By the time You Only Live Twice came out he already had peppered gray hair and was noticeably heavier than in the initial outings.

Trump's foreign policy after 2 years in office is: Canada is a National Security threat and trading foe, Theresa May is weak and Brexit isn't moving forward aggressively enough, Kim Jung-un is a talented leader who knows have to get thing done and the world needs to leave him alone, Assad is a good dude too, China are an economic foe except for when Trump family businesses need nothing, German is a foe, France is a foe, and Russia is the single most important nation in the world the U.S. need to strive to have better relations with. Nothing listed is an exaggeration. I used clearer and less aggressive language than has Trump and his team. Trump is all about Trump first. He is not someone who has any allegiances. By continuing to support Trump Republicans are showing jaw dropping amounts of disrespect to the Constitution. The U.S. wasn't designed to have a supreme leader. It is why the U.S. has 3 EQUAL branches of govt and individual States rights. The Republican party is ceding all branches, all powers, to Trump believing that maintaining power is more important than what tis done with that power. It is a Constitutional crisis. It has been all along.

Should Supreme Court judges be politically partisan?
Ten oz replied to StringJunky's topic in Politics
This is actually a relatively new problem in the U.S.. Following various losses in courts revolving around abortion and civilian rights conservatives decided they needed to groom their own right wing bias lawyers and judges. The Federalist Society was born in 1982 for this purpose and since that time Republicans only seat Federalist judges to circuit courts and the Supreme Court. It is why Republicans refused Bush's initial nomination of fellow Republican Harriet Miers. While she was a Republican she was not a Federalist Society member. A conservative political take over of federal courts has been underway over the last 3 decades and most people are unaware. Current judges Roberts, Thomas, Alito, and Gorsuch are Federalist Society members. -
So if all goes according to the forecast without any down turn happening Trumps first term will see and average of 2.4% GDP growth an increase of a third of a percent vs the Obama years. Meanwhile Trump's annual budget deficits are already doubling Obama's. Long story short Trump and Republican's are celebrating an economy which is no better, perhaps less stable, than what the U.S. has had for the last seven years or so.
