@ Ten oz, My view gave the god entity human emotions from the get go, but I do think that god has evolved with life. Russellian Science is a good concept to explore. @ Phi for All, I myself am a skeptic about many things and I was originally an Atheist. As a teenager I read a book that had me interested in Telepathy experiments. I understand skepticism, but when you are constantly repeating telepathic experiments with uncanny results it is impossible to write it off. I'll give an example. On one of my first tries I stayed up till 2am and sent a message to a teenage girl that had vanished from our group of friends months previously with no goodbye or update on her whereabouts. I sent a message while visualizing her next to me, "Debby Smith (name changed), Barfbag (ditto) misses you very much, get in touch.". I repeated the message as the book instructed for a full hour. (Book was "how to makeESP work for you by Harold Sherman"). Five days later I received a letter from the United States (not my country). The letter was very cryptic and reminders of how we knew each other like "Toga Party". On the bottom of the first page was the sentence , "LAST NIGHT I HAD A DREAM ABOUT YOU THAT PROMPTED ME TO WRITE". It is mind blowing how it works. I realize every skeptic here could calculate the odds of this being random as can the odds be calculated for every psychic experiment. Odds are the only thing PSI fields can use as proof without a measuring device. Most would simply think I am making up the story because the odds would be extreme for many instances, but I know I am not. The above incident occurred when I was 17 years old. I have had many years of experimenting and hobby in the PSI field since. I even invented a method of retrieving subconscious thoughts without relying on ideomotor reflexes such as a pendulum would require. My method was to use Subliminal pictures (stereograms or imperceptible colour changes in the writing, or UV ink just outside of known vision)) and have the subjects vote repetitively on the pictures that they felt was their answer/choices. This method was online but they closed that website after experiments concluded. I am also a Soil Engineer. I am very interested in science and I like to understand how things work. I am the guy who will take apart a car just to see how it works and then forget where everything goes (or at least have parts left over). So... When I say I believe skeptics are of a lesser mindset I was referring to skeptics about God and PSI subjects only. I would be skeptical if you said you could turn peanut butter into a BBQ dinner. I am also in discussion groups and discuss ideas with well known physicists including a Nobel Laureate (3 guesses if you type in PSI and Nobel Laureate his name will likely be front and centre.), and also some who might seem a bit nutty. Okay... Imagine you were successfully communicating with someone telepathically (it seriously is not hard to prove this to yourself). You would know sanity is not in question as EVERY telepathy experiment ALWAYS has at least two witnesses (sender and receiver). What would you do? I just kept right on experimenting... Telepathy is not easy. It requires two people to try it at the same time everyday. You can influence the person without their knowledge if you manage to send a message during their REM (dream) sleep. My beginners luck I stumbled across a technique that works and Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York led by Stanley Krippner and Montague Ullman did similar double blind experiments involving sleep telepathy with also uncanny results. (Wikipedia) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dream_telepathy The skeptics dictionary will aim at a few controversial cases but I was privileged enough to view the experiments from video and they were very remarkable, although nobody will ever really care (do you?). Now... If Psychic phenomenon does occur then How and Why? If I can send/receive psychic messages then the possibility of Mass Consciousness and God has a totally new perspective. So ... I feel very qualified when I say Skeptics on this subject and PSI subjects are from a lesser mindset I say it for several reasons. First because I totally think it is true and I feel sorry for them because they miss a lot of reality, and must think we are nothing after death which is sad for them. Part of me wants to motivate them to try telepathy themselves with a friend so they will get out of that mindset. Proving telepathy is impossible without tools of measurement. It always will be. This is another Reason James Randi will never have to part with his money. It is impossible to prove enough for a mainstream Journal like Nature to accept. A few attempts on your own with a mere several hours of effort can yield new beliefs in this area though. I cannot imagine why skeptics won't at least try telepathy. So.... I am not trolling by stating that belief. I am encouraging them to make a few hours worth of effort to transform their entire belief system. If I only show one other person the truth of the matter then it was worth it. Also... This is The religion section. Skeptics should as a rule not even be here although many of them police paranormal/religion topics to spew recycled rhetoric about how it is impossible or discuss the James Randi FAKE offer (explained above). So I will say again. I think Skeptics (on this and PSI topics) have a lower mindset. I personally feel they need to be reincarnated a bunch more times, and should at the very least try to do telepathy for their own sake. (I already have seen enough to never be able to doubt this). This post is discussing Mass Consciousness in relation to god and is on topic. I expect negative feedback obviously from a skeptic crowd, but most perusing the Religion Forum are likely just trying to inflate their own sense of being by poo-pooing a topic that has no clear defenses (I am not accusing anyone in particular, but the behavior seems common). I honestly feel sorry for them. It is sad.

If the universe is infinite then so must knowledge be. How can we learn what is under a rock on the most distant planet if the most distant planet is infinity miles away.
-
@ OP, Look at some real questions and give your best answer... How did the Universe begin? What was there before that? Does the Universe have an end? If so what lies beyond? In truth we ignore these questions because the answers are so beyond our ability to understand that it's pointless to even dwell on them. Just for a second imagine you were the Universe. One day you were suddenly conscious with no body. You have no friends. You have no matter or belongings. There are no planets or galaxies. What would you do? You are a simple soul but thousands of years pass and you are no closer to experience anything other than being. So.... One day you realize that your thoughts can create matter, and in an explosion of creation you now had gasses and clouds of dust to play with. Altering reality with your thoughts is not an instant process even though you are the only soul in this Universe. Time goes by and planets evolve and life is the goal. You want to become an amoeba floating in liquid simply to experience the coolness of the water or the stings of acid. It is a good feeling. It is a bad feeling. It is feeling. After millennia of nothingness maybe that seems like an improvement. So every living thing you join with in spirit in order to experience. God is enjoying that Coffee you are sipping. This concept of God is not my own. Edgar Cayce gives a long version as does SETH. I have participated in telepathy experiments over the years and even though science will never be able to measure telepathy while human brains are the measuring device, the evidence for telepathy is astounding especially if you experience it. The point of this part is that I have yet to find a Universal Theory that will allow for telepathy and such. I believe we not only affect our future, but we also alter our past in a real version of Schrodingers Cat where our expectation affects the outcome once the box is opened. If a lab assistant lied to me and said the cat will be alive because he rigged the test, then that would help increase the belief in the live outcome even if tainted by the assistants own thoughts of 50/50. This continues out to Wigner's friend and his friends. Everyone collapsing their reality based upon expectation/belief. The above Idea has been floated in various discussion groups, and it seems to explain some aspects of humanity like religion and prayers etc. If you have ever prayed and had the outcome arrive in a weird or uncanny way then you will know what I speak of. Imagine your boat capsized and you pray for help. Suddenly a ship arrives on the horizon to save you, but the only reason it was on that course was because the Captain decided to tack that way a day earlier. So did your prayer affect the past? This is a science forum so I think many here would say no, but look again at how ridiculous the idea of an ending Universe is. How ridiculous the concept of pre-universe is? We are in a place that makes very little sense if you look at my starting questions. Carl Jung coined a term "Synchronicity" as he felt coincidences were created by our thoughts to others. Even his friend Sigmund Freud thought he could telepathically communicate with his sister while she was out of town. It is mainly our own generation that has a good 40% skeptics in the world (probably a lot less). Ask god for proof maybe. I don't need anymore. I've seen plenty. So the answer to the OP question, "why would there be a God?" ----------------------------- -------------- It is to experience life, death, donuts, GTA5, and snickers bars. God is a part of all and everybody that is. p.s. I hate all religions although I have an affinity towards Hindu, Wicca, Buddhism. I believe ( I should say KNOW) we can alter reality by the way we think. I think skeptics are a lower mind-set who need a few more go arounds on this planet.

@ John C, So is your ozone recipe the same as everyone's? If I lay a mirror on the ground on a sunny day would that not create ozone without electricity even if on a tiny scale. So already you are assuming things can only be done one way, and that makes your above statement wrong. Also... Energy may become more expensive, but it may also become cheaper and ideas that once seemed ridiculous might then have merit. Try to think of possibilities instead of just being a nay sayer.
-
@ John C, First... Your calculator is already making mistakes. Who would pocket the extra 400+ Billion dollars from that estimate. Why stop at a Trillion dollars though. Why not build a thousands of space shuttles that can create Ozone at that level. I'm sure we can spend hundreds of Trillions if we get imaginative enough. The point in discussing is maybe there is someone listening that can cut your Trillion Dollar Estimate in half Maybe there are better Ozone machines than the one in your proposal. Maybe we don't need Space Shuttles to deliver them. It is the easiest thing in the world to think of reasons you can't do something.
-
@ John C, First my objection was to your idea of anti-discussion. I have no concerns over the ozone, but not talking about the problems won't make them vanish. Your link was to a chart covering Antarctica and covers up until about 2012. There was record ozone loss in spring of 2011 in the Arctic. So your chart is saying what? Ozone hole is shifting locations? This article agrees it shifts, so you are in good company. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2013/12/131212-ozone-hole-antarctica-recovery-2070/ This could turn into a Global Warming debate. I can site articles like this that say Ozone repair is tentative for 2070, and you can site articles that say almost anything else. My point in my thread was arguing your statement when you even admit we could affect repair but it would be too costly. Plus the repair by 2070 is conditional that we do not harm it further. Proactive or inactive...??? Either way it does not hurt to discuss global issues.

In my country everyone gets Free Tetanus Vaccine as a child. I have never heard of any dangers from Vaccine until this thread, but I've never met anyone who had Tetanus either. Booster shots are not as common and usually only if you step on a rusty nail or some such.
-
@ John C, If you are going to state facts you should back them up. I have read many predictions about ozone depletion, but yours is the most optimistic and unsubstantiated. Work already done? Like what; realizing it wasn't hairspray doing the damage?

Low Energy Nuclear Reactions / Cold Fusion (thread split)
barfbag replied to barfbag's topic in Speculations
Yes. But most NASA research must be under the Guise of Aerospace research. They may be 20 years away, but their patents now are going to affect our immediate future. They are at least researching LENR and not ignoring it as some Universities are still doing. -
@ John C, The OP knew this was likely not reasonable, but why is there harm in discussing this? Discussion is not only the point of Forums, but can also educate. When is the proper time to discuss this? After the Ozone is 25% gone... 50%.... There are a half dozen "speculative" energy technologies in development. Cold Fusion, LENR, Blacklight Power, and more. I am not saying they are real or yet realized, but science is moving in leaps and bounds because of The Internet and someday we will have Cheap, abundant, and clean energy. How will that affect your $trillion energy bill? Environmental repair should be a subject people can think about. Energy seems to be the only issue you have with it. or We could just shoot all the cows and have a burgerfest. I have not looked into it, but how is Ozone produced in nature. Maybe there is a way to nurture the process? Could we aim UV-C radiation skyward and hope it aids nature? This type of thinking (if we are allowed to think and discuss) might eventually come up with a solution. The key to a good Brainstorming Session is to make it clear to your group that no idea or proposal should be considered dumb. Entertain all aspects if only briefly. Someday the Ozone will be 100%. Let's just hope mankind is still here to see it. Maybe the solution is simply to create more oxygen .(Ozone is created from dioxygen)... We could fill our oceans with Algae Farms double the size of the rainforest. This would also remove carbon from our atmosphere (as long as farms are maintained). We could solve Global Warming (if Carbon induced) and fix our Ozone in one go. How much would cost to build an acre of seaweed in a floating lattice? You could ask companies to sponsor enough acres to reduce their carbon footprints in PR or political campaigns. Most of our oceans cannot support surface plants because of nutrients, so selective locations or fertilizing regimes would be required. You could grow the Algae fields over fishing hotspots and help increase our cod and halibut populations. Fish farms with algae can support twice the amount of life, maybe it will help fish grow and also slow fishing a bit. If a country has a drought, you could tow a few hundred thousand acres to them and they can feast on algae burgers (yum). So now we are solving world hunger with the same stone. hmmmm.. Yes. Discussion is the key. I am not saying my ideas are the best, but at least they are ideas and that's a beginning.

I am in my 40's and have never seen an unholstered hand gun in my life and I don't know anybody that owns one. I have seen hunters using rifles, but never small arms. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/04/11/guns-child-deaths-more-than-cancer/2073259/ People fighting for their right to bear arms are also fighting for the rights of the mentally challenged pedophile down the block to bear arms. The solution needs to be in slowing or preventing sales of weapons. The people who seem most embedded to fight for guns are gun owners already. It is a shame it is The American Bill of Rights. My concern is the number of illegal guns arriving in my country from the US. I have less problem with them killing themselves than I do with them allowing them past the borders. I think a smart media stunt to promote gun safety would be to fly in about 10 000 parents or so to a "Dead Kid Convention" where America (and the world) can see the enormity of the pain that second amendment has caused. The Stand your ground laws have recently been made headlines with the Trayvon Martin case. Nobody has ever said it, but I think his hands free cell phone made him look more crazy than any hoodie would. The first time many of us saw a person on a hands free cellphone we thought the person was just a bug talking to him/herself. Had the young guy held a phone to his ear he would have looked a lot less crazy. It turns out that Trayvon was selling illegal handguns himself (his cellphone texts had at least 3 gun deals), and that just points to further seriousness of the problem. I have never seen a hand gun (except on tv) and I hope I never do.

It is interesting how many people (not sock puppets either) have joined this Forum because of this Thread so far. Thanks for going out of your way to support a topic dear to you folks. Cheers... In LENR news. This paper was just published. It seems to follow the Flying LENR project NASA is pursuing headed by Doug Wells since February. http://arc.aiaa.org/doi/abs/10.2514/6.2014-0538 “The impact of low energy nuclear reaction (LENR) technology on the design of aircraft is examined. Energy conversion possibilities considered and a Brayton cycle engine with an LENR heat exchanger is selected. Potential aerospace applications of LENR devices are discussed and a high altitude long endurance (HALE) unmanned aerial vehicle with multi-year endurance is conceptualized with primary focus on energy management.” Noteworthy just from Abstract is the (ASRG) Advanced Stirling Radioisotope Generator . One of the LENR issues has been conversion from its less than powerful steam outputs. NASA developed the ASRG to run off PU-238. Maybe NASA is closer to Electrical generation from LENR than we knew. -
Seawater as poison if ingested...
barfbag replied to Externet's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
@ moontanman, Drinking a litre of saltwater would flush out your system for starters and the water would mostly come out in the form of Diarrhea. Your body would also send some of its water reserves to help flush the digestive tracts free from salt. The above may be harmless, but usually this question is in regards to ocean survival, and drinking any salt water will lessen your lifespan in that situation. -
To locate by Latitudes and Longitudes (many locations)?
barfbag replied to cordin's topic in Earth Science
@ Sensai, If he wants a programmed solution he should give a better outline of his background and possibly relocate this question to Computer Science as there is no simple programming solution. It sounds like he has the data, but just needs it translated into locations. If he wants to do it with programming then PHP solutions might help. http://www.web-max.ca/PHP/article_1.php PHP is very easy and is only a step away from HTML which many know the basics of. I think the code in that link should help. You could Copy/Paste your coordinates to an array and then have your program draw a square around the location or pop up a local map instead of inputting manually to a field. It would be harder to have your program output the actual name of location, but if it is circled on a map or a local map pops up you could look at answers, or add a photo/flag at those locations.. -
I am designing a dream boat approx 100' in size and likely to use Junk Rig sails for ease of use as I would like to sail/power around the world and visit more archeological interesting countries. I am now imagining a 45° angle of a wide and deep reinforced transom below the water line to add thrust from pitching. The idea is based upon other wave power models Example video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWpxtfmpVD4 Instead of using the rear wing as in video I would only capture the downwards pitch in my design. There is a Wave Powered boat that has crossed The Pacific (to Hawaii from Japan). Any ways to stop the bow from having reverse thrust might be helpful and am thinking more of a V hull or sharp lines and chines to break the bow wave. Any thoughts?

To locate by Latitudes and Longitudes (many locations)?
barfbag replied to cordin's topic in Earth Science
Tim the plumber already told you Google Earth works great. I have no idea what you mean by rounding and simplifying results. Locations are fairly exact. The planet has a grid on it of our design. North and south positions and East/West positions. Any globe/Atlas/ or map with these lines should also work -
Low Energy Nuclear Reactions / Cold Fusion (thread split)
barfbag replied to barfbag's topic in Speculations
This entire topic should by now be recognized as mainstream, but I suppose the Mod(s) who moved this thread to speculations won't be happy until this is taught in grade 9 textbooks. I understand that cutting edge science is most often ignored by most. Many people will tell you the pyramids were built by slaves for the same reasons. They choose not to follow the news on the topic. The pyramids were not built by slaves and this was recently discovered by writings from the era.- 111 replies

Low Energy Nuclear Reactions / Cold Fusion (thread split)
barfbag replied to barfbag's topic in Speculations
@ Sensai, RE: Checking Isotopes. Here is NASA video on how they are handling that question.. plz watch this link. Andrea Rossi uses Nickel Powder. Celani uses Nickel Wire. The Patterson Cell required Nickel balls. Nickel has been used in LENR in a variety of ways. I am not sure how the focus turned to Nickel/Hydrogen. But much of the current research is fueled by successes of Piantelli/Focardi with Nickel based LENR. (video here) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmfQJwWLo0I The Rossi ecat is alledged to have Nickel/Hydrogen/Carbon, and a yet undisclosed catalyst of which many educated guesses are being tested and published by other labs. My concern with grinding Nickel was stored surface energy from grinding. Nobody has any idea how Rossi or Piantelli prepare Nickel, however some experimenters like Celani are more than happy to discuss this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2qWgh7Gx4g I am sure you open a dialogue via email with him if you wanted. Many of these names are very aproachable and Celani is openly demonstrating his LENR device and has taken it on tour in many countries. http://newenergyandfuel.com/http:/newenergyandfuel/com/2012/08/08/francesco-celani-demos-his-lenr-device-publicly/ Nickel is the fifth most common element we know of. Supply is not an issue. The composition of natural Nickel is Ni-58 (68.1%), Ni-60 (26.2%), Ni-61 (1.1%), Ni-62 (3.6%), Ni-64 (0.9%). So in fusion of Nickel with proton the reactions are the following: 58Ni + 1H → 59Cu* → 59Ni + β+ + γ + νe, 60Ni + 1H → 61Cu* → 61Ni + β+ + γ + νe, 61Ni + 1H → 62Cu* → 62Ni + β+ + γ + νe, 62Ni + 1H → 63Cu* → 63Cu + γ, 64Ni + 1H → 65Cu* → 65Cu + γ Ni62 + H → Cu63 + 6.12 MeV, Ni62 + H → Cu63 + 6.12 MeV, If it is nickel and neutrons... If nickel isotopes are the key * start with highly enriched nickel 62 * get a cheap source of neutrons at 10^14 neutrons per second * get a lot of nickel 63 and then have an environment that accelerates decay to copper -
@Tar, Just wanted to comment on painkillers. People should not fear pills. A person taking blood pressure pills is smarter than someone damaging themselves for pride. Small daily doses of aspirin have been proven to lower risk of Heart Attack and Cancer. Your lifestyle choices seem very responsible, but medicine should be rejoiced not feared. 100 years ago a mans life expectancy was 52 years of age on average. Medicine and health education have added over 20 years to that number. Anyways... Just wanted to comment on the painkiller comment. My overall "method" is a total "Cannot Smoke at all in front of people you know". I suppose it would be less effective if you live alone, etc., but it helped me. It is basically a just because you cheated does not mean its over thing. Battle lost, war won. Cheers

@ Sensei, Funny. Not likely though. I know Alainco from a website that follows LENR but I will not mention here because I'm not advertising. Report the posts if you think that is true. I am sure the Moderators have tools to detect Sockpuppets here. The truth is this topic is fun. Anybody curious enough to follow the developments in it are mostly convinced it is valid. When over 20 unrelated labs report success in the same breakthrough tech, it is hard to say they are all frauds, yet this is where we are. -
@ John C, So you think particles moving almost as fast as sound cannot be influenced by sound itself? I am sure volume and other factors must enter into speed of shape. It seems like something worth exploring.

Seawater as poison if ingested...
barfbag replied to Externet's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
Seawater contains three times as much salt as the human body, and your body will not metabolize it. Your body will then take stored fluid and send it to the urinary system to help wash the excess salt away. This can cause dehydration and if your body loses 15% of its stored fluid you will die. It will also flush out any water or nutrients already ingested. If you drank salt water a lot of it would come out like Diarrhea like used in flush diets. The salt would also leave you thirstier than when you started, which is bad if your only drink is more salt water. It is not a chemical type poison. The salt will dehydrate you, and you are mostly a sack of 70% water. -

@ Sensei, When speaking of LENR we normally mean the most powerful mixtures which at this point looks like Nickel and Hydrogen which is the Piantelli method adopted by Rossi. I enjoy reading your posts. interesting questions you bring up. @ Swansont, It appears you don't grasp some of what has been repeated. If you have scientific curiosity though you can find plenty of reading materials. Start with, http://news.newenergytimes.net/2014/04/24/nikkei-reports-mitsubishi-to-use-lenrs-to-clean-nuclear-waste/ @ Greg Goble, Thanks for joining just to comment here. Interesting links. I am still reading about the photon splits. @ Jame Bowery, Thanks for joining just to comment here. @ Alainco, Thanks for joining just to comment here. This thread has brought a few new faces. Fun to see. -
@ Tar, You make excellent suggestions and explain your reasoning well. I think of my method as an end game to a quitter that is giving in to temptation. Use any method you want to quit, but if you do cheat start my method. Many people once they cheat will chainsmoke a half a pack and then give up on quitting. How many people try to quit many times before they really do? The main thing is to cheat in private and then try to quit again and keep up the ruse you have quit. The first time I tried uisng my method I was quitting smoking normally and when I cheated I just new I had to keep going. I suppose I could easily tell people, but then smoking in front of them would be okay and I didn't want that. Years later I smoked again for 5 years. That time when I quit I closet smoked right from the start. It removes the pressure of going without. You know you will have a cigarette, just not until you are alone. My "technique" is basically not giving up on your dream/goal, and not burning bridges if you do cheat. It certainly cuts down on your smoking, and then quitting for real is easier.

Low Energy Nuclear Reactions / Cold Fusion (thread split)
barfbag replied to barfbag's topic in Speculations
@ Swansont, Wrong. This has been mentioned repeatedly to the point where I assume you are not reading the posts as much as picking words. Remember I told you Mitsubishi is marketting LENR devices that can be packed around nuclear waste to absorb stray Gamma rays. Remember discussing this paragraph over and over on this thread, Released gammas are absorbed by the heavy electrons which are also there, from Released gammas are absorbed by the heavy electrons which are also there, and convert them to infra red, and LENR is often associated with low Gamma Ray emissions. Just because Gamma rays are not detectable, does not mean the process is chemical. The Heavy Electrons absorb Gamma Rays which later Beta Decay. Now...... IF THE GAMMA RAY IS ABSORBED AND NO LONGER EXISTS THEN IT CAN NO LONGER BE MEASURED BECAUSE IT WOULD NO LONGER EXIST. @ Swansont still, Now you also suggest Metals should fuse together. Cold Fusion is a Misnomer. The term Low Energy Nuclear Reactions was adopted for that reason. Instead of two atoms fusing, this is mostly several atoms shedding parts of themselves and forming a new unstable form that subsequently Beta Decays. However som transmutation has been noted by Mitsubishi and Third Party verified by Toyota using their own lab and supplies. (honestly this was all in my first post of this thread). see... MHI LENR transmutations: Na to Al, Ca to Ti, Sr to Mo, Cs to Pr, Ba to Sm and W to Os or Pt. http://news.newenergytimes.net/2012/12/06/mitsubishi-reports-toyota-replication/ or Slides from the LENR convention at CERN, http://indico.cern.ch/event/177379/material/slides/5 So transmutations do occur in LENR, but the main heat comes from the unstable elements.
