  1. Sorry....I thought my dry humour was obvious..but this entire discussion is so 1970's I thought some period (ha ha ) humour might be appreciated.
  2. Jesusmaryandjoseph!! It was a Joke..an attempt to lighten the duscussin with humour (that has failed.) Women say men are..... so, using hormones, precursosr, etc. to change a woman into a man and she begins to ack like...screw it..I ain't gonna start explaining my jokes. Perhaps if I had said that she "got drunk at barbeques and began telling everyone this was "Her house and if theye did not like they could...." Would it have made sense then?
  3. Chris, it is great to have you aboard. However, I must warn you that the same ridiculousness that was allowed there will not fly here. Here, a person won't be asked a couple dozen times to "PLEASE! play nice" but will have their psts deleted, their treads moved to "Posting Pergatory" and get themselves booted out. Now, that being said, welcome aboard. As for any of what "Analog5" used to call the "Little Trolls"..... on this forum SCIENCE rules. We know how to deal with them. Bill PS:if this is all in y head (along with many recent former members of the other forum)..why are they here?
  4. I cannot imagine such an experiement being carried out, Besides, if she was to become completely Male, most of her frontal cortex would begin to shut down from atrophy, and her limbic system would take over. She would grunt and curse about property rights, the stupid people in the world, and generally babble incoherently. I have witnessed this myself on a number of occassions at meetings. I believe the technical term is "Testoterone Toxicity." Bill
  5. Just in case I missed something. So I sent the URL to a friend who is a Psychology chair at a local college. I also used my limited knowledge of Psychology (1 BA; 2 M.S.--never did get my Ph.D in Psych). We both came to the same conclussion. "What a load" Bill
  6. OK. maybe I am missing something. Please explain the question again. I can see several issues that strife has picked up on to a degree. Your info needs minro adjustments. Bill
  7. Have you read "Microcosmos" by my friends Lynn and Dorion? I think that nails it pretty well. Bill
  8. I thought I explained this VERY well in my second book (which by the way earned me a nomination to the Royal Accademy). For the members who want to read it...it is a free-be (You gets what youse pays for). It i on my site..download it and read the chapter on the Permian era. Bill
  9. OK. I am a bit puzzled. Comment on what? Your chronbollogy is off by about 2000%, and there are other issues I am unsure you are asking or not asking. If you can be specific...I shall do my best to find you an answer. Bill
  10. Why are people Gay? Hmm. Why are people colored (White, brown etc.) Why are people horizontal as opposed to vertical? Why are people distally disigned? Why just one heart, yet two kidneys? Why not a second pancreas? Can you see where this is going? I hope so. Bill, Heterosexual but not really sure why.
  11. YES! I have found that to be a slight issue. Often when folks come here to speak or to lecture, I can get them to spend an hour or so with us..as they are on "our time." Elaine Morgan had to chat with us at 4:00pm...11:00pm HER time..and she is nearly 80!! The things people will do to accomodate me. Bizzare indeed. Will see what I can do.. Bill PS: Stephen does not "do chats" for obvious reasons.
  12. Um. Actually..I can't add anything usefull to this last post.so I will just shut up now.
  13. Yes. But only 3 TYPES. Womens brains are much better at different things than mens. I knew they were different, so ran it by a Neuroscientist. She used a bunch of words I can't pronounce much less spell. It all boils down to "Yup." Bill
  14. I discovered science as a child of about 3 or 4. It was not enforced in my working class home. The second time I discovered it, I was in my next to last year at seminary. I had done a translation of an old text, and found it had been distorted beyond recognition. I have been a science student ever since. Bill PS: soapy water, warm, run it over the prmary (you will have to remove the rear cell first). then let air dry. For the general dust and sich, I keep my scopes "stowed" with opening down. You can then direct a burst of compressed air to dislodege the dust. Worst case...the primary to replace that scope is cheap, and far better than was available when it was new.
  15. We now (us--You and Me) have our very own chatroom. There is a Java link, but for those running mIRC or similar programs, the channel is on sorcery net and is #scienceforums. Now that we have established this, we will be asking for inputs on a schedule of possible Open chats with folks in various fields of science. What we would like is to have some idea WHOM you would like to chat with. Some people require several months warning, some only a few weeks. Sooo the sooner we get started the better. Bill
  16. Not that I matter..but I agree.
  17. Ohhh. He is not serious? Whew!
  18. Perhaps, but as my fiend say, :Life has had almost 4 billion years to work on it." Now, what I don't understand is....why Asteroids are in SPACE but Hemorrhoids are not in the Hemisphere?? Just a question. Bill
  19. It is only if you HAVE faith in the afterlife that you should be afraid. Shakespeare said it best: what dreams may come? If you are like me...convinced it is on to organic decay..nuthin else. There is nothing to fear--but fear itself (and fear itself is pretty scary!!) Bill
  20. OK. I will need to ask a couple of questions first in order to answer: 1. Which research? 2 Which Doctorate? Bill ps: Yes. I very much enjoyed Dick, as a person, and as a teacher. I might have put up Carl..but that is still too recent. pps: I would not expect you to make a judgement on anything I say unless it is based on WHAT I SAY.
  21. That's not very nice...think of the Dolphins! Bill
  22. Trust me.....you get the channel set up..I can fill it up. Well..I can try anways. Bill PS: if this pans out...please let me know what guests you would like to chat with. You might just be suprised how many people I know in your world.
  23. Actually, if we limit ourselves to the idea of a carbon backboned chain of molecules as "life." This still leave many possibilities. BUT..there are many other possibilities (for exdample Silicon based). Only anthropic idoelogy insists life must resemble Earths. Bill
  24. The main reason some people get fat isn't because of genetics or how much they eat, it's because compared with thinner people they snack more often during the day and move about a lot less. The best way to slash the country's skyrocketing medical costs associated with obesity is not through dieting but by persuading people to exercise more. The government should take a more aggressive role in ensuring that employers offer workers more opportunities to stretch their legs and exercise and provide more noncompetitive sports for children as well as after-school programs in inner-city neighborhoods where children often can't play outside safely. Forget dieting--it just doesn't work. Cornell did an obesity expert and made these same points to a meeting of nutrition professionals at a program on obesity, presented Jan. 21 at the Southern Tier Dietetic Association in Ithaca. It was a great meeting (another story perhaps). Dr. Levitsky's studies with undergraduate students seemed to strongly show that when people are not allowed snacks, they still eat about as much at mealtime as when they do snack. And people who skip a meal or don't snack do not compensate at the next meal by eating more. That means that the less often you eat, the fewer calories you consume, he explains. America, he says, needs to slow the trend of adults and children becoming fatter, and to achieve this he has several messages, ones that I, unforunately must agree with as a "fat" person: 1. The popular high-protein, low-carbohydrate diets are just gimmicks. They work temporarily because they are comprised of fewer calories, but the weight comes right back because the diets are nearly impossible to stay on indefinitely. Such diets, on a long-term basis, could be linked to higher risks of cancer, heart disease and kidney failure. Not good. 2. Forget the "ideal weight charts." These send the wrong message to consumers; it's not your weight that counts but what goes into your weight." In other words, what's much more important to health are indicators such as blood pressure and cholesterol and healthful lifestyle habits, such as a low-fat diet and plenty of exercise. "Recent studies show that shorter mortality is more related to inactivity than to body weight." 3. What you weigh matters to your life, though. Studies show that obese people experience discrimination in jobs, housing, education, dating and marriage. 4. The popular set-point theory -- that your body regulates your appetite and body weight -- seems to be losing ground as new research fails to support it. 5. Americans are getting fatter because they are consuming about 1,000 calories more each year than the previous year. That is less than 10 calories a day. To burn off that extra energy, the average person needs only to walk or clean house about 17 hours more a year, power walk, bike or dance about eight hours more or engage in vigorous exercise (walk uphill, play basketball or jump rope) about three more hours a year. 6. The benefits of exercise include not only more calorie expenditure, but also lower cholesterol levels, greater muscle mass (which uses more calories for fuel than fat cells do), smaller fat (adipose) cells and changes in brain chemistry that induce feelings of well-being and a greater sense of control over one's life. And....Levitsky's final advice on the best way to control weight is to "move your body whenever possible while reducing calories from fat. Eat only when you have to, which means at meals, and finally, accept your body size. Be happy even if you think you're not thin. The major problem with body size is on the outside -- from society and the media -- not within you. Take back the control about food and body size." I personally workout each day with 60 min of cardio, and 45 min of weights. I went from 240 with a Whole Blood Glucose of 380 to a weight of 206 with a WBG average of 150 in 2 months. The diet..which means I actually eat wiser not less..is the big factor. Hope this helps answer the question; Bill
  25. Thank you for taking the time to explain this to me. I am obviouslly a moron, and so I am very greatfull for your enlightening me. How could I have believed that my reply would have be seen as a "pun." Thanks for your time. Bill
