Why fence? Could the Mexican's not chip in for a wall of some sort? We've been told they are open to that sort of thing.

OT. If you want to discuss Homo Teanderthalis...take it to the biology forum...😜

difference between upvote and like vote
J.C.MacSwell replied to TheVat's topic in Suggestions, Comments and Support
You have no way of knowing why you were down voted anonymously. So what is the value in it if you don't know why. If it's bad enough you should know why, isn't that better left to the mods than some random observer? -
Looks like Afghanistan is in Taliban hands...or VERY soon to be

You seem to have quoted and taken exception to my preamble. (despite probably agreeing with it?) I think he should, details aside, maintain some restraint. I'm not going to applaud him for doing that, but so far I'm relieved that he has. I'm sure he is under a lot of pressure to "do something". -

Biden is obviously struggling politically with this bass-ack-wards/incompetent withdrawal, even seemingly doubling down on his (his??) mistakes, refusing to acknowledge both the blame for it and the disdain directed at him at home and abroad...but as bad as it seems...it could be much worse. Somehow the Taliban are avoiding doing the worst of what could be expected from a multi faction rebellious group. As sad as all of it is to see, and knowing full well this is probably just the tip of the tip of the iceberg so far...Biden has at least not exacerbated the situation with any military "statements". Small comfort to those still in peril, Afghan women who will lose the rights they've deservedly come to realize, and those taking the brunt of any barbarity...but so far....so un-worst. -

Not even sure what the rating is...but if I got an undeserved +1...all good! -

I don't think it does that (the so quickly part) but +1 for the link. We had a relatively smooth (World Wars notwithstanding, since they were on the same side) transition from British to American World hegemony but he seems to have a grasp of the American's workings of it, and why they probably can't maintain it. (OT, but his video with advice for anti-vaxxers is also pretty good) -

I hold the opposite opinion. Any economic benefits beyond necessities of life mean little without freedom. -
Why are human babies' heads so big?
J.C.MacSwell replied to Tristan L's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
Some of this fits us a little more than we'd like it to: At least we have bigger walnuts... ...so maybe there's hope? -

Hopefully it's the due to the bolded: "Never give in—never, never, never, never, except to convictions of honour and good sense." Winston Churchill -
Faster than expected (which might be a good thing regardless of the fact that an oppressive regime is taking over, if they were going to take over anyway) https://www.aljazeera.com/gallery/2021/8/15/in-pictures-taliban-fighters-enter-afghan-presidential-palace Reminds me a bit of Saigon, and a bit of Havana. Hopefully retributions will be minimal and the new version of the Taliban will be a little more progressive than the old one. ...and foreign militaries manage to avoid aggravating it, in favour of political and economic pressures. After 20 years though...we lost. Hopefully we come to terms with that, and not try to turn it around.

I can see a great sales opportunity here: "If it doesn't work...there will be no charge!" -
Or as a semi religious fox would say..."lettuce prey"... (my dieting is getting to me...that or the gin) But definitely something to be said about pursuing a dream in the most healthy manner possible, IMO. Those guys certainly respected each other. One would hope the IOC makes rules that allow competitors to appreciate one another, rather than pitted against each other's identifiable group.

So...nobody liked my "On the iceberg lettuce" joke?

Balance would mean not completely fair to cis genders or transgenders (or both), not completely safe, and not completely inclusive. Intersex athletes even in this Olympics, for example, faced restrictions to the point of exclusion. One being Caster Semenya, who has been mentioned a number of times in this thread: https://theconversation.com/ten-ethical-flaws-in-the-caster-semenya-decision-on-intersex-in-sport-116448 I agree with some of that article...but am a little aghast at some of the suggestions, such as allowing (read encouraging) female athletes to raise testosterone levels to levels of what intersex or transgender females are allowed. But I'm certainly not going suggest the Caster Semenya ruling was fair to her, nor do I think I have a fair solution. When fairness, safety and inclusion admittedly can't be balanced reasonably, reasonable people will be upset with the results. (though I'm sure their voices will be drowned out by unreasonable ones...in an ugly political manner) One thought: For some events, save a lane in the Final for an intersex or transgender athlete that has proven to meet healthy restrictions...if they win give out two Golds, if second two silvers, if third two bronze... These guys didn't seem to mind each getting a Gold, and sharing first place:

The IOC has stated they will come out with new guidelines in a couple of months, allowing each sport to balance fairness to cisgender women, inclusion of transgenders, and safety; while stating it will be impossible to maintain all three. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2021/jul/30/ioc-admits-guidelines-for-transgender-athletes-are-not-fit-for-purpose

As MigL and I were quite happy to mention, they won gold in soccer.

But do it right...and you can claim you have no problem walking on water...
-
The normal force is going to average mg in either case, but I would expect fluctuate more with large steps, so be lowest at some points with larger steps. Lateral forces would generally peak with larger steps. So smaller steps should allow you to maintain grip, effects of walking technique, including timing maximum normal force with maximum lateral force, notwithstanding.

What does perfect mean to you? Things are never all in perfect balance, and change is constantly taking place. -
Totally inappropriate. Now, if he had said "On the iceberg let us" that would have been fine...

All good when it challenges our positions. We know your hearts in the right place. Be kind to those that don't know you as well. I honestly believe your influence will be stronger that way. (just my $0.02)
