  1. I would think so. Unless they are responding to imminent threats...and even then the "gang of eight" should be notified, should they not?
  2. I don't know any strict definition. But I know they are clearly acts of violence.
  3. I wouldn't have expected missiles to have been launched from Iranian soil (if in fact they were...other reports say they came from 10K / 6 miles away. Iran is obviously further than that from Al-Assad Airbase)
  4. Thanks INow. I thought that was what you meant.
  5. Obviously in response.
  6. Prior to Soleimani's assassination? There is an attack happening right now.
  7. As per topic?: US airbase in Iraq hit by rockets https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-51028954 Per CNN: https://www.cnn.com/middleeast/live-news/us-iran-soleimani-tensions-intl-01-07-20 "Iran’s state-run news Press TV reports the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) targeted the US airbase of Ain al-Asad in Anbar province in western Iraq." Apparently ballistic missiles launched from Iran itself.
  8. The smaller ones give you the sunburn...
  9. Calm down now, Hulk...that's just a mirror...
  10. "They're allowed to torture and maim our people. They're allowed to use roadside bombs and blow up our people. And we're not allowed to touch their cultural sites? It doesn't work that way," Trump told reporters on Sunday." Lindsey Graham trying to explain simple concepts to Trump: "We’re not at war with the culture of the Iranian people. ... The cultural sites are not targets under law ... unless they have been weaponized," Graham told reporters Monday" https://www.foxnews.com/politics/graham-trump-on-iran-cultural-sites-not-lawful-targets
  11. I upvoted this. Someone negated my upvote by down voting it. I think this is abuse of the system. Especially when targeted at a new member.
  12. I know I've admitted to being 160 years old in another thread (having spent 100 years in elementary school) but I've never claimed to have lived at the time of Newton.
  13. I'm not familiar with Tyson's views on the subject but this reminds me of an old idea: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boltzmann_brain "The Boltzmann brain argument suggests that it is more likely for a single brain to spontaneously and briefly form in a void (complete with a false memory of having existed in our universe) than it is for our universe to have come about in the way modern science thinks it actually did. It was first proposed as a reductio ad absurdum response to Ludwig Boltzmann's early explanation for the low-entropy state of our universe"
  14. I would say yes, depending on your definition of recently, and intended context of the term "nonsense". Newton would have been correct to call it nonsense, unless he meant it as impossible.
  15. Nonsense is based on a lack of evidence, or on evidence to the contrary, depending on intended context. The burden of proof for claiming nonsense is not so cut and dried.
  16. Warren's poll fluctuations are greater than Castro's polling numbers. So it will be difficult to tell.
  17. One of the threats the Iran regime is facing is further "in your face" attacks that could undermine their credibility at home. It's hard to tell what could possibly be a reasonable way ahead. I'm not sure there are any. With the Iraqi government voting to expel American troops maybe they take the opportunity to leave? Will there ever be a better opportunity?
  18. Put them in a position behind the bulk mass, where if it were not accelerating they would experience 9g. Or 11g
  19. You keep them in the +/- 1 g (or so) range from the bulk mass...meaning you need to get them closer to it for greater accelerations. To decelerate significantly you need to do the same but turn the ship around. (placing people on the other side of the bulk mass) As indicated you need to provide the means to accelerate the whole thing and the design is fairly open. Clearly the mass would need to be well above that of the Earth, even if the density is significantly greater, and exotic materials would no doubt be helpful...but exactly and actual design is up to you...(or whoever might like to write a Sci-fi using the concept)
  20. If you have a large enough mass space ship, and the technology to accelerate it as much as needed, you can drag around "normal humans" without crushing or spaghettifying them, by controlling their distance from the bulk of the mass. So possible in "theory". You accelerate them gravitationally, so it's all about the gradient or tidal forces.
  21. I would agree with that. I'm sure that will be the way it will be spun by Trump and the Republicans, and opposed and counter-spun by the Dems, leaving us to decide what to believe. I've already heard it both ways...but no evidence given.
  22. Not necessarily though. Currently we are absorbing and holding more energy than we have in the recent past...thus the global warming. Some reduction, especially if targeted for reasons Studiot alludes to, could minimize or reverse some of the detrimental effects (or not... for reasons you might be considering)
  23. I wouldn't take Trump's reasons for not consulting them at face value, but I really doubt that. If in fact that could be true though, it's as much an argument not to consult them as an argument to consult them.
  24. Let's not order our Trump campaign MIGA ball caps yet...(Make Iran grate again)
