  1. I really liked it when I saw it on opening night. I'm sure it helped that I haven't read the books and I went to see it with a bunch of friends on opening night-ish (or opening day) and we were all so sleep deprived that we couldn't stop laughing at the opening music (we're all music freaks too, so that was... amazing... )
  2. I wish I had enough spare time to do these things... Oh well, this summer I'll have time... Any other good links for Van de Graff's?
  3. I'm not so sure about that... Even the (about) $2 for a gallon of gas is better than what it costs me at home improvement stores... Maybe you just have better sources than I do.
  4. Best I can do is tell you it's got C's and H's... You'd think I'd know, seeing as I'm a pyro... (Who isn't?!)
  5. Petrol = gas. In England, as well as many non-US countries, they call it that. And if it's cheaper for petrol/gas there, than it better be here, 'cause it's darned expensive over there. What is it YT, like 2 pounds per liter? That's what I heard...
  6. Yeah, as I said above, probly some form of linux. I wasn't planning on using a desktop processor. And as far as the handheld goes, I don't think I really need a 64 bit. It's not like the thing is going to be a desktop replacement; I want it to have about the functionality of a tablet PC with about 1/2 to 1/3 of the space/size.
  7. Well, their non-reactivity was the one and only thing that prompted me to ask the question. That way, you could send power without worrying about interference from planets. I don't really know much about neutrinos either, hence the question. So now, I would consider that a definite no.
  8. By the way, sorry - when I said email a mod, I meant private message a mod.
  9. I know this kind of technology is WAY off in the future, but how viable would it be to use neutrinos for wireless power transmission in, say, 100 years? From a physics standpoint, that is - can power be converted into neutrino rays and back with a high efficiency and little loss? Just wonderin'.
  10. Email a mod and ask them to move it to the engineering section (tell them the thread name and location).
  11. IMHO, I think longer average lifespan goes hand-in-hand with everything else, particularly designer babies, and Mars colonization, fusion power plants, and nuclear war are also possibilities. I think there might be a correlation between those last three - fusion power plants lead to a full-scale colonization effort of planets other than Terra Firma, which in turn could cause a nuclear war... Scary to think of interplanetary war, but it could happen.
  12. You could attach it to a stirling engine. If you want suggestions on the actual construction (which I don't think you do, seeing as you asked to the maths and principles behind it) it might be better to have this thread moved to the engineering section.
  13. I was under the impression that concentrated chlorine gas is very dangerous. It was, after all, one of the first chemical weapons (used a LOT in WWI) and was responsible for many, many deaths on the battlefield there. Seeing as it has the potential to kill, IMHO, you should treat it as if it can always kill you. Anyways, that's just me. The FBI thing was a joke. The kind of things I've heard about getting on the FBI watchlist... I once was told that if you buy a copy of Hitler's Mein Kampf you are put on the list. For some reason, I kind of doubt that...
  14. And even more important, why do you want to collect it? Trying to get blacklisted by the FBI, now are we? It's extremely dangerous stuff, so be careful.
  15. Keep in mind, for the handheld I don't need something with massive amounts of power - I don't want it to be a desktop replacement, I want it to be a kind of super-PDA with the power of a scaled-down computer - I just need something that is decent enough so that I can run non-CPU-heavy games (that would be the heaviest work on the processor).
  16. No - it's still all 100% reflective (which, if I'm correct, isn't technically possible) meaning the light from the light bulb will just... not do anything. And it's impossible to have any system that is 100% efficient, or so says my understanding of the laws of thermodynamics. Light is no exception. What use would one have, anyway? Assuming you got the thing to work (which wouldn't happen, no offense, it just wouldn't work), as soon as you opened it, the light would instantly escape - a flash of light so fast that it probly wouldn't even be visible to the human eye.
  17. Anybody know of cheap places to get AMD Athlon 64 processors and compatable chipsets? Help would be great - and I've decided on AMD.
  18. Forgive me if this sounds stupid, but... do you mean flash? It not, what's flahs?
  19. I didn't see it - all I saw was a section on the creation of a hologram system that uses parabolic mirrors and a section on the parabolic mirror used - nothing about the actual creation. Am I missing it?
  20. I would like to make a double-parabolic mirror like the one here for a project. How good of a reflector would gold leaf be? Would it be better, worse, or about the same as aluminum foil? Keep in mind, I'm going for the quality of the reproduced image. Thanks P.S. Any hints on how to get a hold of the exact dimensions of the parabola they use? Thanks.
  21. I should have clarified - $100 for the handheld, not the actual desktop. Absolute max for the handheld would be $150, and thats pushing it. As for the desktop, the price is pretty open-ended, cause it's a ways off on my list of projects to complete. P.S: If it makes any difference, the OS I'm planning to use (at least for the handheld, anyway, and if I like it for the desktop too) is some form or another of Linux.
  22. Now, I don't want to start a religious war here or anything, but which one is better, AMD or Intel? Base it on proven fact, not speculation or brand name. If it makes any difference, I am asking because I would like to build my own PC and a small PDA / mp3 player / jack-of-all-trades thingy. For the former I need raw power, because size is not an issue. For the latter, I need something small, with a small power consumption, but still powerful. I would like both to be moderately cheap (under $100 if at all possible for the latter). Anyways, which one? P.S.: I did search for a thread on this, 'cause I thought there had to be one... If I missed it, all due apologies.
  23. Perhaps it's only true because they say it is - they say it's true, and the game players get so pissed off because it isn't true, and so the game players go on killing sprees against the people who say it leads to homicidal behavior.
