  1. I don't know what chrisned is, is it anything like being baptized? (sorry for spelling) Or like "officially" accepting "God"?
  2. Hey I was just on the end of my sophmore year but *graduated, I have a big interest in science and have learned a lot on my own, more than in school at least. Stick around these forums, you'll probably learn a thing or two here. By the way, what field(s) are you interested in? I may be able to help with a link. *http://www.chspe.net
  3. Oh, yeah, I forgot that a Prince of England is going to be treated the same as any other other grunt in the armed forces. There going to send him straight to the front line huh?
  4. I drink well more than 64 oz. per day and I still crave it all the time, I'm an active person though. I used to not drink very much water at all, and didn't crave it, but suffered from allergy symptoms and numerous other things, along with a sore throat and chronic dehydration. I recently stopped drinking soda at all and upped my water intake to well over 64 fluid oz. per day and now I have no more sore throats, no more allergy symptoms, and I feel a lot better overall.
  5. hahahaaha Remember when the penquins asassinated kennedy?
  6. Photons and Atoms Any thoughts, reviews, etc?
  7. I know I'm not a regular poster but I would totally fit in as a bad guy! Name: Scott | Gender: Male Field interest: Paleoanthropology Other Interests: things that go boom Imagine Edward Abbey mixed with George Orwell mixed with Geronimo set in modern times with an interest in guerilla warfare and primitivism Aw crap, I just realized how long ago the original post was, Oh well
  8. It was a joke, about how horribly long of a death that is.
  9. What do you think the purpose of cave paintings, artistic figurine carvings, and other forms of art in early hominid societies were? Personally, I think the origins of cave paintings were probably for some kind of plan, like a hunting plan, or for teaching (maybe less likely for teaching because it would have been more educational to actually see the animal, which was easily feasable). But this can't really explain carved figurines of animals, made from ivory, bone, wood, and rock (not sure of rock). Also, carved objects on weapons. Maybe the figurines were toys? The first picture is of replicas of actual artifacts. The second, is images of the actual artifacts and where they were found. The weapon is an Alatl. http://users.skynet.be/fa057790/IMG_5496.JPG http://users.skynet.be/fa057790/carteprop.jpg Oops, bad image on the second. The thread on the forums is saw it on is here: http://p081.ezboard.com/fpaleoplanet69529frm16.showMessage?topicID=209.topic I'd like to hear everybody's thoughts, pretty interesting stuff.
  10. I was going to mention 2001 but I didn't underdstand that movie at all. Aside from the unrealism of it (of the begining) I enjoyed the begining Are you talking about B5: The gathering?
  11. Hm, next time I kill a snake I'll try and make it a bit quicker.
  12. Yeah, my seventh grade life science teacher showed it to us when we were studying chromosomes.
  13. I don't know if you've seen it, but Gattaca is pretty cool. It's about genetics and gene engineering. I loved mission to mars, I don't know if it's scientifically correct but it's good. Oh and Jason X or whichever one he goes to space in puts Stephen Hawkins in his place, just kidding.
  14. oh thanks, I wasn't sure what the search criteria would be
  15. A long time ago something came up in a conversation with a friend about how long you can see or how long you "live" essentially after you die. My friend said 10 seconds and told me a story or something he heard. It goes like this: Somebody's wondering the same question and says to somebody else, when the guilotine goes down and my head comes off, I will blink for every second I can see/live/whatever, So the guilotine comes down, and his head comes off, and it blinks ten times, one for each second. So I didn't believe him and said it was probably just a muscle spasm or something like a snake's jaws do when it's killed while snapping. Any thoughts? Sorry about how vague this is, the conversation came up 8 years ago, and the naivety of it is because we where in the second grade.
  16. Right now I'm addicted to Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. Check it out, it's really fun. It can take some getting used to though. Oh ya, and it's free!
  17. I posted one in the suggestion forum also a while ago, I don't think it got accepted though.
  18. I was reading this thinking about my friend who goes to highschool, and how he needs a friend with the same love of science that he has (I don't go to the same school). Then I started thinking about making a post naming the school and asking if anybody went there, and BAM! It hit me. This probably won't work but it would be really nice if people could post the name of their school, and hopefully, since a lot of people view this board, they could post the name of theirs, and then eventually, somebody from the same school would see the post and could post their name, and maybe eventually we could get some sort of network of highschools going (I'm guessing the highschools are more desperate for this than universities) and this could be expanded on. I know this has got to be pretty vague but work with me, I'm tired.
  19. Does anybody know of any Anthropology message boards on the net? I tried searching through ezboards, google, and forum find. I was able to find a science forum with an Anthropology section but it was filled with crap from posters named "antinigg" and "ed conrad" http://www.groupsrv.com/science/forum-6.html I'd appreciate any help, If I can't find a worthwhile one already in existence, I think I might create my own through ezboards, although waiting for a new message board to gain activity can be quite tiresome. thanks.
  20. I have to say that the grounds for civilization collapsing are definitly there, however I agree that the other elements of the conditioned survival would be more relavent, especially because diabetics can easily digest most wild foods. Diabetes is only really existant in the context of civilization. Though again, to my original point: The current disruption of natural selection is deeply contributing to many of our problems today.
  21. AHHHHH! lol. Aw man, I live in CA and Arnie is just crazy. It seems like everyday he gets worked up and says something that gets him in political trouble, then has to apologize, it's hilarious. The most recent one, he blamed his poor english when he said california should close it's borders. Man, I can just imagine him being president.
  22. Yes john, if civilization were to collapse these would all likely lead to our eventual demise, along with the fact that the sustenance of large scale agriculture without the use of pesticides is impossible, and with the population of humans today, the earth will never be able to support them on it's own, leading to mass starvation. However these all are irrelevant to the topic at hand.
  23. I agree that there are better methods of training, but it still produces more or less the same effect on the dog. I was merely using that as an easy to understand example, rather than waste time trying to explain the psychology of a dog.
  24. I was using diabetes as an example. Think of a situation where we suddenly couldn't produce the medicine that is possible today, and how catastrophic that would be to a society where most people depend on them to live.
