Once again the only thing i can think of is that your solutions of iron and copper are much more concentrated (But spose this is unlikely) and that is increasing the rate of reaction. Try heating it up maybe you'll see something then...Its worth a shot i mean its not like its going anywhere this way. ~Scott

Wow thats hot Whats the damage on a burner like the one youve got? ~Scott -
How is the Cl gas produced what do the Cl anions donate their electrons too? ~Scott

Ive always wanted to make some flavouring esters but so may of them use butanoic acid and thats a smell i could do without ~Scott

Do you have any nitrate solutions that Magnesium could displace. ~Scott

How hot to those burners get my stove can easily melt zinc (420C) and ive melted a small amount of aluminium (660) before (It mostly oxidises before it melts). Im not sure it would be worth upgrading to a stronger burner because dont realy need anything to get that hot...but if their not tooo expensive, could it hurt? ~Scott -

I thought he'd use a stove? Anyway... Ive read before that it decomposes at 100C to CO2 and KOH are you sure it decomposes to the carbonate at 100C ~Scott -

Maybe he was trying to quote it... ~Scott -
Mate, that syllabus looks awsome...I would say go for it If your worried you might "crash and burn" which would suck...It would be a waste but what do you stand to lose? It might be tough couple of weeks if your up to it I say do it. Good luck Also what are AP classes? Im not very familiar with the American school system. ~Scott

"think the incredibly small amount of soluble Mg(OH)2 is reacting with your NiSO4" What would the products of this reaction be? Im curious because YT said he did produce some nickel metal and not a oxide which i think this reaction would produce. Is it possible that your solution is just not that concentrated and it is reacting, albeit slowly. That would explain why the Mg was reacting slowly as well. ~Scott

I didn't know a clockwork orange was a book...I've only seen the movie. ~Scott

K2CO3 = CaO Think about what your saying here... ~Scott -
hydrofluoric acid is a weak acid because it is not totally dissociated into ions in solution. I believe the reason it attacks glass it the F- ions attack impurities in glass its not to do with the concentration of H+ ions. Edit: Your right cesium hydroxide is the strongest base. ~Scott

I believe a 0.1mol solution of HCl is 1 and sulfurous acid is 1.5 or 1.6 (can't remember wich one . PH of four is very weak something more like ammonium chloride... ~Scott

That is realy interesting i wasn't aware that this sort of thing can lead to psychics! do you ever think you know what other people are thinking? If you don't mind me asking what happened to u at christmas? ~Scott

I think the Paul McCartney best summed up not letting your emotions rule...Hope theres some Beatles fans in this thread "For well you know that it’s a fool who plays it cool By making his world a little colder." -Hey Jude ~Scott

"I wanta cell to make electricity like a battery" Sorry i was a bit confused.... ~Scott
-
If you want to make a cell similar to a battery then do a search on galvanic cells these are pretty easy to make and interesting too ~Scott

Yeah hydrocloric acid is HCl gas dissolved in water. If your looking to play around with acids i would suggests sulfuric acid (H2SO4) its much easyer to come by its in car batteries at pretty high concentrations! Do a search on MSDS (material safety data sheet) on sulfuric acid before you use it, be safe. ~Scott

I dont know much about explosive but how much of a bang would 2\3mls make?

Does any1 know where i would be able to get mercury from? elementsales.com wont ship to australia, seltenerden.de is rediculously expensive. emovendo dosn't carry it and i cant find any on Australian Ebay (I've been looking for some time). The Kno3 sample makes me a bit nervous i would have to transfer the mercury to a clear container and i dont realy have any safety equiptment. I'm lost... ~Scott

If you recorded the volumes then use this equation C1V1=C2V2 This means that the concentration times the volume of the original solution is equal to the concentration times the volume of the second solution. So you know the concentration of the first solution (3%) and you should know how much you started with. And you can measure how much you have now, with those three values you can find the exact concentration of the final solution which will be 30% if your correct. ~Scott

That is the seller i got my gallium from only 10g though not 50. There wasn't any hazmat warnings when i recieved it but it was shipped from austria I think. So maybe their laws are less strict or 10g isn't enough to worry about... ~Scott
