  1. I guessed it would happen, thats why I quoted it here and said where I found it. Let's compare my previously quote with this one: From the thread eye in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience. This is made by a real person but with 10 similar and short posts in 19 minutes it's hard to tell if it's made by an excited young new member or an experienced spammer. If it's made by a spammer then the tactics are the same but this one is much much more likely to pass unnoticed and remain until a later return. How long is the editing ability open? I tested in one random old thread from February and was still able to edit my old post:
  2. How about this post then: It was made in the thread: Hey people in Astronomy and Cosmology. Do you really think an individual who has this 'profession' to be so stupid and not better at concealing their handywork? Secondly I don't think their purpouse is to annoy, they are advertising and improving search hits & internet traffic.
  3. I think it would be resonable to have a limit of 10 posts before allowing members to post links. But I don't know if the spambots would care, they probably would continue to spam without noticing the failure with links. Although in a longer perspective their creators might notice and turn their effort to easier targets or at least we would defeat their purpouse instantly.
  4. I agree again, but a natural change might not be what we would consider an improvement and if we manage to take control of our DNA we will be able counter nature.
  5. I agree, we will probably improve our own DNA substantional and might even complement our bodies with mechanical/electronic devices, but we will still be of the human race even if we no longer can be considered Homo Sapiens.

Actually Betelgeuse is Orion's shoulder. The pink arrow at the star on left labeled α indicates Betelgeuse in Orion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betelgeuse
  7. Very reassuring, now I can sleep good because I know Earth will still be here after my death... Actually, joking aside, I am optimistic and think the human race will outlive our home planet. When the Sun enters its red giant phase in about 5 billion years and torch Earth, we will since long have learnt how to master instellar space travel and already have multiple colonies spread out in several other solar systems.

  10. There is no singularity, no explosion and no creation included in the Big Bang theory. The Big Bang theory Extrapolation of the expansion of the Universe backwards in time using general relativity yields an infinite density and temperature at a finite time in the past. This singularity signals the breakdown of general relativity. How closely we can extrapolate towards the singularity is debated - certainly not earlier than the Planck epoch. The Big Bang is not an explosion of matter moving outward to fill an empty universe. Instead, space itself expands with time everywhere and increases the physical distance between two comoving points. Without any evidence associated with the earliest instant of the expansion, the Big Bang theory cannot and does not provide any explanation for such an initial condition; rather, it describes and explains the general evolution of the universe since that instant. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Bang A tale of two big bangs Whenever you hear or read about cosmology, there is one distinction you should have in the back of your mind - otherwise, matters might get a bit confusing: The term "big bang" has two slightly different meanings, and the answer to questions like "Did the big bang really happen" depends crucially on which of the two big bangs you are talking about. http://www.einstein-online.info/spotlights/big_bangs Misconceptions about the Big Bang ■ The expansion of the universe is one of the most fundamental concepts of modern science yet one of the most widely misunderstood. ■ The key to avoiding the misunderstandings is not to take the term "big bang" too literally. The big bang was not a bomb that went off in the center of the universe and hurled matter outward into a preexisting void. Rather it was an explosion of space itself that happened everywhere, similar to the way the expansion of the surface of a balloon happens everywhere on the surface. ■ This difference between the expansion of space and the expansion in space may seem subtle but has important consequences for the size of the universe, the rate at which galaxies move apart, the type of observations astronomers can make, and the nature of the accelerating expansion that the universe now seems to be undergoing. ■ Strictly speaking, the big bang model has very little to say about the big bang itself. It describes what happened afterward. http://www.mso.anu.edu.au/~charley/papers/LineweaverDavisSciAm.pdf
  11. Thats OK, you don't have to concede to Relativity, you are free to have your own opinion and belief. ... BUT I think the people trying to help you deserves better than your judgement. It is not us guys here that refuse to consider alternatives, it is you that ignore your own ignorance. Throughout this thread different persons have tried to argue and explain for you how you are wrong without success. While our explanations might not have been of the highest quality, it is still you who are the one failing to understand. The responsibility for your knowledge are not ours and as long as you refuse to accept the probability that your view of Relativity is incomplete, it will be impossible to elevate your comprehension further. IMO you should really reevaluate that you actually could be wrong and in need to learn more...
  12. Well, thats to bad, but we have to live with it then because fake modnotes would not be good.
  13. It seems like Owl ignored my post #196, so I don't expect to get any reply but... I would like you to consider the following questions, because I think your "global reality" sounds a lot like an Aether. If Leonardo, in the middle, holds the laser and toggles the on/off switch so that the light pulses then: 1a) How fast will Leonardo measure the light travels with respect to him? 1b) How fast will Leonardo measure the light travels with respect to Raphael going right? 1c) How fast will Leonardo measure the light travels with respect to the "global reality"? 2a) How fast will Raphael measure the light travles with respect to him? 2b) How fast will Raphael measure the light travles with respect to Leonardo in the middle? 2c) How fast will Raphael measure the light travles with respect to the "global reality"? If Raphael, going right, holds the laser backwards and toggles the on/off switch so that the light pulses then: 3a) How fast will Leonardo measure the light travels with respect to him? 3b) How fast will Leonardo measure the light travels with respect to Raphael going right? 3c) How fast will Leonardo measure the light travels with respect to the "global reality"? 4a) How fast will Raphael measure the light travles with respect to him? 4b) How fast will Raphael measure the light travles with respect to Leonardo in the middle? 4c) How fast will Raphael measure the light travles with respect to the "global reality"? And finally does the Earth's speed through space at approximately 1 235 000 mph affect our real measurements?
  14. I think the new "Modnotes" are great but when quoting a post with one it doesn't look very good, would it be possible to preserve the look inside a quote?

  16. Seems like Yomomma is reposting the NWO and doomsday stuff again, the OP looks like the front page of The Extinction Protocol. Our planet is dying and this is no mere rendezvous with a date on a Mayan calendar in 2012. It’s the mass termination of life on planet Earth. Nature is under a scientific directive. It is irreversible. It is the extinction protocol. ... Civilization is poised on the precipice of the most stupendous crisis in Earth’s history and we are running out of time to save what remains left of the human race. http://theextinctionprotocol.wordpress.com/about/
  17. I wonder if you understand what you are saying? You are claiming that Raphael, the guy going right, is measuring the speed of light to be 130 million mph relative him because he is already moving at 540 million mph through space! Do you claim that the surface of Earth is fixed firmly in space or do you accept that we are moving through space? Because IF your claim are correct and we are moving through space then we would measure different speeds of light depending on Earths position and speed in our orbit arund the Sun. This has been tested and falsified, measurements of the speed of light is always 670 million mph relative the observer, independent of the speed through space. If Leonardo would continue to send out more light pulses with his laser then both he and Raphael would independently measure the speed of light to be 670 million mph relative themselves. "The speed of light in a vacuum is the same for all observers, regardless of their relative motion or of the motion of the source of the light." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_relativity Some people are simply not able to understand relativity and others might flatly refuse to accept it, because this new knowledge would turn their worldview upside down and force them to struggle with a huge reevaluation of physics. I think it would be polite of you, if you could at least admitt that you don't understand relativity and more importantly whether you are willing to try to learn and change your view or if you are rejecting relativity and prefer to continue holding a personal opinion. ---------- According to the theory of relativity nothing can travel through space relative the observer faster than light, anything with mass travels slower, and as such the train can not reach the speed of light relative someone else outside of the train. But in the "spirit" of the theory, I think the answers should be: 1) Yes, the light is leaving the train with c relative inside observers. 2) Yes, the light is leaving the train with c relative outside observers. 3) Yes, the light travels through the train with the speed of c. 4) Yes, and he measures the speed of light to be c relative him. 5) For the people in the train the light bulbs are not moving and nothing unusual happens. ---------- Ooh, and I almost forgot, I think it's an all to rare occurance that people admitt they where wrong, so I think this post is worthy a positive reputation point.
  18. Michel you are pissed off, missing the point and doing the elementary Newtonian calculations wrong. I suggest you take a break and come back when you have calmed down. Either Giovanni, Leonardo and Raphael agrees that everything are as showed in Iggy's image after one hour or they don't.

Of course I take it seriously when people try to pull scams or cause false alarms and unnecessary fear, don't you? I suggested that already in my post #2, but swansont seems to think otherwise since he left it here.

What you, Yomomma, seem to fail to understand is that as a complete stranger on the internet you are only one of several billions untrusted sources spouting rubbish. Until you manage to put forth the slightest pice of evidence from a creditable source, nobody is going to take your claims seriously. So far your posts looks like you are nothing more than a bored young kid trolling for attention.

We already have a thread on that subject: A 2nd Sun?. It could be bright enough to cast shadows in daylight and outshine the Moon during night, but far from removing the darkness of nights. More importantly Betelgeuse is expected to go supernova sometime within the next millioooooon years which makes the chances of that to happen next year very slim. Since I don't understand how that is connected to or evidence of what Yomomma have already said, I conclude that the requested proof is still missing. We have not seen lots of pink Faeries flying in formation inside the Oort cloud. Does that mean they must be there even though we haven't seen them?
  22. Michel, what/which part of my post make you think I am annoyed? They are in different frames due to speed which is part of Iggy's discussion with Owl. But there doesn't have to be any acceleration in the thought experiment, Giovanni & Raphael could have accelerated slowly and safe before and then pass close by Leonardo in opposite directions simultaneous while synchronizing their clocks. "Decalcomania, from the French décalcomanie, is a decorative technique by which engravings and prints may be transferred to pottery or other materials." Since there is no huge accelerations involved both Giovanni & Raphael are safe. If they run or travel with spaceships and what model and color of their spaceships or what engine type they are equipped with and other such technical stuff are totally meaningless and irrelevant to the thought experiment. How they manage to reach that tremendous speed is unimportant to the question, whats important is that the speeds or the situation is NOT unphysical or impossible.

Yikes! Both a New World Order conspiracy theory and a Mayan 2012 apocalypse together with a binary companion catastrophe. But as anticipated are Yomomma unable to deliver the promised evidence "right in front of us"...
  24. You are not making any sence at all Michel... In thought experiments like this there is no problem with having fast runners and long rods. Time that has passed can not be deleted, all observers will measure a duration on their clocks. There is no claim that "Leonardo" is unable to make correct measurements in his frame of reference. There is no claim that other observers are unable to make correct measurements in their frames of reference. How different "Aliens" measures distance and durations is irrelevant to the thought experiment. There are three observers, "Leonardo" in the middle, "Giovanni" running left and "Raphael" running right, all three of them have clocks & rulers and are able to make correct measurements.
