Isn't life rather a philosophical experience?
-
That's true. But an experiment is not necessary tied in a model. interpretation can decide in which model. Take the Holographic Principle for example. There is imo a lot that points to the validity of the Holographic Principle yet depending on your interpretation there is nothing that points to its validity. Science is very open for interpretation until there is sufficient or very strong evidence, concerning the interpretation.
-
Those measurements and observations are often to open for interpretations to be 'evidence'. This causes something like the Many worlds interpretation.
-
Many interpretations/theories concerning physics are not based on evidence but fit with certain measurements/observations.(like Interpretations of quantum mechanics) Are they in a sense philosophical concepts that become science when they are sufficiently proven?

I know several people that struggled in high school and don't have an academic degree. Yet some of them turned out to have a higher intelligence then average. I suppose people considered you a 'total moron' because you don't use intelligence as expected by 'society'. Imo creativity (the use of imagination) is an important factor to whether someone is religious or not. There is a threshold hypothesis. The basic idea behind the threshold hypothesis is that high creativity requires high or at least above-average intelligence. At this, above-average intelligence is thought to form a necessary but not a sufficient condition for high creativity. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3682183/ It might be that a high creativity makes people more prone to resist indoctrination. Are your parents religious?

Modern diet and stress cause homosexuality?
Itoero replied to ritastrakosha's topic in Psychiatry and Psychology
Stop reacting on things I did not say. I never said "Modern diet and stress cause homosexuality" like you claim I did. I said modern diet and stress can cause homosexuality because it can cause prenatal stress. -
I think science is a body that keeps itself in check...science constantly adapts to a changing environment.

Modern diet and stress cause homosexuality?
Itoero replied to ritastrakosha's topic in Psychiatry and Psychology
Ah ok. I don't agree with the OP. Modern diet and stress can be a factor but pre natal, not post natal like the OP seems to think. After you are born there are factors which can increase your lust for a gender but you can't create a new sexual orientation. -
That's true, I would remove 3. and 4. as well.

Modern diet and stress cause homosexuality?
Itoero replied to ritastrakosha's topic in Psychiatry and Psychology
Incorrect. It depends on the kind of stress and the modern diet can be a factor... Homosexuality is only positive when its a minority trait so the systems which cause homosexuality have evolved so homosexuality stays a minority trait. That's true. It's proven to be very likely that prenatal stress can increase the chance of homosexuality. Its very relative though, I suppose many forms of stress can decrease the chance of homosexuality. -
Modern diet and stress cause homosexuality?
Itoero replied to ritastrakosha's topic in Psychiatry and Psychology
Yes but its not about other factors. Its about modern diet and stress, which can cause prenatal stress....do you deny this? And "not knowing where your next meal was coming from" gives very different stress, it's a survival stress. That article I linked gives evidence that prenatal stress increases the chance of homosexuality. I quoted some evidence about the male rats. The OP is by the way wrong. He states that post natal stress can cause homosexuality. Post natal stress can increase or decrease a sexual orientation but it can't create a sexual orientation. -
Modern diet and stress cause homosexuality?

Prenatal stress is proven to increase the chance of homosexuality. Prenatal stress can obviously be caused by stress or the modern diet. A nuclei of the hypothalamus, INAH-3, reveals that heterosexual males have double the volume of both homosexual and female subjects. Dr. Harry Harlow's famous studies with Rhesus monkeys [5] demonstrated that such things as love and the ability to nurture healthy children was a learned skill that could be altered by after birth experiences. This non-biologic effect may play a role in female homosexuality and may also be a contributing factor in the degree to which congenital homosexuality is either expressed or repressed. But they do not cause homosexuality. Male rats were exposed to prenatal (i.e. before they were born) or postnatal (after they were born) stress, or both. The prenatally stressed males showed low levels of male copulatory behavior and high rates of female lordotic responding (i.e. "lordotic" refers to mounting behavior which usually occurs during mating). Postnatal stress had no effect. http://www.viewzone.com/homosexual.html -
Yesterday I learned about Orthorexia nervosa. It's an eating disorder characterized by an excessive preoccupation with eating "healthy" food

It's often a lack of understanding. Randolpin gave a nice example how a lack of understanding can lead to religion: "1. God is the best explanation why anything at all exist. 2. God is the best explanation of the origin of the universe. 3. God is the best explanation of the applicability of mathematics to the physical world. 4. God is the best explanation for the fine-tuning of the universe. 5 God is the best explanation of objective moral values & duties. I will explain it as best as I can in the next posts." When people don't understand something then they often believe in things they can understand and in doing so they think they are scientific. There is I think no proven link, but I've often noticed how certain intelligence can lead to religion.
-
There are many forms of intelligence... But you might say we have intelligence and creativity. Intelligence is then about acquiring and applying of knowledge while creativity is the use of imagination. Creativity can imo lead to religion. And very intelligent people often seem to have less creativity which can lead to religion...there are of course many other factors.

This might be a nice definition: Complexity concerns order, patterns, and structure which appear in complex, apparently chaotic systems. http://www.informationphilosopher.com/freedom/complexity.html

I still think many religions should be thought in public schools but in a 'scientific' way. In what way are children better off when they learn only one religion?
-
When children learn about many religions, you create children with an open mind...

When you remove stone to form a statue...aren't you then removing mass/energy? Complexity can mean many things, I think it's difficult to make a definition. A painting can also be called to be complex. The structure can cause complexity and structure can reduce the concentration of mass/energy while increasing complexity. Look to the difference between graphite and diamond. They are both made of carbon but the inner structure causes the concentration of mass/energy to be higher in diamond. And you can call the crystal structure of graphite to be more complex then diamond.

Is this a joke?

All my tomatoes are planted in my greenhouse I can't wait for the first ripe tomatoes, they taste a lot better then the ones from a store. I especially like the bigger beefsteak tomatoes. I'm also growing a Jalapeno, I'm going to make my own poppers This is my biggest tomato so far...a big zac.
-
That's true. But I only explained my situation. Today I heard that in Mexico the Church had a lot of 'power' and as reaction religion is banned in many public schools.
-
When religion is taught at school it should be a part of history and people should learn about many religions. I was taught catholicism like it was a fact that God exists and I still remember all stories from the O.T. I was taught when I was maybe 9 years old. That's a mellow form of indoctrination.
-
What do you think about preventing religion from being taught at school? Are schools better of without religion?
