I'm soon to be graduating with my computer science degree and wanted to ask some people who work in the field of development a question, particularly if you are employer for a larger corporation. Before I started my education I was in the armed forces where I was charged, but not convicted of larceny as the charges were dismissed via a form of discharge I accepted. It has been 12 years since that happened and I have not had any negative legal matters since, along with a good credit/work history. However, were a business to require a fingerprint background check, they would see the charges. Are positions that are open in insurance, banking, non-profit organizations going to require a fingerprint background check? Technically I would have to say yes to an arrest if it were asked, but no to a conviction. I feel that I would still be prejudiced against if the issue comes up and might have a hard time getting in a job. Can anyone offer any advice or if they know firsthand from being a developer, or suggest routes to look for start-up companies rather than large corporations? Thank you for any help you can provide!
