Actually, no: we make fun of jesus all the time, and alot of extremist christians do go into 'burn the heretic' mode (the jerry springer show is the most recent extreme example of this that i can think of). The only difference that i can see is that, in the UK and US, the christian-extremists are not allowed to kill, otherwize im absolutely sure that many of them would (we all must have seen christian-religiouse-self-rightiouse-ferver working in overdrive, essentially creating a baying pack of unthinking animals, and history shows that they've certainly acted like the muslims currently are before); in the muslim-heavy countries, the religiouse extremists seem to not be prevented from acting upon their furvor. So, i think its probably more to do with the local politics than the religion itself.

Cheers all hmm... actually, i just like learning, and computer programing intrests me. I hadn't actually thought ahead to what i'd wright. Im taking an online course in malware removal, so i might try to wright a few removal tools for individual infections of the more tricky malwares, and possibly a few little computer games (cos i love rpg's). ---------- As for first language... i was thinking java (mainly 'cos it's free)... does that sound like a good first language?

CSS/positional question -- height of one div = height of another div
Dak replied to Dak's topic in Computer Science
Thank you very much I don't know why, but this has been really stressing me out the fact that the "height: 100%" bit didn't make the div take up the whole height of the containing div just really annoyed me for some reason Usually i find it quite fun trying to figure stuff like this out. -
I guess you could team up with a programmer or two, give them the idea and let them develop it, and release it as donation-ware with you and the programer(s) getting an equal split of the donations. That would probably be the easyest way, tho not nessesaraly the most lucrative. Im curiouse as to how you have an idea as to how to stop spam without any technical knowledge tho... could you give us a brief overview, without revealing too much?

An enzyme called alcohol dehydrogenase converts ethanol into ethanyl + H+ -- its either ethanyl or the acidifying of blood from the hydrogen that is responsable for the drunkeness (can't remember which), so filtering out the alcohol wouldnt have that much effect tbh.

CSS/positional question -- height of one div = height of another div

Hangon, wait.... ignore the borders, i'd just be happy knowing how to match the heights of the side bars. And cheers muchly both for the help -
that's like saying that recessively fatal genes can't exist, cos they give the organism a reproductive disadvantage.

CSS/positional question -- height of one div = height of another div
Dak replied to Dak's topic in Computer Science
like this (the blue div)? I cant see how to drop the left div's bottom down to it. i tried putting the left, right, and footer divs all in a div, and tried setting the height of the left div to 100%, hoping it would fill the whole containing-div, but no. no it did not. balls is what i say. this is confusing -
CSS/positional question -- height of one div = height of another div
Dak replied to Dak's topic in Computer Science
I can see why that should work (the footer div should drop down, pulling the bottom of the right div that it's in, untill it is level with the left div), but it doesn't seem to work. I put this in: __________ <div class="right"> <p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nibh euismod tincidunt ut laoreet dolore magna aliquam erat volutpat. </div> </div> ___________ Was that what you meant? [edit]hmm... i think you've given me enough of a clue tho, ill go and think about it.[/edit] -
lol. that would explain it I did wonder why 'forum' had a double-arrow next to it, but not 'index'.

Dont be too hesetant, the good thing about wikis is that you can do as much or as little as you wish, and any omissions or minor mistakes that you make will be fixed later by someone else. on another note: It's there now, but I personally never look at the home page, and i assume that the same might be true of others; might it be possible to put a link to WiSci on the top navipanel? I know it's a bit crowded, but it'll be more visible there. Also, is this a good place to mention that if blikes paying for WiSci, he might wish to set up a paypal account and accept donations for the (eventually presumably large) bandwidth costs. We have a commented-out note about donating on this page: http://www.wisci.org/wiki/Help:Introduction but no place for the donations to go.

on the home page, in the sidebar on the left, two links -- 'forums' and 'index' -- both point to the same place.

mmm... empirical evidence. I can notice no difference between page filing being on and page filing being off, with a RAM:used memory ratio of 1.5:1. Note that i have no idea exactly what windows means when it says 'total used virtual memory'.

Just out of interest, what's a psycologist doing investigating the possibility that homosexuality is genetic? I'd have thought that a genetisist would do that, and a psycologist would investigate the possible learnt origins of it? Anyway, curiosity aside, it might be worth PMing a mod and asking them to move this out of genetics and into general discussion, as you will likely get more responses that way, unless you want some actual genetics questions answred.

I asked a computer techy guy, and he said that what the task manager reports as 'page file useage history' is actually virtual memory useage. Virtual memory = ram + pagefile, so... i wasn't using about 250MB of pagefile, i was using about 250 MB of memory, which was more than likely all on my RAM. from http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.php So, even if my pagefile is being 'used', it might not be. if that makes sence.

life imprisonment is a more eloquent solution IMO -- it allows for the removal of the threat from society, without the ethical problems of killing them, and still acts as a deterrent to others. And betinna: for a person who has, within this thread, condemned 'these nations' for their brutality and uncivilised savagry, do you not think that your barbaric blood-lust is a tad hypocritical?
-
Pedophillia, the rape that you mentioned earlyer, and the homosexuality that this thread is about are all natural in-as-much as they are observed quite a bit in nature, and are, as far as can be discerned, the results of natural instincts -- certainly in the case of animals. homosexuality, paedophillia, and rape are all observed being practiced by animals, who certainly can't have aquired these practices as a result of their 'unnatural' society. out of interest, what is you're definition of 'natural'?

In addition to what sayo said: SIMMS require same sized ram sticks, but with DIMMS (which is what i have), you can mix two ram sticks of different size. Lol, I feel behind the times... I have two PC133 sticks.

OK, I just replaced my 64MB ram card with a 512MB one, thus taking my total ram from 192MB up to 638MB... quite a difference, and my computer seems alot zippier as a result. However, I notice that the pagefile is still being used as much as it was before the upgrade. Curoiouse, I turned pagefiling off and rebooted, only to find the page file STILL being used as much as it was before... So, does anyone know why, with all the extra juicy ram, the taskmanager still shows between 200 and 300MB of my page file being used? espescially when pagefiling was turned off?

even if it is 'junk', it at least plays a role in as much as it makes it unlikely that any damage that targets dna (such as retroviruses) hits any vital coding dna.

hmm.. Id also guess that both need it, but i cant find out from anywhere.

Not unless microsoft have made one. gaim is a multi-protocol chat client, which means that yes, you do need a username/pass, but you can use your msn one (or yahooIM, aim, etc) But the gaim plug-in won't work on msn, so yeah you have to download gaim. Im curiouse: does the reciever need the plug-in aswell, or just the sender?

During BSphase -- an early step in meiotic division -- 2 two-and-a-half sided helixes will come together to form a 5-sided double helix. You can learn more about 5, 8, and especially [math]\sqrt{-7}[/math] sided double, mono, and pentablooble helixes if you buy my new book, hyperquantumn genetics, and how it interacts with the space-time continuinumnumn for beginners
