hey, that happened to me about a week ago (the 'block imajes from this site thing). took me ages to figure it out

its confused by the fact that some moulds arent actually fungi. some, eg water moulds and plasmodial/slime moulds, are protists (eukaryotes); others, like the blerdeburghcantremember moulds, are bacteria (prokaryotes). other than the moulds-which-arent-the-same-as-the-other-moulds, fungi (mushrooms, fungus, (most) molds, yeast etc) are eukaryotes. lichens further complicate it, by being a symbiotic species consisting of fungi and a photosynthetic partner, either a chlorophyta (green algae: a eukaryotic protist) or a cyanobacter, (a prokaryotic protist ? ) so i dont know what youd classify cyanobacter lichens as.

well, then lets just go the whole hog and imprison the guy who grabbed the kid's arm for statutory rape.

I said stay the course, simply because any change of plan this soon after terrorist explosions might encorage the terrorists by making them think that their intimidation had worked.

there are as many valid arguments that the war in iraq etc was a bad idea as there are valid arguments that it was a good idea, but whichever; britain chose to go to war. we weren't forced by bush, so i dont see how he could be to blame even if the war was inadvisable and the cause of the recent bombings.

would that not, in actual fact, be you?

And dont forget that most of the UK isnt city, its countryside. you could set up an explosives lab in the country piece of piddle. my mate, who comes from dorset, used to make pipe-bombs when he was a kid. he and some of his mates took a dislike to a local farmer (i think he used to leave carcases on his land to attract foxes so that they could be hunted, or something, which is both cruel and illegal). Anyway, they put a pipe-bomb in his tractor's enjine one night and writ the entire thing off. addmitedly it wasnt plastiq, but it was still a bomb, and it was made by kids. a remote farm could quite easaly, id assume, churn out high explosives if the people operating the project were chemists. Anyway, you can get a huge explosion without resorting to high-explosives. stopping them obtaining/making explosives would be practically impossible, i should think.

Like i said' date=' and without meaning any disrespect to the victims, thisll get shrugged off pretty quickly. We have years of experience of not letting terrorists bully us. Busses, surface trains and part of the underground are already back up and running 1. The G8 summit is continuing2. things in general are continuing. with reguards to the olympics, there will a £224m security plan3, in possibly the most frequently terrorist-bombed developed city in the world. Im sure things will be fine. and if not: meh. you cant worry about it, cos thats what the terrorists want. we have police, military intelligence and security planners who are payed to worry, so i dont see why us civvies should. could you make a bomb that big at home? I reacon I could make one of a similar yield as was used on the bus (tho not small enough to be carried in a bag, addmitedly). I reacon itd be possible with the know-how. do they know what the explosive was yet?

and apparently, if you enter 9 11 in microsoft word, and select 'wingdings' as your font, the 9 is an aeroplane, and each of the 1s is a tower... so you get a plane flying towards two towers. however, if you look for clues/patterns etc hard enough, then some will show up, reguardless of wether theyre there or not. tbh, i wouldnt be surprised if some kind of symbolism were generally used, but itd be hard to use it to predict future attacks. especially if the date and place are linked. i would assume that virtually every day, there are several places in the world where an attack would have some kind of numeric significance. anyway, the attack on london coinsided with the G8 conference. thusly, and in no particular order: 1) it impacted the world more, as they were all watching the UK due to its hosting of the G8. "the UK was attacked whilst our president was there" sounds better, from a terrorists point of view, than simply "the UK was attacked". 2) lots of police and medics had been drafted up to gleneagles to help deal with the riots and 1,000,000ish protesters, which i would assume left london with less emergency services than theyd normally have, and the surrounding areas with less spare police/medics to send to london to support. 3)halting the G8 summit, between 8 powerful nations, would have been a pretty big psycological victory for the terrorists. It also happened the day after britain won the right to host the 2012 olimpic games, which kinda put a dampener on the celebrations and may or may not have been coincidental. any numeric significance to the date or the number of letters in the foreighn versions of the name london were probably coincidental.

im usually more agreable in the morning if i have company, as long as it is either a)bearing tea, or b)naked, or preferably c)both. so waking up next to me is fine. waking me up is not, as evidenced by the fact that it is usually done by my housemates from a distance, using projectiles. yup, thats the one.

iv never got this 'buzz' which i hear people talk about (not from alcohol, anyway). Id describe what i get as more of a 'slur'. Its still fun, but not really what id call a buzz it tends to feel like iv just woken up, but without the inclanation to kill people (ie, i am incoherant, cannot walk strait, everything is blurry, i cannot think strait/fast, i become extremely horney, need to pee and want to go back to bed). theres never a 'buzz'

My main concern is that we dont have any 'lets go beat up some muslims' shit as a result (btw, the british muslim organisation has already heavily condemed the muslims who did this) Other than that, daves right. the UK has an attitude that deals well with this kind of thing. callouse as this may seem, this'll get 'shrugged off' pretty soon: the IRA have bombed us before, and we always mourne, but get strait back on with things: the tube and busses will be up and running pretty soon, planning will go on for the olympics pretty soon, the G8 summit will continue (apparently the prime-minister is headed back tonight to continue it)... the terrorists will have accomplished very little exept to incur some retaliation (which i hope is moderated with common sence). and: cheers, pangaloss.

if you drink a beer, about 5 minits later you will have the urge to pee wether you have a coffe or not. What happens to a cell when it is exposed to adrenaline: upon binding adrenaline (aka epinephrine), the transmembranal β-adrenogenic receptor will phosphoralise its associated G-protein (Gs). Gs will then activate adenylyl cyclase, an enzyme that catalyses the conversion of ATP into cyclic adenase monophosphate (cAMP). cAMP activates protein kinase A, which in turn phosphorylates select proteins to initiate the cellular response to epinephrine. Cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase (CNPD) converts cAMP into AMP to limit the longevity of the epinephrine responce Caffien, like all methylxanthines, interferes with CNPD, having the effect of suppressing the cells ability to 'reset' itself after being exposed to adrenaline: essentially increasing the effects of the adrenalin which is floating about in your system. in quite a few ways the effects of adrenaline (being a central nervouse system stimulant etc) are the opposite to the effects of alcohol and so caffine, by increasing the effects of adrenaline, would have some counter-acting/antidote effects towards alcohol; but it is relatively short-lived, and has nothing to do with caffiens diuretic properties. (spot the guy whos had to do an essay on methylxanthines)

just saw 33 confirmed fatalities on bbc news 24

as i understand it, the problem is that all of the instalations which are required to make nuclear warheads could be used for other purposes... from my very scetchy memory, heavy water is required (ditrium2O) to enritch the uranium, but it can also be used to prep the nuclear material for use in reactors... uranium mines are obviously required for both nuclear warheads and nuclear generators... rocketry factories are required for conventional missiles. basically, a national nuclear-power program, combined with a few instalations to safely dispose of the nuclear waste, and some conventional rocketry instalations, would allow the production of nuclear warheads. so its possible they could make them without us having clear evidence that they are doing so. but considering how many nukes the US and western europe have, and how scared we all are of a nuclear holocaust, i dont believe that any country, no matter how rabid its leader, would ever be stupid enough to actually launch a nuke... the entire world would unite against them through fear.

"arab intelligence services, who moniter the activities of al kaidea, have told the BBC that todays activites are almost certainly the work of al kaida" Metropolitan police chief says to londoners "stay where you are, and dont phone the emergency services unless your life is threatened", whilst they deal with the situation (source: BBC News 24)

apparently there was a power-surge that could have explained the explosions on the underground, but the national grid has now stated that that was unlikely to be the cause. Its still not confirmed as a terrorist attack, but there seems a number of underground trains and a bus involved, which makes it unlikely (but not impossible) to be attributable to accident. Last I saw, there were 90 casualties and 'some' fatalities. current advice, to those in london, is to not make unnessesary journies so as not to impede the emergency services. FYI, the underground and zone-1 busses will be inoperational for the moment. (above from BBC News 24).

apostrophies seperate sylables, underlines indicate emphasis, dash = draw end of sylable out, and . = slight pause inbetween sylables: dee'ox'ee'rI'bow'new'clay'ic.a'sid " rI " is pronounsed as a soft 'eye' with a short, lower-case 'r' sound at the beginning, hence rI (or r eye, i suppose), as in riot or bride (not as in rib or frisbee) its normaly broken down into 4 'bits' when spoken: 'deoxy ribo nucleic acid', although iv heard it said with more emphasis on, and an elongation of, the 'rI' bit of ' rI'bow ' , with a little gap in before the 'bow', like this: deoxy ri-bo nucleic acid or dee'ox'ee'rI--.bow'new'clay'ic.a'sid or you could just pronounce it dee.en.ay

no-ones worried that the comet might return fire? Or get thrown off course and into the sun, which would then explode? Pangaloss is right, the dooms-dayers are getting lazy.

I like the one that claims that flourine is a psychoactive drug that makes us more submissive and compliant, and thats why the govournment adds it to our tap water.
