Cancer is a disease that has many forms, so to cure it you need a different "anti-agent" as you call it for each form. Some cancers are age-related, others are not, each occurs via a different pathway. I totally doubt that one magic bullet will cure all cancers. That is why despite many millions of dollars/pounds being funneled into cancer research each year there has been no "cure" for cancer. Indeed you could argue that this money might be better spent researching diseases we know might give a better "return" but are sidelined for the more politically correct diseases such as cancer. Sorry to be cynical but that's the way it is.

Hi Just wanted to check in since I've been so bloody busy over the last few months that I have'nt posted for what seems like decades. How is everyone? By the way...since I couldn't access the chat thing I just decided to do this post instead? How is Blike? How is Fafalone? How is YT? How is anyone I used to know? Does anyone even remember me?

personally....I'd talk to a friendly Bedouin or Tuareg tribesman...if anybody knows the lowdown on desert life it'd be them.

Coquina I don't know Kilbride church but that's just probably because I was a kid....I was born in Bridge of Allan, we moved from the area, then moved back for 2 years when I was 11 years old before moving on again (as a county policeman my Dad got moved around a great deal). What I will say is this...the tall monument you heard of may well be the Wallace monument ...dedicated to William Wallace...aka Braveheart who fought the English at the end of the 13th century and who the Mel Gibson film "Braveheart" is about. He was quite a character and what amuses us here in Scotland is the fact that a 6' 4" character (see his broadsword on display in the monument) was played by Gibson who is all of 5' 9". That said, the film does stir the blood somewhat....I too hope you get to come over here one day. But....if I find the time one day I may very well try to locate Kilbride church and see if I can find any Locketts...??

Just had to reply to this...I was born in what is technically Bridge of Allan which is a little town just outside Stirling in Scotland. I also lived just up the road for 3 years in Dunblane (where the awful tragedy took place) when I was just 9-12 years old. Bridge of Allan used to have the most excellent cafe that sold the best ice-cream ever (true old secret Italian recipe)...don't know if it's still there. And Stirling University is really more in Bridge of Allan than Stirling in my humble opinion. As to my parents.....they are just great, Dad's a retired policeman and Mum is a real housewife/mum. Even though we are all grown up intelligent people we still value their advice because they just know what makes each and every one of us tick.

OK...I did a little tiny bit of neurobiology and I'm by no means an expert but I rather think the brain of a person (i.e. Homo sapiens) is vastly complicated....I look forward to you publications in peer reviewed journals...when might they appear?

By the way it should really be Dr Bridget Jones postdoc diary. Those of you who work in the real world of labs will get this 100%.

oooh....my sympathies...my husband once got a bite from some unidentified insect and ended up with a prescription for what can only be described as "horse pills"...they played havoc with his system and he had to go onto something milder. In fairness, he DID have the warning red tracks up his arm from the bite site so that was why they put him on the strong guns. I hope you feel better soon YT.

By the way, Sayonara and others.....I'm off to Paris on a work related thing....how cool is that!!! Except I'll probably get hideously lost on the old metro system. Off to see a person who can do PCR on phenomenally small amounts of DNA.

OK...I tried the old Java nonsense...it was a no-show....same window....no chat ....now I really know I'm stupid

I'm pretty mad at my highschool/middleschool teachers

CPL.Luke...maybe a spelling and punctuation course would be of benefit to you? I was under the impression that it was "sophomore" ...but hey....what do I know .....I'm Scottish (and therefore British by default). I'm sorry if I sound like a miserable old bag (which I am of course) but I just had a summer student who drove me mad with his appalling English. -
Are you totally sure we are the only ones to use medicine....what about the great apes?.......I'm guessing you have knowledge that I don't.....i.e. that they don't self-medicate? Anyway, if we as humans can circumvent evolution by developing medicines, is that not evolution in action? We have evolved the brain type that can work out solutions, therefore we have the edge surely? And don't sweat it...if we have gone too far, we will be wiped out when we can't successfully reproduce without major intervention. And anyway...your first sentence ...is that true....surely it must be turned on it's head....if the individual in a society has an advantage it is more likely to survive and reproduce???
