  1. Don't wanna go to another chatroom I like the people on THIS one.
  2. Ha!!....and cHIs- is from Inverness too. AND I've never seen you (Miseria and cHIs-) in the same room together.
  3. Hmm.....let me see? Do I want an icon or do I want to be unique. One thing's for sure I don't want a Daisy - shy little flower I aint!!! I see myself more as a Celtic princess (smirk). If you find any icons that fit the bill then you'd have to put it next to my name for me because I wouldn't have a Scooby Doo!!!
  4. Mine is a play on one of my real names.
  5. Well I'm a Scot too and I don't mind being called a Jock - better than a limey or a whingeing Pom. Anyway, considering the amount of emigrants and pioneers we have sent out into the world we probably do rule it in a sense - even if you look just at our UK Westminster parliament the Scots seem to occupy a fair number of important positions. Just a pity we can't get our own parliament sorted out.
  6. You surely don't mean that Scottish people (Jocks) and Non-Educated Delinquents (NEDS) are going to inherit the earth? Explain please. I mean I'd love it if we Scots inherited the earth but I don't see it happening.
  7. Anyone out there with any experience? I'd be grateful for a link to a good trouble-shooting guide. I've been embarked on this for a few weeks but never having done it before I'm not too aware of the pitfalls. Any good websites gratefully recieved!!
  8. Aaawwww...where'd the chatroom go? Me no likee. I have a sad life...I don't ask much......what happened to the chat room? Apalling as it may seem, I quite enjoyed my little forays into the world of chat........it threw up some very interesting things. And now I'm having withdrawal sypmtoms....yes, yes,.....I know I need to get a life! Any chance it will appear again?
  9. what girl...do tell.
  10. OK this should very properly be in neuro but I'm lazy (sue me). What do you think of the ADHD/ADD phenomenon? I am not too convinced that SO MANY kids can all be diagnosed with this. I think that a lot of these kids are understimulated and downright bored. I would be really interested if anyone has a great review they can reference that sets it all out there. I personally think that some of these kids are just not being well guided ...but no doubt some of you think differently, so let's hear it. I attended a seminar on this subject given by a researcher in this area and I just reckoned that the diagnosis of ADHD/ADD was so broad and subjective that I wasn't convinced. Please educate me.
  11. Well I just love Bart...he reminds me of me at that age. A constant trouble maker but with a far lower IQ naturally.
  12. Having just found out that one of my fellow graduands has died I was a bit shell shocked. I was a mature student so she was a good bit younger than me and can only have been about 31 or so. It made me think about my own mortality and what legacy i'd like to leave behind. I'd like to known as a cool Mum (which my kids friends think I am but not my kids...haha), a not too shabby scientist and most importantly a person who made others feel good. I think I'm basically OK but in some ways I'm a doormat so that's the only thing I'd like to change.......what would the rest of you like to change or what would you like your legacy to be?
  13. Happy Birthday Blike!!!! You have the same birthday as my brother. That makes you a ....what?? Gemini? split personality, hahaha....J/K.
  14. yeah!!!......let's hear it for the boy(Blike).!!!!!
  15. Has the chatroom gone forever or is it just something I'm doing wrong? Did I mortally offend people and now I'm not allowed on it or did the maintenance thingy (sorry about the technical language) do something terminal? I have been "away" due to various commitments and now I'm bewildered.

    whatever next

I don't know....I turn my back for a few minutes and not only have you re-vamped the whole site but now I can't get into the chatroom!!! Is it me or is there a problem?
  17. They probably did use some kind of computer modelling system but what they can't surely predict is the type of natural event that will result in a major "evolutionary upheaval". My understanding of punctuated equilibrium is that big evolutionary changes occur during big natural events, such as meteorites hitting the earth (extinction of dinosaurs etc). Now I know that to some extent these events can be predicted but what you can't really predict is the response of particular species unless you know every complex interaction of genes that might allow an organism to survive - including transcriptional events that occur under stress. I suppose they used educated guesses -but they aren't always correct!! Beauty of this type of programme is that they can present it as fact and it's already out there before anyone can argue about it. And anyway...isn't "interesting programme on the Discovery channel" an oxymoron?
  18. My husband likes "Voyager" - could it be 7 of 9? Yes, most definitely it could.
  19. Well, in Daisy's ideal world everyone gets treated no matter what. I realise that someone foots the bill at the end of the day but I really do wish for a world where medical care does NOT come down to money and everyone gets what they need - illegal immigrant or not. I know this is impossible but it's what I truly wish for. I hate when life and death issues come down to money but I don't have an answer - I'm not an accountant (thank God). Oh dear I've gone all maudlin and sentimental - slap me someone.
  20. Talking of reality TV.... I have (rather sadly) just seen the start of the new UK Big Brother. I think we watch it out of horrified fascination mostly -thinking smugly to ourselves "I would NEVER behave like that on national TV". Maybe I have a nasty streak but I rather like watching people make complete prats of themselves. And there is also something entertaining in a sneaky kind of way about spying on people. Well, at least I admit to being sad.

    Chat times

Between 5pm and 6pm EST (10pm-11pm for me) any day is convenient for me - see how precise I am?

    Favourite books

Anyone read Stephen Donaldson's "Gap" series? I loved them but I didn't understand all of the technical stuff - great story though (hmm...I must go and re-read them). I invested in a set of Vikram Seth's "A Suitable Boy" (charity shop about five quid) but I can't seem to find the time to read them, although I can just tell form my first attempt that I will love it.
  24. Having just seen a programme about British TV's "The Big Read" where people nominate the 100 best books of all time, I wondered what you all read. I have very wide ranging tastes from Dickens to Stephen King, Jane Austen to Tolkein, Terry Pratchett to Dorothy Dunnett. What do you all like? i would find it impossible to pick one best ever book - what about A.A. Milne's Winnie -the - Pooh, Roald Dahl's Matilda, the list is absolutely endless. I also love the "Dune" series by Frank Herbert. May I hear your thoughts?
