Hello there vixenell....pleased to meet you. Not many women around here but we try!!

I just wanted to add my season's greetings to all of you .you guys rock!! To quote one of my fave authors - and paraphrase a bit - "you are most severely cool". Very best wishes to you, one and all, for Christmas and the New Year (and for the Scots amongst you; have a rip-roaring Hogmanay).

Saw it last night......loved it. A few minor changes from the book but nothing of any consequence and the action was indeed very cool. A round of applause went round the audience at one point! A totally cool film in my opinion.

YT...as far as I know they still use alcohol swabs...certainly when they take blood samples, so I can't imagine it would be any different regarding injections. What do you reckon they use as an alternative? Because they'd have to be using an alternative sterilising agent.

Quick update....I start tomorrow (Wednesday) and yes Blike..it's research still but a completely different area! I'm so happy I could cry...but I never do that so I won't.

Hmm..... in theory "no child left behind" is a most admirable idea. But how to go about it? I will most probably get loads of abuse heaped on me now but I'll say it anyway..."if you pay peanuts you get monkeys" and in Britain we don't pay our teachers a fantastic wage..Before you all jump on me, I have known fantastic teachers who have ALWAYS wanted to teach and inspire and who really did have a true vocation...but I've also known those who went into teaching because their degree wasn't good enough to do anything else. But yet they have been entrusted with educating our young. As to penalising schools who may have an "underprivileged catchment area"...you can't measure success by exam results...only by how many kids they've managed to guide and set on a path to some kind of success, whether it's helping them into a trade or even stopping them from playing truant. And that doesn't show up in league tables. I repeat....I know there are fantastic teachers out there but the profession does also attract those who can't use their degree for anything else. I have kids....I know what I'm talking about.

I just went to chat and ....I was the only person there! That's never happened to me before) and I can't say I liked it much. A bit creepy if truth be told.

Heh.....I did it. I got the job I was interviewed for on Monday! I accepted and I start next week straight after my present contract ends. By the way YT, thanks very much for the good luck message I cancelled the other interview and told the PI personally and he was fine.

Thanks folks for all the replies....I'm just an old worrier who jumps aeons ahead of things. Problem is that both jobs are in the same dept. which is small and gossip gets around anyway (no matter how secretive you are). But anyway, I'm going to play it by ear and see what happens. I will survive (as Gloria said). I try not to worry about jobs too much - where does it get you except an early grave.

I have 2 interviews lined up....4 days apart. If I get offered the Ist job which sounds very interesting.... if I get offered it can i in all conscience ask them to wait till I've been to the 2nd interview? Which also sounds interesting. I know both of the PI's personally and I have expertise in each field but ....god...I don't know which will be the best bet for future career prospects. I wish someone would just come along and say.."Hey, here's what you should do". If I get offered the 1st job I then have to a) decide if I'm taking it and b) go to the guy offering the 2nd one and tell him that. What's a girl to do??

Well, I think that the reason people are slow to respond is because this is a very emotive topic...a real hot potato. I have my own views about abortion which I tend not to discuss because I believe it's a very personal judgement. But I will say this...I think it's a very uncomfortable state of affairs to be able to abort foetuses at a late stage when modern medicine can keep prem babies as early as 22-24 weeks alive. It's probably very distressing for medical staff to be present in these circumstances too, even though they're only "doing their job". I have heard the horror stories....of aborted foetuses that were breathing etc. and I can't imagine a more difficult and distressing situation if it's true.

I refuse to be beaten by this thing I WILL have an avatar one day!!! Everytime I try to download they're too big or some such crap.....and I also think I may have inadvertently downloaded something very unsavoury...but I'm not sure!...hope not or maybe I'll get arrested.

For those of you who aren't British this is not a rude statement!! I'm just annoyed that when I go into the chatroom there are those (no names, no pack drill) who do not respond. I realise I have found my niche....haranguing chatroom types who do not chat!!! What are you doing there? Why enter a chatroom if you don't chat? What are you thinking? What is the meaning of life....OK...I've gone too far but c'mon peeps....a chat room is for chatting surely....and those of you who do the "away" thing should just log off and not be a pain to others. Be warned peeps...I'm most probably going to be unemployed in a week or two so I shall be surfing and insulting more than usual!!

err..thing is....what do I do now to down load the one I like?......so sorry (did any of you ever read Shogun?) but I don't know what to do now!...Ha ha! this is my strategy for coping with life....act dumb and people will do stuff for you. Seriously, I don't know how to do this stuff so someone is going to have to come over here, stay at my house, eat my food, drink my beer and install my avatar. Or I could just ask my "little boy" of 6' 3" to do it?.

I've often wondered about a couple of things........if I was growing up in Nazi Germany would I have stood up against the regime and helped Jewish people...or would I have accepted the propaganda of the day and been one of the masses? If I had grown up in the deep south of the USA would I have fought for the rights of black people? If I WAS black/Jewish would I have had courage to stand up for my rights? I hope I would have had courage but I don't really know. I was raised in a liberal environment but my beliefs have never been "tested" so I just wondered how many of you think you would have had the courage to rise to the challenge of standing up for honour and what's right? I'm really not sure if I would have the raw physical courage....although I'd hope I would have it. I do know that I hate injustice and lies but would I put my life on the line if it was required...I don't know.
