No "Stephy"....I don't have a Nobel but I do science for real....and no my ego isn't bruised....why would it be? How odd that you should think that. I'm a research scientist which is why I gravitated towards a science forum (!!).... so I kind of like chatting to young'uns who are interested in science. I'm married with two teenage kids so I'm no spring chicken but I like meeting people even on the net. It keeps me young but I'm mature enough to know how to have a bit of a laugh without causing offence or being crude. And I don't really feel the need to be your friend...I have a few of those already. Sorry, but you have set yourself up for insults by using innuendo and not really being interested in science. These are my opinions and not necessarily reflected by the "management".

Sometime, somewhere I seem to remember reading about a "hairy eared" condition that was sex-linked (i.e. it only showed up in males) in a particular tribe....try a google search.

And before any of you start lecturing....I'm probably more aware of the dangers than any of you, so don't bother. Nicotine is an incredibly strong addiction (stronger than heroine apparently) and not easy to kick. If it pleases any of the sanctimonious amongst you I'll probably die of lung cancer after I've filled the government coffers with a substantial amount of tax revenue from tobacco. Incidentally, don't you think fat people should be taxed on hamburgers and chips etc.? Seems only fair to me....I'm not fat but I'll be paying for fat people... and I'm led to believe that the tax revenue from smoking more than covers the health costs that smokers incur...unlike the health costs of fat people. But I'm sure someone out there will disagree!! The UK government gets a huge amount of revenue from smokers and I'm just curious to know what they spend it on....it runs into 10's (if not 100's) of BILLIONS.

Say it once and say it loud "I smoke and I'm proud"!! Well.....actually I'm not proud but I DO smoke.... yes yes, I know it'll kill me if malignant melanoma or bowel/colon cancer doesn't (I have red/fair hair and intestinal cancers run in the family) but I'm hooked, what can I say??

Dudde, I'm terribly sorry to reply so late....but here goes...I'm 43 and thank you for the "happy birthday"....yes I realise I'm an old git but I'm happy with my life (apart from impending unemployment that is!!).

This totally confirms my opinion of men....committed to their life's work until a likely looking filly turns up!! But I suspect "filly" is a misnomer.

Personally I don't believe that the sins of the fathers should be visited on the children...or whatever the correct quotation is. Payment or financial gain was not really my main point....just my cynical view taking over. But I do know that there are some researchers who have a pet technique which they tend to use to investigate a broad range of questions within a particular field. Of course if your topic is highly specialised then it will dictate method but equally I know people who get bees in their bonnets about some newly developed technique and want to apply it to evrything they can get their hands on.

I tried to answer a thread....and I couldn't....outrage.....did someone ban me????? Anyway....has Christmas arrived even earlier this year? All the big chain shops have their stock in.....outrageous.....humbug!!!

By the way....purely coincidentally....I had an Aunt who was killed by lightning on the golf course many years ago.
