  1. to get the metal back out of mgo then your gonna need a more reactive metal then Mg to react with the MgO to displcae the Mg
  2. just remember this for distance, the longer the barrel the more distance. And when i make fuses for my firecrackers/rockets/fountains/mines/watever i use tissue paper with meal powder in it and rolled up. Meal is just fine ball milled black powder.
  3. i was going to make a comprssed air spud cannon but decides not to because you need a valve that can open very rapidly (ball valve) and can let through lots of air. The valve and other hardware would cost a fourtone so i decided the only way to go would make one with a disposable 16oz propane tank and a fuel/air mixer. the thing would be steel. I have a big idea but dont live on acreage so i probaly wouldnt use it. Insead i went of and made a compressed air air gun that shoots anything the size of a pencil (yes, screws\nails) at a high velocity.

  7. i saw that movie a long time ago and cant realy remember it. Didnt they make there rocket engines from steal or something (seems dangerous). I KNOW THEY USED SOMETHING REALY HOT BURNING BECAuse they had to get "railroad" steel.
  8. ya, i do that alot. I have a mapp gas hose torch so i can melt anything up to copper. My favorite casting metals are Al and Zn becasue they melt at low temps and a resonably strong for there Mp. Iva mad all kinds of things. I make the molds out of plaster of paris. I tried some bottle rockets with the nozzle made of plaster of paris and it worked excellent.

  10. ya, i use fine BP or granulated BP. Granulated seems to be way better becasue it burns a a amazingly higher rate. I dont make flash powder firecrackers, too dangerous.

    or if you blow out a normal cnadle and hold a flame a few inches above the smoldering candle in the smoke the candle will relight without touching the wick.
  12. thats is a hard thing to think about. I voted no, but i dont knw. I just cant imagine there being more than atoms on earth, but then again...... its difficult to think about becase we know absolutely nothing about our universe (ok, just alittle)

  14. Thats funny the original poster posted this because i thinl about this all the time. I say we get a huge metal cube with a small core, take it out into the dessert and try it. Im not saying "we, at science forum'' try it, but scientist, a team, to see what will happen. Maybe something amazing will happen. Maybe. Its just such a wierd thing to think about realy.
  15. http://unitednuclear.com/chem.htm there uranium on this page. But its depleted so its "safe" and not "bomb grade (thank god)" but its still uranium. Expensive!!! There where i buy some of my chemicals. The rest i make or buy on ebay.

    an alternate energy to what type of energy (elctrical, heat, light, ect). Please give more info.
  18. I know many pyrotechnic composition's burn rate increase with pressure. Just how is this? i do not understand. What i mean is how does it begin to burn so fast that a "firecracker" vilently explodes. I understand why the case explodes, but am wondering why the Bp begins to burn so fast in it. Is it the particles being pushed together or something. I just cant visualize it.

  20. i just cant imagine using chemicals to remove rust (well, i can but to me its impracticle) because i do alot of metal work (swords, lab equipment, brazing, airguns, and mechanical parts, oh and metal art) and i always use abrasives. I would take 150 grit sand paper and give it a good rubbin till its free off rust, then hit it with some 200 grit, then some 300 grit, then give it a good rubbing with steal wool, then rub it good a few times with a good polishing compound thats for steal (iron). If done right you should get a buitiful shine, and itll be nice and smooth. I wish i had a block steal. I would put it in the drill press and drill as many holes a possible to get a "hive effect" and then spray the whole thing with laquer then put it on my dresser for a year. As you can see i like metals and working with metals.
  21. Yes but they are much harder to create. They can probaly only occur under laboratory conditions. Unlike silver.

  23. I dont get it why is it so hard for you to understand that silver is more reactive than gold. GOLD IS MORE NOBLE THAN SILVER! Wait, 5614, are you saying what i said is wrong or what budellegraph (or watever ) said is wrong?
  24. silver also tarnishes fairly quick in the presence of sulfur.
  25. are you on crack. Gold is not more reactive than silver.
