  1. Captain Panic: I had look up at the link given but why it is bernouli equation? As far as we understand, there is no laminar or turbulence flow involved because this is just a simple hydrostatic force on submerged planes right? So we put some calculation in the picture and conclude that the smaller area of contact between fluid and the main piston the more force will be transferred.
  2. Yes, you are right and i just notice that. So.. how about if i put a one way valve between the main valve and the piston "blue color"? or perhaps can you suggest me anything better. Also, how about if i change oil with gas? this should increase the force transferred right??. Drawing is easy but it sure gonna make me crazy when i have to apply the control engineering and some mathematical modelling especially if using matlab which i'm sucked most....
  3. erm.. there will be something (blue thing in picture) that push the oil not directly from the sea water. The valve (5) is the thing that make the system reset. when the valve opened, the hydraulic system will push up the piston. when the valve closed, no more pressure and the weight push back the oil at initial state. Will this work? your opinion and suggestion very much appreciated
  4. You cannot get energy from the high pressure of the water at great depth. If you push a pipe (open at both ends) into the depths of the ocean, to 1000 meter or more, then nothing happens. Water doesn't suddenly go up through the pipe. Sure, this is what i misunderstood in our 1st design. So, in the 2nd design we try to put a "hydraulic jack" into the system. a balloon will explode due to expansion at high altitude and by contraction at -ve altitude because of the pressure different between the inner and the outer of the balloon right?. So this design use this terminology and that's why i change this design into a closed system. when the main valve opened, the higher pressure from the outside will push the hydraulic jack.
  5. Then how about this? The real problem with this design is how to connect that "wing" with the valve which is at different altitude. right now my group still don't come up with any good idea instead just being obsessed with underwater pressure. Perhaps this is the most tough coursework that we have. p/s: once again, sorry with that annoying stamp
  6. that's really help. thanks. but if we don't have atomic force microscope can we use FESEM (field electron scanning microscope)?
  7. Thanks Mr.Skeptic, I think i misunderstood about the underwater pressure, need to open fluid mechanics text book again. Thanks again
  8. Thanks CP About the bottom wave: i adopt it from an existing devices called "Wave Roller" (below) About the pressure: did you mean i need to redesign my devices at sea level? actually i put a value (1000m-2000m) for a purpose, i thought the atmospheric pressure + water pressure would be so great at that deep and enough to produce force to move the piston
  9. Good day, Our lecturer give us an assignment on renewable energy, he want us to design at least one method of harnessing power from the ocean which still do not exist. So that's why i attached the picture and hope a +ve comment from you guys. Thanks in advance p/s: sorry about the mark at the bottom of the picture, i'm in hurry actually
  10. I also fell suspicious on that picture but believe or not, tokay gecko wasn't that cheap in southeast asia. I copy paste some link below to prove what i said and if you don't understand the malay word i can translate it for you.Malaysian E-bay My link Back to science, can someone verify this - Tri- Hexapentaphenicol (IUPAC nomenclature). This is the chemical substance that people claim can fight HIV also H1N1 virus and it can be found in gecko's saliva (or its venom perhaps?). I have no intention to make any scams here Moontanman. I just fell curious when anyone here talking about that lizard. i post it here just to share with our members and expect some good feedback. Not something that make me look stupid. Peace B)

hmm...you know, they say that when you stop trying to find love, it comes to you. perhaps you've been trying a bit too much, and it shows, so it scares girls away? Maybe try being friends with girls first (without any expectation of them becoming your gf). That way, you'll start understanding girls a bit more and have more experience in how to act around them - which might help in the long run when it comes to finding a gf :)

yep, i couldn't agree more with your advice but actually it's quite hard for me to approach a girl first and i never tell a girl first that i like him. So.. trying being friends with girls is kinda difficult for me. Of course they always said that i'm an arrogant guy, but you know.. i cannot bring my self to show my true self because of that problem to "must stay Cool in front of the girl!!". In reality, i'm very friendly actually :]

The problem is that "staying cool" in fromt of the girl is faking it. Women aren't stupid and they'll pick up on it right away, after all you're lying to her.

Try "being yourself" for a change. You never know, maybe some of the women you know will like that guy.

  12. Whew.. fifty, sixty bucks? Which country you live? i want to book my ticket now:lol: No joke, at Malaysia this lizard has no place to hide, people are searching for it and some of them willing to sleep in jungle for few week just to find it. The price is according to its weight.. 300gram++ gecko can be sold at RM 10k ( USD 3+++). The buyers usually from china and Japan. Check out the giant gecko found at Borneo island below: Its weight is around 64 KILOGRAM! and sold at price of RM 1 Million per Kg!! But i heard that poor lizard end up on dinner plate in China.
  13. But the price isn't a rumour... i have friend who sold a 400 grams gecko which he catch at phuket thailand with a price of USD 20,000. He quit his job and become a gecko hunter. Why nobody interested to reveal the truth about the myth that it can cure AIDS?
  14. This type of lizard is a phenomenal in my country right now.. everyone went into jungle searching for it.. I've heard that the enzyme from it's saliva can cure AIDS. That's why a price for an adult gecko can equalize to a C class Merc Benz.. So i want to know if there are scientific proof that it really can cure AIDS? thanks
  15. How about a sandwich material which consist of 3 different layers?. The inner layer must has less thermal conductivity than the outer layer, while the layer in between is a solid heat sink. What do you think?
  16. Can we see the molecular chain of polymers by using just an optical microscope with 100x magnification (max)?? thanks in advance..
  17. It will be more cool if the robot has its own leg and run like a human but due to mobility problem in the space i heard it was attached to wheel.
  18. "The crafts' design achieves staggering efficiency. It enables the land craft to travel at between 3 & 5 times the real wind speed, depending on the surface traction." My link
  19. How you know that?? if it's true, the probability should more than what DJ Bruce said. that damn fast man. If that the case, we really need Ultraman help..
  20. I forgot to put a letter K after 500. But 500K Tonne is still too far from reported by NASA, that was actually my assumption, hope NASA scientist don't just assume that it won't hit us later.
  21. How about we change the nuke's warhead with something like a boxing gloves? Err.. i mean something that can "punch" it or at least propels it away with decent velocity. Assume the velocity of apophis at 0.0001 mph and with its mass about 2.7E10kg so we have its momentum about 1207008Kg.M/s then if we have 2000kg missile which could boost up at Mach 3 we have its momentum about 2040000Kg.M/s So the asteroid could flung away~~~ Is it cool?
  22. uh oh.. i just know what solar sail is ~. And that was really cool idea.
  23. Sorry, my english weren't good so i can't see your idea IA. what do u mean by solar sails?
  24. Is it possible if we attached hundreds or may be thousand of remote controlled parachutes on that asteroid? until it got into atmosphere we deploy the parachutes and guide it to suitable land spot.. The weight of that rock may be around 500 tonnes, so how much parachutes we needed?
  25. My link This asteroid called apophis was discovered in 2004, predicted to be really closed to earth in 2036 (s*#t i'm just 46 at that time) but no harm was calculated by scientist. But, i want to talk for a worst thing that could be happen. As engineers or scientist, what the best solution you think to stop that asteroid from hitting earth.. shoot it or ask to Ultramen for help?
