i dont have any formal eduaction- everything i learned is from book and my dad. Im taking chemistry next yr, but htis yr i had to take biology.
-
oh and on the link scroll down a bit to find the fuel cell
-
i guess its not as easy as i thought. But did you check out that/this site:http://genchem.chem.wisc.edu/demonstrations/Gen_Chem_Pages/17electropage/electromain.htm and di u figure out how they made that one to work? but if its just as hard as in the link i wont bother trying. Great explanation though
-
i have done it before with manganese dioxide already
-
someones bound to actually know
-
ive dun ammonia, yes its stuck to especially the smell, i havent done h2so4 yt but will.
-
any one work for hydrogen research for Ford or Bmw?
-
surely someone should know how or at least have an idea how. Maybe YT knows.
-
not sure if thats specific enough
-
,ore specifically synthesis, gases, oxidation, and just plain cool reactions.
-
well im intersted in chemistry.

does anyone know a good place to start with rocketry?
akcapr replied to Ice_Phoenix87's topic in Chemistry
ive been making rockets for a few months, and i never bought estes ones . what i do is make tubes by wrapping paper grocery bag strips around a dowel while adding glue then i cook inthe oven. When hard i take powdered cat litter and pound it with a hammer into the bottom"nozzle" end of the tube. It gets rock hard, then i drill a hole for nozzle. For the propellant i use Kno3 (65% by weight) 25% powdered sugar, 15% corn syrup, and a tiny bit of Fe2O3 (a catalyst that make it burn faster). I use a skewer to make the core to make it burn faster. I seal the end with epoxy. This non-ejection motor is good for strapping to "rocket cars" or what not. To make an ejection one instead of sealing up the end with epoxy, take a piece of propellaNT and plug up the end flush with the casing with NO core (the delay). Then add epoxy to seal the end. When hard, drill into it with a tiny drill bit until you hit the delay. Then add like 2-3 grams of blackpowder for the ejection and walla!! a motor as good as estes for around a dollar total cost. It takes paractice to make good casings, good propellant, and good nozzles. The biggest problems i always had was the end seal or nozzle would blow out, but i fixed those by using epoxy for the end plug and alot (1/2 in- 2/3 in) of cat litter nozzle. this mixture will virtually never blow up and is quite safe. In my early months i used Potassium chlorate and sugar, about half of those exploded quite violently. -
ya but it has to be a fuel cell or it wouldnt make sense for my Hydrogen Fuel project im doing.
-
its only a penny
-
look for wat. im not quite sure
-
if u take fairly stronh HCl and add it to aluminum, after a minute to even 5 min it will get very exothermic and fairly violent and the reacton rate will get faster and faster, while on Mg it will just fizz right away if the surface is clean .

i got the idea at this site: http://genchem.chem.wisc.edu/demonstrations/Gen_Chem_Pages/17electropage/electromain.htm but i cant really figure out how it works
-
how i go about "exploring"?
-
it also lets of some steam which can make it burn a bit worse
-
how will this produce energy or electricity when ur adding it with batteries? I wanta cell to make electricity like a battery
-
I heard it was possible to make a fuel cell with 2 beakers and a salt bridege, one beaker with dilute acid, one with dilute base, and sometin with bubling o2 and h2 through it and sometin bout electrodes. Does anyone know a little better how i could make one. I thought it would be cool for my Hydrgoen fuel project im doing.

i have been doin this for a while many times. Take pennies and heat them over a burner until the glow. THe copper forms a sack with molten zinc inside. If you are holding the penny with pliers it will hang down. Take a sharp object and poke a hole in the sack and the molten zinc will pour out. I made a zinc dollar sign a while ago out of like 30 pennies of zinc (back then i had no idea it was zinc). so yes, hold it under direct flame for a minute or so.

my parent are chemist. Actually my dads a biochemist, moms a genetisist- they both have chems at work. I got about half of all my stuff from them. the rest i bought online

by the way i have been at library and internet and pretyt much already did all the cool things that those sources had. Im running out of stuff to do. See the problem with books and internet demos and such is that they all demosntrate principles and laws of chemistry. I just wanna do some cool stuff that isnt necesarily supposed to show how a "base can nutralize acid" or to demonstrate "boyles law". I just wanna do some cool reactions.
