  1. Say Im reading a paper on string theory and Im being told that superstrings live in a 10 dimensional world (9 spacial and 1 time) I cannot visualise the planckian size, curled up aditional 6 spacial dimensions, I just wonder trying to imagine this (unsuccesfuly ofcourse) and move on with the text. Say Im reading that LIGO detected gravity waves again...Im imediately imagining images of ripples in space. I literally see a short clip or images of space being distorted. I probably do that because I was taught that gravity is curvature of space time. Say Im being asked by my wife, what time are we going to visit my parrents tomorrow...I answer my wife that we should go see them around 16:00 and while being engaged in that answer, I see images of my folks's place in my mind, glimpses of their faces and so on. Is this more or less how everybody perceives information or can this be trained or altered to become more efficient? Is there a difference in how we perceive known and unknown information? I seem to digest all the input I receive by visualising it as some kind of images in my mind. Is this how you guys have it too or does this vary depending on education, training, gender and so on?

    Game of Thrones

Umm, sorry, that would be "Stranger Things"
  3. "The Red Pill" a documentary about a men's rights movement. A very eye opening documentary made by a feminist.

I'm not one to believe the mods ban people for that type of thing. At least I'm pretty sure.

We only ban people for persistent of egregious violations of the rules, not for posting topics that spark debate. You could always start a thread with a synopsis of the film.

Yes. And since me being the one to open a thread on this would serve as a catalist for my potential persistency of egregious rule violations I shall not do it. BTW...have you watched this documentary ?

  4. Not exactly a joke but darkly amusing.
  5. Nice to see theyre onto new successful collisions. I've been on a tour of LHC in 2013, the scale of this contraption is inredible. Met a lot of interesting people and even came back with a tshirt and some fridge particle magnets.
  6. Im sure there is some standalone software that can do that, at least logically it would seem that there has to be. Its probably a part of some bigger functiinality though...I've configured access lists on DNS on some HP rack server years ago and if I remember correctly it was a functionality within the servers network card dedicated software. Probably advanced servers can do this from within their configuration software. Couldnt you do it from within linux ?
  7. I think self awareness is very subjective and non-definable accurately. Its pretty safe to assume that a gorilla is self aware but it is also safe to assume that it is self aware on a different level of perception than myself for example. Is a bird self aware or a hamster or a fly? Humans might be considered not "self aware" being judged by a highly advanced alien species just like sime of us judge a fly not being self aware. Id say that every living organism is conscious within its own level of perception untill we define what consciousness is exactly and frankly, I dont think its ever happening.
  8. You are a classic example of the inverse ratio between the size of the mouth and the size of the brain.
  9. Some of these I had no idea about, very informative and interesting to a chemical layman like myself.
  10. I think that homophobic, hostile stances like the one you are presenting are far more detrimental to society than Aids or any other, modern disease including cancer.
  11. Okay, so dimreepr is tall. We got that established
  12. I read into Strings "blokes" in his post as both sexes. There is some merit to gay males being more promiscuous than gay women, though...just like there is merit to hetero males being more promiscuous than hetero women. Males are more pushy, straight forward, etc despite their sexual orientation. As far as homosexual males being promiscuous you can go to a local gay club on a saturday night and see for youreself
  13. Sounds like youre the observer type like myself. During my DJ'ing days in late 1990's and early 2000's Ive played gigs in a few gay clubs in Warsaw and have to say that these were probably the best gigs for me, not a single minute that I was bored and always felt safe and comfortable...with some minor exceptions where lots of drugs and alcohol played a role but nothing compared to "regular" gigs where bad things happened a lot more often. The story you told I've seen it many times and a lot more pronounced, it was always a feast for my curiosity of peoples behaviours. I think the human sexuality is extremely complex and diverse in its subtleties and in many cases it is so far fetched from my own boring, heterosexual nature that it is difficult for me to relate to. However...what always "amazed" me is the xenophobia and hostility towards gay people. I really feel sory for these guys and girls having to put up with so much horrible things in everyday life. At least in the old days that was the case...now there seems to be a social shift towards some weird, distorted forms of "tolerance" which take ridiculous shape in many cases. It seems that there is little chance we as a species to be able to find some middle ground in anything.
  14. There are also shades of in between sexual behaviours in humans. I remember watching a documentary years ago stating that there are far less strictly heterosexual and strictly homosexual people around than the "shades in between" people: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinsey_scale
  15. I wasnt aware of that Archie Bunker character but yes, one of the things which I learned from this forum is to look for any value added possible even in the most disgraceful, moronic posts/stances. Today is a good day and I managed to write what I have writen instead of bursting into flames in which case I don't write at all. Don't applaud me yet though, the guy might post something which might get me into burst mode. Hopefuly this gets closed before it happens.
  16. I say that JamieD's homophobic and moronic stance is a natural phenomena too. Nature brings us such diversity but only within humans we see such horrible, unjustified hostility which could be easly avoided by using a fraction of the neurons provided in our brains.
  17. Breathing is natural...just like serial killers, paedophiles, laughing - all natural. You don't see scientists working on artificially creating paedophiles in labs so yes, its a natural phenomena, just like anything else which was created by nature without intervention. Could you rephrase your question so it becomes more clear what you mean?

    Today I Learned

Since I haven't seen a convincing definition of "consciousness" I say they're both.

Yep, pretty embarrassing for me. +1

    Today I Learned

I think flies, cockroaches and other insects do not have a brain - just a simple nervous system. So their perception of everything has to be hardwired in to the nervous system by default. Cats are a different ball game I'm sure as they do posses a brain. What fascinated me about this is the relativistic aspect of time (phylosophical not mathematical)...makes me think about maximizing my own time here on earth.

    Today I Learned

Makes sense right? I was always fascinated how a fly seems to have ages of time while escaping my hand movement trying to catch it. Same with cats...their paw movements and reflexes in general are beyond a human. I also learned today that NASA denied a conspiracy theory about kidnapped children working as slaves on Mars. There is a conspiracy theory about Mars in which there is a colony there where kidnapped children work as slaves. The claims were made by a former CIA case officer on the radio talk show Infowars hosted by Alex Jones. http://www.techtimes.com/amp/articles/210884/20170630/nasa-denies-conspiracy-theory-about-kidnapped-children-working-as-mars-colony-slaves.htm The stamemet by NASA seems legit, this is what their spokesman seemed to have said: There are no humans on Mars. There are active rovers on Mars. There was a rumor going around last week that there werent. There are, Guy Webster, a spokesperson for Mars exploration at NASA, told The Daily Beast. But there are no humans. http://www.thedailybeast.com/nasa-denies-that-its-running-a-child-slave-colony-on-mars?via=twitter_page&utm_source=fark&utm_medium=website&utm_content=link&ICID=ref_fark

    Today I Learned

I learned that small animals perceive time at a greater resolution than humans. A fly can perceive up to 7 times more audio and visual information per second than a human. It would seem that small animals live shorter but faster lives, a dogs life of 15 years while experiencing time at a higher resolution might be just as "long" as a larger animals life living longer but at a lower time resolution. Fascinating...I wonder if Einstein had these kinds of thoughts while coming up with relativity. https://curiosity.com/topics/small-animals-perceive-the-world-in-slow-motion-curiosity/
  23. I assumed those two possibilities too. I leaned towards the second one (how many are actual scentists) but decided that I will make a joke to try to disarm imatfaal's agrevation (justified regardless of which one is true imo) instead of drilling to ask which one it is. These kinds of contexts work way better when dealt with while speaking live. This ended up weirdly.
  24. Thanks MigL, its good to know that at least one person gets what Im saying. I also want to let everybody know that I havent downvoted anyone in this thread.
