  1. Yep, like getting people onto operating tables so I hear.
  2. We had Feynman, Penrose a couple of Russians on the way and recently Hawking and Witten, they all worked with a whole lot more than each of their predecessors had available so I guess its the latter. Besides it gets harder the deeper we dig so its not fair to compare Einstein and say Witten recently. Nima Arkani Hamed seems to be the one talking most in the media about these things and his view seems to be equally clear as to that spacetime has got to go as he is clueless as to what to replace it with due to (please correct me if Im wrong) 11 orders of magnitude beyond what we can currently measure. Since I’m keen on finding out what makes gravity tick on the small scales before I die, I would rather see some great mind emerge and tackle this instead of just waiting for next generation of accelerators to go a few orders of magnitude higher in EV’s and create useless miniature black holes. The only holes I can poke in are in the floor mat when I drop my dumbells.
  3. The EPR paradox as far as I know is a QM thought experiment by Einstein/Podolski/Rosen which was done at times when only limited knowledge of QM was available, it's far from being a theory so I think it wouldn't be fair to compare a failed thought experiment basing on incomplete data to a theory or even a hypothesis. As for expanding on Einsteins GR, I think the main problem physics is having right now is the measurement limitation - we would need to measure several orders of magnitude smaller scales than we currently can in order to find any tangible thread to pull by to start confirming any shortcomings in GR. This would imply that if being severely limited by not being able to experimentally confirm anything on or below the Planck scales, we need a mind equally potent to Einstein to figure out anything relevant in the current situation in physics. Edward Witten is considered by most physicists to be a far more potent mathematician than Einstein and equally as witty in the field of physics yet as far as I know he's hitting walls for the past 15 years or so. I would presume we will need someone equall or beyond Einsteins genius to be able to expand on General Relativity and QM, it seems to me a giant leap has to be made.
  4. You mean expand not disprove, right?
  5. Besides the obvious difference between a religion and a cult in numbers of worshipers, isn’t majority of modern cults led by a living person treated like a deity by the worshipers where as in religions, a deity is a long time dead (or rather non existant) entity being worshiped? I also do not understand why the quarell about the differences between a cult and a religion, there obviously are differences depending on the countless types of religions and cults out there. Frankly I don’t get what you two are fighting about, theres a big drawer called „religious faith” inside which there are boxes with various cults and religions. There are differences but they all sit in a single drawer. Edit: Here a joke for both of you @dimreepr & @Moontanman: Atheism and Religion are two sides of the same coin. One relies on heads while the other is just based on tales.
  6. Sounds like aan idea. I think I will need to start with deciding what micro chip I need to control the BT operation with, ATMEL has ATINY85 (I use these for flashlight firmware) but Im not sure this will be sufficient for BT operation as its got only 8 in/out ports and BT (4.0?) probably needs more. There are some higher models of the ATMEL chips out there but Im not sure they will fit onto the electronic boards in the flashlight and the switch, I guess I need to start with figuring this out.
  7. Right, thanks for the info, I guesss NFC will not be useful for this application.
  8. Actually this emitter would be perfect if not for the high forward voltage. Its simiar in beam pattern to XPL but has a perfect, artifact less beam and very high CRi while producing simillar light intensity as the XPL. Its still great to use in multi cell applications where the voltage doesn’t drop so fast or with boost drivers. The range needs to be very short - switch on top of the gun on the barrel in the front and the light mounted just an inch or two away on the right side. I would need to squeeze the BT module and the chip either on the driver itself in the light (in the head) or in the tailcap. Switch will be even more of a problem because therese going to be even less room probably. The idea is to eliminate cabling between the light and the switch which cause problems when the soldiers operate inside buildings, the cables get in the way.
  9. I want to do this on a Surefire MD300 with a Malcoff head, its a small single CR123 light, the switch is a Surefire rifle switch, its all mounted on a Lewis Machine assault riffle. The LH351D unfortunately has a high Vf so its a no no at least for my current builds.
  10. The hc-05 looks like its several times too large for this, I would need the whole thing on the switch side to fit into say 8mm x 5mm at most so maybe smartphone type smaller module? I also havent figured out yet how to do permanent pairing, I wonder if there might be another technology besides BT to do this, maybe NFC?
  11. I’n thinking of doing a prototype of a remote bluetooth switch for a flashlight. The flashlight would have a BT module and a Li-Ion cell as a power source so there is no problem on this side, the switch would have to have a BT module and a small battery as a power source as well, I wonder if a small watch type CR2032 battery would be enough to power the BT module in the switch and perform switching? The distanse between the two devices would be 10cm at most. The switch has to do only on/off operation but a tiny battery indicator LED would be good too. What do you think? Will a small flat watch battery be enough to power this?
  12. Most probably a combination of a few factors - Lots of vegatation and high temperatures fueled their big size because there was a surplus of food available, their cold blodness was most likely a factor too and an evolutionary race towards size for self defense probably played a role as well.
  13. „Who is America?” a new series on Showtime by Sasha Baron Cohen. I just saw 2 episodes and I think this might just be the answer to a divided America. Hilarious!

One of the best laughs I've ever had in my life (literally falling off the couch) was watching an episode of Da Ali G Show. Interviewing some very serious FBI guy, and repeatedly saying "FB", to which the oblivious agent would correct "I" ("aye").

So brilliant. Looking forward to the new series.

The guns for kids was scary and funny in the same time. "He died doing what I love" This hit me hard

„He died doing what I love” was overkill, I can’t parse that these people took the bait without blinking an eye...all the references to Harvey Milk as his kid, Blink182 (as a drug IIRC) and a few more went without notice. Scary and hilarious at the same time, I think Sasha B Cohen hit the jackpot with this show, it can appeal to both liberals and the conservatives especially the younger generation. I’ve heard equally good opinions about this show from both sides of polarized Americans. Note that he’s making fun of the „libtards” too and its all equally funny, the dolphin relationship story and „free bleeding” are equally funny.

  14. I guess it depends. As for an outside of math answer, I’m not sure if the OP question is a valid one outside of mathematics.
  15. Now is a good time to present the evidence, lets see it. Edit: Cross posted with dimreepr.
  16. Okay, so we need to build a solar (or hydrogen for that matter since theres H2O on Mars) powered laser contraption that would melt through the mile of ice to take samples of the water underneath. I feel I need to find out more about this bipedal, venomous, glow in the dark creature.
  17. @beecee Does this kind of ignorant and hostile behaviour towards oneself become less annoying when you come of age or do the level of frustration and/or rage in some cases stay more or less the same? I’m asking for a friend.
  18. Wow, Mars looks so beautiful tonight - like a giant orange star brightest in the night sky. It’s almost as though Mars is playing some twisted joke on Americans with that orange color.

Also looking forward to: Friday's total lunar eclipse will be longest blood moon visible this century, until 2123

The red moon will pair well with Mars, which reaches opposition just before the eclipse and will also appear orange or red in colour.

Looking forward to tomorrow as well. Mars is supposed to be visible in beautiful orange color during the eclipse, they’remeven turning off the stadium illumination for the eclipse in Warsaw and are putting out telescopes for people to watch in „Centrum Nauki Kopernik”

  19. Im not an expert but how come goalies jump the opposite side of where the ball flies if they have to stay on the line untill the ball has been kicked?
  20. The goalie can move however he wants, he can (and in fact has to) jump prior to the kick to be able to defend because the goal is quite large. The kicker cannot stop while the kick is being made, this prevents the goal keeper jumping one direction and the kicker sending the ball the opposite end of the goal.
  21. The eclipse will be visible in parts of Australia, Asia, Africa, Europe and South America. It will start where I am around 20:30 and reach its peak at 21:30. It should be especially nice because Mars will be very clearly visible as a the brightest object among the stars and will be visible in red color close to the eclipsed moon. https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/lunar/2018-july-27
  22. I’m surprised that no one mentioned the crucial component and the main reason behind the middle east conflict for the last century. Since this is in pollitics I’m not going to go further with this, the people who know me on this forum know exactly what Im talking about and the ones who don’t should be able to easilly deduct. @MigL, Affirmative action is a well coined term in South Africa for example, it is part of their legislation after 1994: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Economic_Empowerment

I totally agree. This seems to be the case here.

I can imagine Chris Wallace ending up in an accident after this interview involving a white cleaners van, a few guys in branded cleaner uniforms and a secret prison in Siberia.
  25. I agree. Plus Putin is going to heal his confusion. One thing you have to give to Putin he’s a methodical, smart and capable to anticipate dictator. He ate Trump for breakfest in Helsinki and I’m sure he’s drinking champagne hearing Trump’s statement today. I sincerely have no idea how it is possible that Trump does what he does and it works for him. When I was 7 years old a friend of mine stole a toy soldier from me and his explanation was better than Trumps statement tonight. Amazing.
