  1. You're kind of right but not really plus this is in physics so I guess its irrelevant. Plus if an enginner is configuring a router while you dial it is possible you get through to Donald Trump instead of your friend. There is a non zero probability of this. From physics point of view, uncertainty seems to be present in every aspect of nature so we could define it as an intrinsic part of nature which is always present at different rates. In this case uncertainty seems to be coming only from probability. From philosophical point of view like your telephone call example (which after consideration is false) or my "tomorrow is Wednesday" example (which is more valid) my simple definition of uncertainty seems to work fine I guess. Edit: Edited the whole post.
  2. Doesn’t scatter act acording to rules as well? If we digg to the bottom of the scatter effect of a ball of blob splashing onto the floor we end up with Heisenberg’s principle which is a rule too. I’m trying to avoid involving randomness but Im not sure its possible.
  3. Sure. But this doesn’t contradict my original, simplistic definition: „Certainty is when a system acts according to a rule or a set of rules when time passes. Uncertainty is when a system does not act according to rules with time passing” I’m not going to enforce this definition as its based mainly on gut feeling but it still seems right to me. If we stick to QM then „uncertainty” is simply everything, nature in its whole...at least as far as we know up untill now. That is still not a good definition imo.
  4. Did you mean: "Everything being inherently uncertain is not saying there is no certainty" ? If yes, I don't understand, -can you use an example? QM works according to a set of rules and we'd need to break them in order to achieve certainty wouldn't we? If you mean what you wrote I'm even more lost. The second part of your post is clear to me - I'm trying to think of a valid definition of uncertainty. Since this is in physics we can skip the philosophical aspect of "tomorrow is Wednesday" which seems exactly 100% certain to me. Edit: I just read Mordred’s post above which seems atractive - „indetermined” is a much better term than „uncertain” in the context of QM. It still doesn’t explain what uncertainty is though. BTW...Im sad to see SuperPolymath loosing his screws. If you are reading this Super, I hope you find them man. Stay cool.
  5. ok I see the point but that just tells us that there is no certainty and everything is intrinsically uncertain from physics point of view. It doesn’t resolve the question what uncertainty is. Doesn’t my extremely simple definition from 4 post above still apply?
  6. What if we exclude the „noise” which is always random anyway?
  7. Certainty is when a system acts according to a rule or a set of rules when time passes. Uncertainty is when a system does not act according to rules with time passing. Isn’t it that simple?
  8. I saw that at least 3times. Hilarious.
  9. Christmas is the most unhealthy holliday I can think of (at least here) It will be a true miracle if I don’t get a heart attack from all the food I stuffed myself with tonight. I am officially dying here.

Oh, but what a way to go.

Sounds like your Christmas was good, all the best for the New Year

Managed to digest it all and survive. It’s a nasty tradition around here, you sit and eat for 3 days straight. All the best in the New Year to you too MigL.

  10. Since the whole thing is rotating and it showed in all the previous videos, that is kind of obvious isn't it.
  11. Hence I noted „noticeable torque” I’m fairly sure the torque produced by the vibration which propells this thing to spin is miniscule.
  12. Since the whole thing spins I presume it gets its rotation from a motor producing vibration in which case there's virtually no torque anywhere (at least not any noticible torque) If this thing spins due to vibration produced by that motor, its another reason that it would most likely fail to cope with my thick Bolognese sauce.
  13. Stunning. Is there anything you would like to discuss?
  14. The whole thing spins, check the video below. Even if it didn't and the case would be like you proposed, the initial torque would be very low and rotation speed would be low so the thing might as well spin without the top part moving (which is not the case ofcourse) Also...there is no way that this stirrer could cope with the thickness of my Spaghetti Bolognese sauce. Crappy product
  15. Nice Arete. tThis thread is not a dud due to your post, +1
  16. Tom Morello was the guitarist in „Rage against the Maschine” and „Audioslave”
  17. The biggest and most objective Polish news channel -TVN24 owned by US „Srcripps Network Interactive” was fined yesterday 1.5mln PLN (~420K USD) by our National Broadcasting Council which is controlled by the rulling party and also largely by a religious oligarch Father Tadeusz Rydzyk. The fine might not look so painful untill you realize that it deals only with 2 days worth of news coverage during December 2016 circus that was on last year in the Polish parliament. According to the laws they recently made, they are capable of putting a single fine on a channel 100x that amount - 40mln USD. This is getting ridiculous, some people here are pissed, some are happy but most are apathetic. The EU already put fines on the Polish government for cutting down forests against our internal law and the EU law, more fines are coming for dismantling the constitutional tribunal - can be billions if they decide to stop the flow of EU funds to Poland. It really does feel like were flushing last 28 years of freedom and economic growth down the toilet. https://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2017/12/276567.htm
  18. Just wait till the bubble bursts. There will be people jumping off buildings, you’ll see. When you look at the whole crypto market from a global point of view, its like a giant power consumption contraption which manufactures nothing. But then again so does the majority of global IT - weird times. Sory for the offtopic.
  19. Back in the day I was using my gear to process signals from SETI to look for ET’s. Now ya’ll mining crypto currency - what has the world become?
  20. Win10 update killed all my browsers. Newtork is there, pings go through, all the browsers are dead. Its a known and defined problem apparently but nothing worked including reinstalling network drivers from USB (yes I flushed DNS and did all the CMD procedures) I had to rollback to previous OS version. I don't even know which update did it, I don't have time to look now. Beware of the latest Win10 updates!

You should try going to website by IP, entering f.e.

http://127.0.0.1 (install XAMPP if you don't have Apache installed locally *) or f.e. http://151.101.113.67

      (CNN IP Address)

This way you will verify whether it's DNS issue, or TCP/IP packets are blocked (firewall?),

whether it's Internet related problem or it's even local HTTP server not working..

*) in folder C:\xampp\htdocs\ make index.php file with contents "<?php printf("OK!" ); ?>" (The simplest possible PHP script).

Google „Win10 update kills browsers” It’s an issue caused by the update, non of the resolutions worked for me (including what you wrote above) I had to roll back.

  21. Theres so much more they could offer providing that they’re so advanced that global warming and all the diseases are just a click away for them. I’m afraid that your choice scenario Elite is extremely utopian but if you put me against the wall I choose GUT if it exists and if it does’t, let me understand why. Thats my choice
  22. Actually, you havent responded to any of the questions and requests for explanation up untill now so your statement that you will seize to respond from now on doesn’t change much. If you continue your rhetoric in your future posts you will end up with the same result as in this thread - pissing people off with your ignorance of evidence and ignorance of basic logic.
  23. You failed to understand the car accident example. Lets try another one which I hope will be easier to understand and will also be more aligned with the OP; As your son is dead at this point due to your failure to put your seatbelts on resulting in your body flying around inside the car during the accident and terminally crushing your sons skull - lets use your daughter as an example this time, lets see how you approach this one; You exercise your freedom to not vaccinate your 1 year old daughter, she contracts a disease which was preventable by a vaccine and she dies. How do you live with yourself after that?
  24. I share your thoughts on this. As for their motivations, I learned a lot in the last year or so, it’s a combination of misconception and inability/lack of will to learn - all driven by blind fear. It sounds reasonable what I just wrote doesn’t it...then someone like Coveny comes along and I’m back to square one figuring out the reasons and motivations behind irrationality.
