I just got a sample of cesium today I'm storing it away from oxygen, the halogens, sulfur, phosphorus and all that, but I’m still worried I might set the house on fire. It's a .5g sample stored under argon inside a glass file and then in a fire proof safe on its own. Should I have a fire extinguisher at the ready just in case? Also, could such a small sample do much harm? Any of your thoughts would be great.

Hi A guy I bought group II elements is selling In, Zn, Mn, Ge, Cr, Bi, Sb, Ca, Mg, Ta, Na, I, B, Yb tommrow. I'm not sure how he's planning to sell them ie. in groups etc. His ebay name is kkjc2. Just thought it was worth mentioning .

I totally agree about the research thing (I store everything in a safe...which probably shouldn’t be in my bedroom ). I have spent hours reading, it’s just so hard to find a concise body of text on safety. I'm going to swallow my pride and go to my chemistry teacher and see can I scab anything off him. I have been collecting elements for the post two months and have just realized I have no MSDS for them . Could I be poisoning myself? Also, all the elements I have are in either a solid for or a gas. If I was to handle, say, a piece of manganese in a solid lump is it going to kill me? Any help would be great .
