  1. Religious belief usually is a matter of faith. Usually. Hard Science works by a continuous retesting of observed facts. Usually.
  2. I think the mass would remain the same. Also don't the newer cars have computers that optimize the down pressure at speed to minimize aerodynamic drag? Dunno.
  3. Interesting responses and thank you. Perhaps one of the many dangerous points of view is to imagine something that is simply not there. Again, the US Constitution means what it says and says what it means. Very simple language that still is understandable today. Particularly today. To imagine it meaning something else to suit ones liberal fancy is very hazardous. The Constitution is NOT a living document The 10th Amendment also is very simply stated. Presented arguments here stating that "that ship has sailed" and related "living document" points of view, (thank you) fail. You can not imply something that is not there. Mandated National Health Care is very dangerous. Such mandates must come from the States respectfully OR ... from the individual desiring such health care. If you want something, YOU pay for it. Respectfully.
  4. It is possible we are missing a very important point. There is not one word written anywhere in the United States Constitution that deals with national mandated health care. None. The Federal Government has no mandate even getting into the insurance business. The Tenth Amendment even goes further. Pretty pain language of the day which still means what it says. Any such insurance notions must come from the State level, or like said, from the individual respectfully. Either we have a Constitution or we don't. No half ways.
  5. If somebody pays for it, then it is tainted. How this would be corrected in pure research is a good question.
  6. Who knows for sure. Maybe he was trying to honor the failed axis treaties. Maybe he was trying to get Russia to declare war on Japan. How that would work I do not know. Lots of things Hitler did in WW2 make little sense today. If he had done several things differently and had communicated better with Japan we would all be speaking German today.
  7. Emergency Public Agencies will tell you there is something called the Quadruple Witching Hour. Also known by other names. Usually happens during hot muggy summer nights combined with Saturday, a full Moon and a recent welfare check. Usually restricted to the poor parts of town. A great spike in emergency activity. Yikes!
  8. Yep ... a very general question. Specific definition of terms difficult. Some very early primitive societies may have had various types of suicide, assisted or otherwise. Extremely harsh environments may have dictated harsh solutions. Early man was successful because of greatly favorable environmental conditions. Future mankind may not have things so great. Time will tell.
  9. Probably best to talk to your Medical Doctor. If none consider a good pharmacist. Too many drugs. Too many interactions. Over the counter medicating can be very dangerous. Respectfully. ex PM, RN.
  10. We are lifetime hunters. Multiple generation. Killing for food is very important. We hunt for the pot. We hunt for food. Everything we have hunted and will hunt will be eaten by us. About the only exception would be wild hog hunting in Texas USA. There the out of control wild packs/herds of wild pigs cause untold farming crop damage. So much so that the State Of Texas USA has a no limit no license kill on sight order out on wild pigs? Sad, but there you have it. Killing wild pigs is not that fun. Dangerous, and not that much fun. Black rifles. Some are machine guns. Nite vision. Thermal vision. Suppressed weapons. Hunters blinds. Anyway possible. Even helicopters. Other than pig killing, (which must be done) hunting for us is a ritual. We usually deer hunt every fall. SW Oregon, USA. About 43N, 123W. Sorta. Successful about 30% of the time. The killed deer get processed by us into family food. Very good to eat. Sometimes we hunt gray tree squirrels. Same thing. Very tasty indeed. All gets eaten. Simply killing for fun is stupid. Inhumane. We have passed up killing shots on game because we did not need the meat. Hunting is something probably not understood by some on this Excellent Science Forum. If one gets hungry enough, then one WILL kill something to eat. This is hardwired into our human brain stem. Respectfully.
  11. I did not read all the helpful answers. A couple of quick questions. On the West Coast we have vent pipes that usually extend up through the roof. They are called soil stacks. Sometimes other names. Do you occasionally get foul smelling bubbles coming up through the drain when you release a bowl full or water? Or does the water just drain out slowly no matter how many times you clean out the assessable pipes? You might have a clogged up or restricted soil stack. Having trees over the roof will do this over time with leaf debris. Also sometimes wasps will take up residence in the pipes and clog up things. Sometimes other insects will attempt to make such pipes their home. If you can, try running a plumbing snake down through the soil stacks. This will have to be done from the roof. Sometimes this fixes things. Hope this helps. "No matter how complicated they make the plumbing ... the easier it becomes to stop up the pipes!" (Scotty to Bones ... stealing the NCC 1701 Enterprise)
  12. The load or cargo must be arranged not to create areas of increased stress on the fabric of the vessel. It must be evenly loaded. The cargo must not shift. The center of balance must be within designed limits of the ships construction. If the center of gravity is too low, the ship will roll and pitch. If the center of gravity is too high, the ship might tip over. Consumables such as fuel oil usage must be considered. The static loads are easy to figure out. It is the dynamic loads like passengers moving about the ship that sometimes can create concerns. Winter North Atlantic is usually the lightest laden. Stormy seas. Other oceans and seasons usually less but not always. Typhoons and Hurricanes during seasons are exceptions. Salt water is denser: the ship rides higher. Fresh water less dense; the ship rides lower. A good Engineer always try to keep 2 steps ahead of possible conditions. Sometimes he fails.
  13. I drove fire engines so I should remember this stuff. I do not. Getting old. Non laminar flow? I think there may be a formula expressing this. The larger the pipe the less the effect. An example: large water pipes or water mains, when they reach a critical large diameter create a mind of their own and flow high rates fairly independent upon the size and pressure. Smaller pipes tend to be more non laminar. More turbulent. Ratio of surface area to volume?
  14. Excellent question. Good answers already given. Folks who can afford it probably don't start to worry about their appearance until their appearance becomes an issue. Like said, aging is very dynamic and complex. Cells just wear out. This includes skin, muscles, nerves and the rest of it that shows up visually as getting real old. Eventually. Interesting. Seems life on Earth has a death wish built into it. The very nature of our DNA and RNA replication guarantees mistakes will be made. Over time and many cell divisions, new cells, organs and systems are just not quite what they used to be. Errors are multiplied. Eventually enough that the entire body shuts down. Death. Why? Nothing is perfect. Entropy. Our environment on Earth pretty much guarantees that over time and many cell duplications, little stuff becomes big stuff. We receive many zingers from nature. Comic rays. Ultra violet solar radiation. Toxins and poisons in our food and water. Genotypes. Evolution? Over time they take the toll. I have an associate, (used too anyhow) who was researching the aging process. Hints at such has indicated, (maybe) that mother nature has pretty much guaranteed the aging process. Nobody knows how yet. Enzymes triggered by hormones or natural selection that MAY be responsible for messenger RNA errors. Dunno yet fur sures. Respectfully.
  15. Who determines the accuracy of the temperature measurements? In other words, who watches the watcher who set the gadgets? Do we have a valid continuity of temperature measurement over the last 1000 years that is exactly accurate? The answer is we don't. We can't. Such data does not exist. Which is my point. And ... Let's make this one easy. How many times in the geological past has Earths atmospheric CO2 levels been greatly elevated? Perhaps even much higher than today? Where did it all come from? A very long time ago. Repeated again and again. CO2 levels have varied greatly. Who caused it? Or rather what?
  16. Ha ha ha. Again, follow the real money. Probably many cut outs. Correlation without establishing causality ? Has anybody determined real world temps vs guessed world temps over time ago? Enough empirical scientifically valid data to be considered? Do we have enough such data over 1000 years, (or over 10,000 years) with 1000 valid inputs per year? Over 10,000 years? If not, we are just whistling Dixie. The feeble point is that we do not have anywhere near enough or exact enough data source to even approximate some data showing global warming. You should know better.
  17. I believe CO2 gets sucked up by land vegetation quite quickly. Green house plant growing studies? Consider Nitrogen? Consider water vapor? Volcanic CO2? Consider the Suns current activity? Curious how consensus can quickly change. A coming Solar minimum? Finally follow the money?
  18. Consider Quinine as available in Tonic Water, either regular or diet. Some MDs will recommend an 8 oz glass at around 6pm then another 8 oz glass at around midnight, along with whatever vitamin and mineral supplements that make you happy. Relief from the tremendous major leg cramps while sleeping is evident. Evident to the point where bedtime is no longer the dreaded nightly event. To the point where sleeping is no longer considered strictly SOLO with a closed bedroom door. Thrashing and screaming. The nightmares are also stopped. Mega Tsunamis and impossible Train Wrecks. Quinine and supplements work. Edited by HB Speelling, sintax, gramoour, punctuiations, etc..
  19. Perhaps the Moon first? Then perhaps maybe Mars?
  20. Also possible the meds will take a little bit long to act? Consider loading up sooner before your workout? Anyway you can document performance levels with and without? Sometimes also one may feel better but the reality is that focus is affected. Just saying. ex RN
  21. We are just another animal. Slightly different. Here today, gone tomorrow. Will something else "take our place"? What place? The Earth Shall Abide.
